I’m not saying they should win… I’m saying when they not only defend every green territory (7) plus field most of purple attacks, they are blocking content from the rest of the server. Some people just want to play the game and say they own a territory so they’re willing to let this well organized group play the game for them.
The other purples who wanted to declare now can’t because these guys might win the territory for them.
You lose players, especially the pvp oriented ones when they constantly have to fight this same group of guys. You’re welcome to transfer and see if you can beat them.

Not quite sure what your argument is there. Of course everything requires “skill” if you deliberately use some highly uncommon and extremely broad interpretation of the term. For example “skill” as in “not forgetting to breathe while playing, hence avoiding real life death”.
But getting legendary items in new world doesn’t require “skill” if you apply any reasonable interpretation of that word. It requires time.
Getting good results in genres where generally all players are on equal footing (racing games, FPS, RTS, Tetris, Online Poker… basically almost every single genre except mmos), that will be immediately acknowledged as skill by me.
Roflstomping an enemy that fights with toothpicks and toilet paper armor, while sitting at the helm of the death star on the other hand, kind of on the fence about that tbh.
Imagine crying about a PVP game where people use strategy to win. Maybe, I don’t know. Get good?
Someone has never played Tibia,go check that game out. Guilds own servers, you respect them and their claim of “hunting spawns” or they kill you and you lose items/levels etc. Your only option is switch servers or join another warring guild to try to overthrow them.
Just to throw in a thought:
Like in RL Towns, NW should have scaled upkeeps. As more people are living/working in a city as more upkeep costs you have. As less people live/work in a city as less upkeep costs you have.
The numbers are crunchable, they certainly have a total of:
- housing tax income = aka peopel living in city
- crafting/refining/trading income= aka people working in city
Against Costs:
- weekly upkeep costs (should be a percentage of the revenue listed above… lets say 70%) → a lot of people
Against Investments (irregular as soon as people figure out invasions)
- here the last 30% can be used for and if they do not have investments they can use it as a company to i.e. gear their people… throw a party whatever
Maybe the current prices for upgrades / upkeeps need to be recalculated or shifted with this idea (upkeep costs more than upgrade, but you cant upgrade if you have not paid upkeep i.e.)
That would avoid that central hubs are overflowing with way too much gold which allows them to manipulate the market big time (basicly 10% of the players owning 90% of the gold vs 90% of players owning 10% gold → that is already in RL and we hate it as it is in RL most of us)
That would also avoid that less frequented area companies have to pay too much out of their pockets (maybe some investments, but at least not weekly upkeep etc.)
If a town propspers they still would have an advantage over a town that does not prosper but the gap will be smaller.
Uh, I don’t want to offend anyone by saying ‘incompetence’ so let’s just say that they may not know how to change it.
Ive always felt there should never be “mercenaries” for another color.
If yellow declares on green then ONLY yellow and green would be participating in that war.
As for the same people over and over…make it randomly select (“draft”) players, break up the super coordination?
Then everyone can have a chance.
I wish territory wars were in the open world, the EVE Online player in me misses that about NW.

Easy to say, hard to impossible in reality.

- For the issue related to being able to participate in war and invasion.
If you compare to real life sport for example soccer, only the best 11 or 18 with bench and when people are injured will play. Because it’s competitive. And some people like competition, and will fight to get better and try to earn their spot.
You can’t prevent that without ruining the game for them.
It shouldn’t be leveled down to please everyone.
But I agree that not being able to participate in war ever is totally ruining the game for others.
So again like in sport, it should be possible to organize fake wars and invasions that cost nothing and consumes are given, and suffer no penalties.
So everyone can enjoy the same content and train to get better and have more experience in these events.
This way it keeps a fun side and a serious side, so everyone is happy.
- For the issue with mercenaries, I think the idea might be to allow a fourth faction, specifically for them, that is allowed to participate in everyone’s war, but is limitated in number participating.
Otherwise people should only be able to fight for their colours.
I think the idea to cap war with 30 or 40 company players is too harmful to small companies, and prevent alliances between same faction companies.
TBH, I wouldn’t mind if you couldn’t join a war unless you were IN that company! To keep things chill, allow an instant transfer to another company, but then they’re on a 7-day timer before they can join another company again. A fix this simple could solve alot of the problems.
Dear AGS, I am not one of the best on my server, this had led me to believe you messed up. Every time I fight the best players me and my team of 13 can not win. Even when we declare war on them 5 times. Please make a system for me so I can win. I do not care about being the best or getting max gear, but I want to win and have territory with my friends. Sometimes when we lose it makes me so angry. Please only let the best players fight for 1 hour per day. This way me and my friends can hide from them and only fight people weaker than us. Then most companies will only hold one territory and they will have to play other games to pvp. Game will be better when the best players have no reason to play more than 1 hour a day to defend Windsward.
You should never win an unorganized war against an organized team.
Get better at working as a team and with tactics and you will win wars.
also, find a few million gold to equip everyone with BIS, trophies, coatings, stones, etc and keep spending week after week and eventually you will almost be on a level playing field except for the 20% win chance…
The whole mechanic is broken. town ownership is a licence to print money- literally.
And of course the company can pick and choose who to have join as everyone wants to be there so they tend to have the best pvp players too.
It’s a terrible design. Not sure it can be fixed, but it sure is losing players fast as people realise it’s a two tier game.
Was going to let this convo die but man how did you get any of these out of my original post?
How do you think people will want to continue to play for territory ownership? It’s already happening on Yggdrasil one of the top west coast servers. If the settlements never change hands the game gets stale - for everyone.
You literally have the green players filling in for 60% of both yellow and purple wars. Somewhere in there you have purple and yellow players that never get to experience part of the game content, so they walk away and dont come back. Just take a look at the steam player count.
With a 80% edge to defenders, makes zero sense to push conflict for 1 of 11 settlements for hours, potentially get sniped by some small company that only contributes 10%, then have them fill the roster with the 3rd faction of players. Rinse and repeat? every week? for what? 3 months now?
Some where in there you think the game continues to be enjoyable or approachable by new players?

this is how it was in the alpha for literally years. i wrote a giant manifesto in the alpha forums about how territory control should be faction based not company based. the devs made zero changes.
they don’t want to change it. we’re barely four months in. give it a little time and it will be like this on every server.
Kind of resembles RL actually, where the richest 1% control more than the other 90% or something like that. -_-
