So been playing the game now since Closed Beta into Open Beta and into launch. I don’t generally write feedback or post in forums but figured I’m make an exception.
I left WoW like so many and was left with an MMO void to fill, New World wasn’t really on my radar but got access to Closed Beta and decided to try it. It was honestly a fun time, people were using proximity voice everyone was having fun with the game and many companies were formed and friends met. There were crazy bugs and the leveling was a bit ridiculous with Town Boards but no one seemed to care.
Open Beta was full of people just wanting to try a new shiny game for a weekend and it was at this point where the feeling of the players started to change a little. The social aspect wasn’t where it was during Closed Beta.
During launch the game broke so many players, the queues were absolutely insane and the opening of new servers moved many people away from their companies and friends. We scrambled to get enough people online to participate in wars and fight exploits more than players.
I also received one “offensive name” change report, then later that day another report on the same thing which was followed by a temp ban of 3 days, tried contesting it by sending screenshots of another company saying this is what they will be doing to me because I was Gov of a company scheduled for war, never received any reply from AGS even with all the proof sent. 3 days later finally got back into the game and about an hour after said company saw I was back online you guessed it I was banned again for 3 days. After the 3 name change decided to move servers and try to enjoy the game having moved servers and left my own company due to autobanning.
Ironically after being able to finally level without bans I see a quest with my old username and then shortly after a craftable item with my banned username as well. Proof that it was clearly not offensive or AGS would surely rename the quest and item.
After hitting 60 finally as a PvP healer I did the only thing there was to do which was Outpost Rush. Having spent most of my time in OPR I can honestly say it broke me, the agro on life staff with brutes are absolutely stupid, the fact that u join a “PvP” scenario only to be chased but wolves and meatballed for minutes really didn’t give me a sense of PvP yet nothing changed other than a brute ability as a concept. I don’t think Outpost Rush is bad but don’t call it PvP call it PvX.
Imagine going to do an expedition only to find out after the last boss there was another team u now have to fight or Arena and only one person will get rewards after the game forces u to all duel each other. The PvE player will be outraged and it would be changed hours after being implemented yet this is what we PvP players had to endure. The chest from OPR was pretty much the worst way of trying to level what was then called watermark (expertise) so you are forced to go do more PvE of chest runs.
The only true PvP was wars and that was for the most part a slide show of who could place the most AoE to lag out the other team or more comically clitch into the defending fort.
Having played a healer in WoW for years I was excited to try a new way of healing only to very quickly realize this was not the way. There are 55 combinations of DPS specs and only 1 healing weapon, you could argue for Void Gaunlet being a healing weapon bit it sure would never be a main healing weapon in its current state. There are basically 2 builds to run as a healer AoE and AoE plus Lights Embrace your performance is based on how long your AoE was up before being replaced by someone else’s. The targeted healing relies on you only healing your group and scroll healing to the target or disabling group healing and hoping the aim hits the right person in a blob of 10 people (mostly it will heal the closest person to you regardless of their HP)
There is also no way to balance a team for anything since there isn’t a role check so most OPR games are decided before the “gates” even open, the same gates that allow the enemy team to spawn camp harder than prior to the gate coz 5 seconds of immunity would be too difficult to implement and 32/40 does not mean 16vs16 so u might join a game with 3 x 5 premade + others and your group without any premade resulting in something wonderful like 12 vs 20. Again imagine the outrage of queueing for an expedition with 5 players and the game rolling a dice to see how many ppl gain access to the expedition.
So after having such good hope for the game and really trying my best to enjoy aspects of the game, it seems like the studio just at this current time has no grasp of what is going on and instead bring out mutations and expertise (this was an improvement but as a PvP player can only get 1 cast a day) vs actual PvP content or rewarding PvP. PvP players will now be forced to go do mutation to get gear score for PvP and I’m just not willing to be forced into it.
I hope that the studio gets some direction and treats the PvP community equally at some point regarding rewards and actual PvP content that doesn’t involve fighting open-world bosses while trying to dodge 12 CC abilities and 6 muskets sniping at you.
