Well, maybe someone doesnt know this exists (because i only found it today) New World Map | Resource Locations, Named Mobs, Dungeons and Lore Pages | NewWorld-Map.com this should help you with gathering and save you alot of hours.

It’s a great tool, known of it ever since I started however and I’m glad that I’ve not used it while leveling, that I went in blind and explored as I saw fit. (level 60 now, which means I’ve begun to use that tool.)
That being said, good on you for sharing the knowledge to give others a chance to use it, even if I suspect most are aware right now ^^

I wish I knew not to pump so much area points into resource gathering speeds and get property tax down in EF instead. I don’t even notice a difference in mining speeds when I got to a new zone!
Yeah shit, thats true, i’m so happy i didint started in EF so i noticed that alot of Trades happening in EF and when i came here i only missed like 1-2 tax reduces and after that i started maxing it. Because in city where i started i literally put all my points on gathering speed, and guess what, i dont see any difference too lol

Don’t worry the standing goes all the way to 300 so you will have plenty of chances to get some tax reduction cards. I would suggest getting some standing % boost cards then spam corrupted portals, town boards, and even some low level crafting in the area you want to boost. (weak health potions or tier 1 cooking is ideal for this). My standing in everfall is like 60 at the moment 
Keep in mind after 30% reduction, the benefit of a new card is very very low. So you should aim for like 8 cards tops then swap to something else useful.
