100% CPU Usage after recent Patch

Hi,

I’ve been getting 100% CPU usage after the most recent patch.

I noticed this as at some points my game would freeze completely for about 5-10 seconds… which it never used to do.

My CPU is i5-9600k

I didn’t have this problem in the earlier builds.

Hello @toXicSLi :mage:

I’m sorry about the issue you’re experiencing, that CPU usage certainly is not normal, given that your CPU has plenty of power to run the game without any issues and the freezes started with this specific build. In case you haven’t tried, please do run these two troubleshoots to see if they help:

Verify Files Integrity

In order to to that, go to your Steam Library and Right Click on the New World Title > Properties > Go to the Local Files Section > Then run the “Verify integrity of beta files” check. If this doesn’t help, please reinstall the game and check if it solves the issue.

Alternatively, there are plenty of fixes for performance issues you can try on the link Troubleshooting Frame Rate and Performance Issues - Support | Amazon Games

Please do try these troubleshoots and let me know if they worked, so i can act accordingly. Thanks for your patience!

Hi,

I have tried all steps in the performance issues and also verified the integrity of the game files and it is still using 100% of my cpu.

I went to the extreme and rebooted my windows and reinstalling drivers etc, to eliminate every possibility and it is still happening.

I limited FPS to 60 and this is the only thing that brings my CPU back from 100%, but they are short dips and raise again.

This is monitored on core temp and task manager both reporting 100% cpu usage.

Is there anything else I can try?

This never used to happen before.

I created a post awhile ago about NW using 100% of my GPU as I was worried it would burn it out. But was told it was a good sign.

This has flipped around now and my GPU is no longer using 100%, it is now my CPU that is 100%.

My physx on nvidia is set to my graphics card.

Hello Again :mage: Oh I see, sorry about the problem persisting! thanks a lot for the detailed info regarding the troubleshooting! In that case, I’ll escalate this issue ASAP so we can see what happenned with this! For that, I’ll need you to please reply to this post with your DxDiags, Game Logs, Character name and Region and server.

Instructions for generating a DXdiag: Open and run DxDiag.exe (Open and run DxDiag.exe)

Instructions for finding the in-game logs:

  1. Press Windows+R on the keyboard, type %appdata% and press enter.
  2. Open the most recent file from this folder: /AppData/local/AGS/LogBackups.
  3. Paste the contents of the file into your message, You are also free to use Pastebin, just copy and paste the link to this thread!

I hope those paste bins work, I’ve never used it before.

Thank you for looking into it.

Hi,
I’m having the exactly same issue but on the I5-8400 with 16Gb of RAM and GTX1070 - once i start the game CPU is skyrocketing to 100%

Hello! :mage: I’m back!

Regarding this issue with the CPU usage, do you have an overclocked GPU by any chance? Issues like this can emerge if the GPU has been overclocked, or its stock settings have been altered or pushed. If so, i would advice to change the settings back to stock, or even maybe lowering the settings to roughly 1600Mhz in order to see if this solves the issue. Please do let me know! Happy adventuring!

Same issue with 100% cpu usage.
Had stable 40-50 fps on my potato pc on low settings + 768p resoultion. Left game at the end of october. Returned few days ago - fps droped down to 30-35. After some research and tweaks with LODs in additional Nvidia software was able to spot bottleneck in CPU. Loaded all the time at 100%, even if GPU on 70-80%.
Also on my intel cpu feels like Turbo Boost doesn’t work, doesn’ t raise freq of CPU.
Game was reinstalled. Temp data was cleared out. No throttling or overheat.
Feels like some of the recent patches broke part of game and it is overloading kinds of CPU. Before this one, game was bottlenecked by graphic card. On screenshots below, you can see already modified by Nvidia software data. Was trying to get any playable fps.
For my case - it is absolutely unplayable now because of lack of FPS. Was able to play 200hrs with low, but stable and playable fps.
upd.: bios is fine. Was testing with default bios.
no overclocking
drivers are up to date
havent reinstalled windows yet
in other apps everything fine. Low fps, yes, but stable and not full loaded all the time. TurboBoost also works fine.

PC specs:
i5 7300hq 2.5ghz 3.5ghz with turbo boost
gtx1050 2gb
20gb ram ddr4
game on hdd
some screenshots of the game with performance data:

Hi,

sometimes i get the same 100% CPU Usage problem.
Its not to often but when, then i have this Error on Startup and from this approx 10 min.
Than it is over.
I got the feeling that NW do some optimization in the Background like COD Warzone did it with the Shadercache thing
but not sure for it

My Build is
Ryzen 5 5600x Stock with AiO Watercooling
2x8 GB DDR4 3200mhz
RTX 3070ti
Windows 10 on NVME M.2 SSD
Game on another Sata 960gb SSD

BUMP! +1

I have the same issues!

same here… drivers are all updated, my GPU performance is fine but my CPU is 100% all the time when i play this game with no other app backgrounds…

I’d just like to say that there is no change after doing the suggested fix of lowering my specs to play your game

Maybe your CPUs are not boosting anymore, maybe caused by Windows Updates/Upgrades.
Can you check if you are using the High Performance Powerplan and that your CPU ist clocking higher than Baseclock?

Thanks for your input mate.

But it is definitely not that.

Suffering from same issue on i5-8400 at home. i7-10700 at work is fine. No crazy mods or settings on either machine.

I did big research of this topic. This thing was checked one of the first. This is not a case.
My guess - turbo boost is being turned off because of high load, to save system. I use a laptop, so for power/temprature management it is being completly turned off. Just some safety intel systems.

If it’s the 100% CPU that has people concerned then setting Processor Affinity for NW to use one less core than the total will bring that utilization number down.

It doesn’t solves game problem.
I am using process lasso + nvidiaProfileInspector, but performance still unsatisfying

Hello again! :mage:

Hmm i see, sorry about that, but thanks for trying and letting me know! I’ve forwarded this information to the team and i’ll update you people when they respond. Also, thank you all for the information provided, that is very useful and will surely help the team get to the root of this issue.

Same 100% cpu usage for now, after update.
