Analogies gone wrong.
Once again, IMHO… the real problem is AGS/Devs built the game to force you to have multiple sets for each expedition. WHY on earth is this necessary… in the long run, more money for them! This is the only game that I have played that requires this. I refuse so I don’t do mutations.
Wow has players though.
I’m actually quite happy with the price, could have been 10$ / loudout and it would have still been fine for most of us, as shown by games making billions with stuff like this… people that cannot afford this are in the minority.
The only problem with this is that we cannot buy enough … they should allow us to buy at least 20 or 30. Hopefully it changes over time with more seasons (which will probably give more free ones). If i had to guess I would assume they stopped at such a low number so people cannot complain that it costs 100$ to buy all slots… and as a result it’s just a half assed feature for those that need gearslots for all professions + pvp + pve.
My thoughts exactly
I think the minority are peps who disagree with certain monetization practices used in PC games. If peps decided not to pay for gear sets then there’s a good chance we’d get them for free. In reality, this ain’t happening.
Trophy slots. housing, and bank storage? YES! THIS would be sweet! I know a LOT of people that would pay for them. Including myself.
If you don’t like the idea, then just don’t buy them. But nobody should rag on the people who do. It doesn’t for one second interfere with YOUR game, but it makes THEIR game more fun.
Exactly, most people especially in the MMORPG genre, have jobs
and are adults and paying for their entertaiment is something normal (to a certain degree). The moment the majority disagrees with certain monetization systems the companies will change them…
BDO is a prime example of this, the game came out with horrible monetization (p 2 remove an inconvenience model), it only survived because of the absolutely gorgeous character creator and world. The model did not work so it got changed to p4convenience. It’s that simple.
I know some reddit basement dwellers will not understand the difference, but we’re voicing our opinions for those with 2 or more braincells that do.
Full agree here. Then again it is EA so it is expected. But yeah, I always tell people the same thing that it is by far the worst f2p system. Not gonna lie but that is why i prefer sub only models both from the quality of the game and you get everything.
I didn’t play tons of hours but leveling, you have to pay for certain quests to get the rewards. That is a pretty bad system imo especially since these rewards will be outleveled quickly.
Agreed.
Just because others eat sht doesnt mean you have to also.
OP points is valid, the point is.
We are creating a monster and sooner or later we will pay the price for these. The fact the playerbase will just accept a qol core feature behind a paywall will set up a dangerous precedent.
The industry is using psycology to trigger every single addictive behavior on us, the worst part is some of us are encourging this
“Take my money for this half baked solution for a problem that we should have fixed, but since tou want to pay us more to do what we were supposed to feel free!”
Imagine going to a restaurant, pay for a meal but then you have to pay extra to use a plate. You can eat without the plate after all, you shoud pay more!
Golden age of gaming is coming to an end thanks to greedy companies and blind playerbase accepting abusive monetization with poor excuses.
Lets hope the future gamers arent so naive.
Create a game that has monsters that are level 70. Launch the game with a level 60 cap. Add more monsters up to level 100. Add more monsters up to level 200. Increase the level cap to 100. Make it take 3 months to unlock 5 levels. Or, pay $5 to unlock 5 levels now.
Create a game that is sold on the ability to freely switch builds (via gear sets) and add 5 bane types (meaning you need different gear for each type of enemy) and make PVP gear require different sets again, one for each build you may like to run. Launch the game with no way to manage these gear sets. Add mutations that double down and enforce the usage of bane sets of gear, one each for any builds you have. Add a sixth bane type, increasing the number of gear sets again. Add a way to finally handle all these sets but start it out at just two sets. Make it take 3 months to unlock additional sets, once per quarter only. Or, pay $5 each to unlock those sets now. Oh and, lel… limit the maximum sets to 10.
There is functionally zero difference between these two paragraphs. No one does the former, though. The issues with this new system:
- Too few maximum sets
- If you don’t pay, you can only unlock additional sets at a rate of one per three months.
2 is ludicrous. 1 is too limiting.
What we need:
- More than 10 sets maximum
- Ways to passively or actively unlock sets via game play but scaled based on our progression. As we complete things, we get more sets (and yes, that means we would maybe need to redo a few milestones to unlock them now, but this is OK). For example, the moment you complete Tempest normal, you unlock a new slot (so we can get a corruption set). If we complete in OPR, we unlock another (PVP set).
Read the post man! $5 is not the prb, if the fact of way.
Comparing TOR’s monetization to New World doesn’t work, as TOR offers a traditional monthly subscription option that removes all restrictions to Flashpoints and raids, gives full inventory access, etc.
You can choose to pay a subscription and get everything or buy access individually to just the features you want.
New World doesn’t have a subscription option. The only option with New World is to buy the additions, because unlike TOR, the additions that AGS is nickel and diming you for are necessary features.
NW is buy to play and is running around using a free 2 play business model. You paid for the game, now pay for all these QOL features or have a bad time.
Outright poor game design in the first place then. And please don’t be so naïve, many, many, things are preplanned, esp when it comes to marketing something for the future.
This is very thoughtful and intelligent. Thank you for using some actual high level thinking to have a good discussion. It’s amazing just how many of these kids are lazy thinkers and trolls. (I’m looking at you @JustPlease, SMH)
And look at Blizzard of late. I rest my case. Lets not let AGS think that is the way to threat their players.
Okay, please explain. If you’re gonna take the time to state this, please provide your argument and defend your case with actual thought and intelligence. When speaking in terms of commerce, please tell me how my analogies are wrong. I really want to know. If you are gonna standup in the virtual room, say more than one incomplete sentence.
Yep…once upon a time it was…“Hey that’s cool horse armor, it’s just $2.00”. Look where that lead us.
Very nice idea actually ![]()
Could unlock extra gear slots if we:
Level all professions to 200+.
Complete 25 M10 with a score of over 75k.
Win 250 OPRs.
Win 1000 Areans.
Capture 1000 Control Points.
Finish all the Quests in the Game.
Find all collectibles.
Would give people something to work towards and engage in activities.
Hey ceegore, I was speaking of justplease’s analogy. Was having hard time following its meaning and relation to thread.
