Today in the Dev Blog you posted that the 590 expertise cap "makes getting those 600 rolls more special and valuable."
But here is the thing. It doesn’t. Nine times out of ten that 600 item is either useless or is a gathering luck item that sells for less than a trophy material.
I want to play the game not the lottery. Because that’s all you are effectively running here.
Get 600 drop
That drop is legendary
That drop doesn’t have Dex/Focus or some other useless stat block (Why do I seem to ALWAYS get Dex/Focus… I swear it’s weighted wrong in the probability table)
That drop has at least 1 useful perk roll, and not say 30 str and fortifying sacred ground or one of the 3 useless perks on a weapon no one uses
Or If I run Lazarus, have max expertise, and get the BOP life staff. It’s great running 30 Lazarus and getting 3 staff and have the highest be 597. That life staff should be max gear score. You aren’t making the 600 version more sweet.
The only way to win is with money. There is no value in actually farming for gear. You farm (or bot, buy, dupe, exploit) money in the most efficient ways. Then buy BIS items from others who have hit the lottery at 100k+ an item.
I have never gotten a ‘perfect’ or really even close to perfect drop or crafted item for any weapon/role (and I’m a 200 all tradeskill omni-crafter) in 800 hours of play with the exception of the one lucky role on the BIS spear in Genesis being GS 600. I’m just not very lucky I guess. But I could drain my funds and buy 2 perfect items for a spear off the Trade House right this second for 320k gold. That sends the wrong message. And it feels shitty.
Every 600 healer armor piece I am wearing is purchased. My staff is a 597 staff I crafted myself using Lazarus staff to guarantee Focus/Blessed and go for refreshing move.
I don’t know how a player doing even 1-2 hours a night is reasonably going to be able to gear out one let alone multiple roles.
Had 600 gs on armor for a minute now, never seen 1 legendary drop in that time since I’ve hit 600gs
Got a couple of green 600gs items . Hopefully this new patch changes that anything would be better than rolling twice once to hope GS hits 600, once to hope it rolls legendary.
Farming = coing, coin = best items. This is an MMO, not a single-player game. Learn to use the trading post. 600 gs items have a very low chance of drop, which means only 1 out of 1000 players get it from world drops. Better chance to get it is from expeditions.
If 600 gs items would drop as you’re suggesting, trading post would be filled with 600gs items selling for 5 coin.
It’s the same for polished marble chest. Only 1 in 5000 players get it. Never got one myself, but i own 7 of them because I use trading post. Orichalcum storage chest recipe drops once a month, and you can sell it for 100k coin if you’re the lucky player to get it, out of 10.000 players. You shouldn’t be able to get everything on your own, because that would defeat the idea of an MMO.
We agree then that coin = best items. That’s my whole premise. I said in my post that I’ve extensively utilized the trading post for my gear.
I could give you my New World life story, but it boils down to this. My company of 20-30 core friends/players and 50-70 active players participated in all aspects of the game. We held three territories, maxed out watermarks, and completed all content in the game. Personally I have 200 in all tradeskills/refining/gathering, three houses filled with Trophies, 593 gear score Void/Life set, 100k coin, and about 150k more in liquid assets.
Territories became impossible to maintain for a number of reasons. Invasions have always been bad. Outpost rush is laughably bad PvP.
We wouldn’t have minded doing cathartic content like Arenas, Genesis/Lazarus, Portals, or Elite 66+ areas. But that content gives no reasonable chance at upgrades. Farm content shouldn’t be this bad/useless.
AGS doesn’t need to retain me specifically as a player, but they should care that players like me who would be a dedicated player for years are leaving after only a few months. But I imagine after the ‘log in and get free item’ stuff is done, we’ll see a drop under 50k peak unless mutations shock the system.
There is a lot they could’ve done to stem the bleeding. This thread is pretty old at this point, but I’m pretty sure my point was that Arena/Genesis/Lazarus could easily be more approachable and that the BoP items could be more readily obtainable.
I’m not even saying the gear should drop like candy. I’m only saying that a dedicated 800+ hour player that grinds the content for a month should reasonably expect to have a legendary version of most named items.
You can tell me ‘then everyone would have it’. But that means you’re assuming only whales are going to be playing this game when the dust settles. Because if the 800+ hour player is only gearing by the blessing of being able to farm absurd coin; every other player is up shits creek without a paddle.
There’s also a very good chance to get 600 legendaries from gypsum casts. If your expertise is 590, you’ll be full of them in no time.
I’m currently leveling my expertise on life staf. I plan to get a legendary weapon from gypsum casts once i’m 590 expertise and a perfect roll withing 2 weeks.
Timeless shards have already been added to nerf the RNG based loot.
In alpha GS 600’s ranged from 100g to 1000-2000g based off how good the load was. However crafters in alpha with perfect trophies could craft 660’s which definitely didn’t go for something as small as 1000-2000g. 600 gs drops were fairly common if you had your luck stat up nicely with 3 houses and your watermark was maxed. IMO I wish they would put 600 legendaries on the same drop rate as before.
Used to be alot more purple with maybe an orange on a named. Where-as to me now it seems like waves of greens and blues with the occasional purple and you won the lottery if you see an orange but it’s probably a crap load anyways
dont play the game free to play mode bro, just own windsward everfall, and you will play the game as pay to win players. this is a problem that is simply can be solved with golds.
I personally believe if a game opts for BiS gear providing considerable advantages in pvp, then such gear should indeed be extremely hard to obtain. Most games I know gate such gear behind either hardcore raiding or extreme grinds for mats for crafting, however, I also believe such gear should be bind on pickup/only tradeable within the raid group/bind on craft.
By not having it bind as mentioned above, it opens the door for p2w, encourages botting and shady dealings. If I look at GW2, legendaries did not really give you that much of a combat boost, you can pvp in GW2 wvw quite fine in exotic gear, and there are many build options, incorporating easy to obtain exotics as well as harder to obtain exotics. There is something on offer for everyone, without this creating an ‘op gear elite’, dominating, which in turn encourages pvp and makes entry a lot easier, for everyone to enjoy wvw.
