Disclaimer: I did not start in Alpha or Beta, so anything that happened before launch is unknown to me.
Here we are 3 1/2 weeks into the game and I am enjoying it. I am taking my time, looking at the sights, killing turkeys and learning how the crafting works. I have yet to participate in an invasion or in PvP. So, with that in mind, here goes.

The quests are ok. Not great, mind you, but they are a way to further the story, whatever it is. By the mid 20’s, though, they’re extremely repetitive.
-
I wish the story were better, and that it would be more engaging to me. As it is, I go up to the NPC, click click click and barely read what they say… just grab the quest and go on. There is no reason to read it.

I absolutely love that you can’t one-shot the mobs. Even though you might 20 levels above it, that monster can still kill you if you don’t pay attention. I just wish there was more diversity. Side note: the mobs density could be tweaked a bit, but please don’t make it super-easy. I like having to think before I pull a Leroy.

I love the environmental effects of corruption. It makes the whole world ominous. I just wish it were a bit “brighter” so you can at least see the ground beneath your feet.
-
I love that almost everything is “harvestable.” My only complaint has nothing to do with the game, and everything to do with the fact that I am slow… Someday I’ll get to the hemp fields before (you know who you are.)

I have tried every weapon and unlocked at least 4 levels of each, with more on my favorites. I like that I am not restricted to any specific weapon or armor type. I don’t like the whole respec thing every time I level. It’s like there is no rhyme or reason as to what aspects get boosted upon leveling. Example: I have 40 points put into Str, and 40 points into Int. They are both at 53. The next time I level, my strength goes up 15 points, but my Int only goes to 55. The time after that (with no respec) my int leaps 20 points and my strength only ticks up 4. It’s making it so I have to do a complete respec every time I level in order to put the points where I want them. At lower levels it wasn’t a problem, but after 20 they start charging, and it starts at roughly 50 coin that many people don’t have to spare at that level. Consistency would be a nice feature.

Running across the map isn’t a big deal for me. I ran all over in GW1 and most of GW2 (until they introduced mounts.) But why in (insert diety’s name) does fast travel have to cost so much? Even if you unload everything you have and carry nothing, it’s still takes a special currency which isn’t available in huge amounts until you get higher in level and are capable of doing some things that lower level people cannot. Especially since there are quests that are halfway across the whole world and takes you twice as long to run there as it does to complete the quest. A drop in price would be nice.

I am going to complain about one specific thing that irritates me to no end, even though it’s a very minor thing. Why do we have to almost put our nose into our shed before the “E” comes up? Can’t we trigger it from a “bit” further away? It looks like some 3rd grade teacher has put us all in a corner.

Finally, the game is still very new. I know that changes will come, and I am willing to hang out a while to see what happens after the “I tried it and didn’t like it” crowd leaves. Unfortunately, the most pressing issue that I see right now is money. As people have said in other threads, there’s just not enough of it. I don’t mean that in a tacky “I’m whining because I’m broke” kind of way. I mean that the money being created will not support the systems we have in place already. There will definitely need to be a tweak in the money being created by the game (and not just moved around between players via the market and town fees,) or there needs to be a reduction in certain costs that remove money from the game until such time as more avenues to create coin become available. I am afraid that this will be the death of the game before anything else if they don’t try to fix it soon.
So, there it is. My observations of the game. They are all my sole opinion, and nobody else’s. Have fun storming the castle, folks! Cheers!
