📊 Issue with Exp Gains Whilst Levelling

Ok, so I’ve levelled up 2 characters now to 60 (my original chr got to 52 at launch but has been deleted) and I have to say I’m very puzzled over the experience gains whilst levelling.

If you level and gather/craft the addition experience that you accumulate boosts you past zones and also makes the items you craft redundant.
At lvl 60, I was wearing an item which was level 24 and I had missed several zones as a result too! I can’t help but feel that the levelling process has been made very messy and clunky. Crafting has largely felt extremely underwhelming whilst levelling. The large amount of resources that you require to level your crafting pushes you past needing that armour/weapon, so in essence, crafting isn’t crafting but a recycling process without reward.
Whilst doing the main quest I was level 55 when I earned my tier 2 Azoth Staff…. I had little joy levelling in zones that I was to high for and it offered no challenge, so no felling of achievement.
I’ve spent the last couple of days grinding materials to level my crafting and I’m shocked at how much you need to keep grinding for. I’ve got to 150 engineering on my FSS as a result of “no lifeing” for 2 days straight and remember that there is no rewarding feeling at this stage and apart from the gathering potions, I’ve recycled everything, with the exception of my own tools.

I think that gaining character exp whilst gathering/crafting needs to stop. This would then allow me to enjoy the questing more and feel like I’m challenged a little as I get to 60. It also allows for a better window of opportunity for the items I make to be useful, instead of many levels below my needs. Crafting was ok at level 10, as you can start to make meaningful build decisions (like weapon/armour weight) but after this crafting just felt like I could only make inadequate gear for my level, which I didn’t need because my character level was ridiculously high in the zones that I was questing in….

So am I missing something? I really felt like my levelling experience was a bug that made me feel like a god. The levelling made me feel like Anakin Skywalker must have felt when he killed all the younglings! :frowning:

How are you supposed to level to get the best experience of New World?

TL:DR
Crafting pushes your level past zones, as it levels your character (1-60) far to fast and as a result levels you past crafting items…. So items made until level 200 are pointless, with the exception of your bags and tools, which you only need 1 set of.

Non issue

Yes yes, this and Town Board Missions as well. You are encouraged to do Town Board missions to help the settlement, get a house, etcetera but in doing so it also really pushes your level.

All this was well known since beta.

Even though power levelling is what results in complaints about getting to endgame and “nothing” to do, AGS is unlikely to throttle XP gain and levelling.

  • There would be no end of complaints from people not being able to get to endgame fast enough.
  • Events have entry level requirements
  • PvPers would throw a tantrum that they can’t catch up with existing players. They already can’t do so quickly enough because of Expertise. Slowing down levelling to 60, even though people say it takes only a couple of days, would be completely unacceptable.
  • People being challenged by overland content? They will cry for sure. This is a game community that zergs elite zones. You literally just follow along and pick up chests.

As for levelling crafts to catch up – yes, that too was known since beta and feedback given then as well as shortly after launch on these very forums.
Probably due to people buying up botted goods or people using bots to chop trees to level and increase various crafting skills, I believe they actually nerfed those rates.
Which of course made the divide between your character level and your craft level worse. And many skills don’t have Town Board missions to help level them as well.
All this probably encourages people to buy even more RMT gold to buy even more botted goods to grind up their crafts (don’t need gathering skills if you can just buy the stuff).

Just wait till you start trying to craft endgame gear. Maybe out of 20 you will throw away 19 and that one left that has useful traits might still have one or two lousy traits. Bis crafting calculator - General Discussion / General Discussion - New World Forums

So you see how brilliant AGS is at math and the player experience.

How long have you been playing? Maybe you should try getting a refund if you didn’t waste 2 hours in the queue already.

I’ve played at launch but left when I was 52.
If they don’t throttle the exp whilst gathering then they need to drastically improve the exp for crafting items, in my opinion. Farming for so long, just to salvage the entire lot to get mats back to craft more of the same is just silly. I crafted so many bows today that I had to salvage most of the good ones as I was saturating the market…… there’s 2499 other players on the server. If they were all doing the same as I was then it’ll be silly.
I’m of the opinion that levelling was perfect before the rework but they should have boosted the crafting/gathering exp instead of the character exp. Questing when there’s a risk of death is exciting, they’ve removed the excitement as you completely out level the zone that you’re in.
If they had kept the character level experience but boosted the crafting experience instead, then both of these would have been more in unison, but instead, they’re further apart… I’ve no comprehension as to why this pasted the thought process, let alone approved by whomever is making the “decisions”. This design shows a lack of quality leadership, in my opinion. It’s clearly got a “just get boxes ticked” or “just get it done” written all over it. :frowning:
