So after going through all possible weapons that are not rapier as its gotten boring after the first 500 hours paired with musket. ( I currently just hit 1k play hours so im as casual as it gets)
I tested hatchet - its a nieche weapon deals good damage - no CC, helps escaping from rangeds with immortality to hide behind objects
Now the one I thought this is it - Spear
The good thing on spear is that you could duel people with it when close combat but the issue is as you run musket ur pretty much forced into 300 Dex and 150 int which doesnt make you the worlds best dueller ever. The biggest issue though with the spear u had no hope of escaping when required.
Another issue with spear I had the stun and knockdowns are too short to lay down a trap.
NOW THE NEW WEAPON - my new found weapon and really enjoying that shit right now - SWORD AND SHIELD (round) + MUSKET ( Medium armor)
A big warning - With this build you will never ever be able to defeat tanks. They regenerate stamina faster than you reload your musket cuz fun game.
Its a very heavy musket build ( you need to get your headshots down) so those who rely on rapier damage shouldnt like it too much but lets compare why SnS is so great with Musket
Its got a dash escape like rapier - Its on a 17 second cooldown ( which is less than the new nerfed rapier fleche CD) and on hit staggers the target
I use it usualy for escape only if required to chase down healers or something
SHIELD BASH - this is the holy grail of why this build works - to set up traps after a stun you need at least a 2+ seconds stun which is pretty much only rapier ripposte and this baby.
If you Leap, Shieldbash trap into shooterstance and aim for the headshots with a perfect musket - enchanted and vorpal god your damage is awesome with rend from the trap on the target. ň
This skill allows you to use traps aggresively instead of only waiting for your riposte to proc and hit the target. You can leap bash and trap
Instead of dodging skillshots like rapiers Evade you can simply block them.
For third skill I got backstab with the passive to get 25% of my cooldowns reduced on hit. Its got grit it staggers it reset my CDs when chased by melee its great
This is my Musket build for this specific one. In the right tree you can see I sacrifice 5% empower damage for 2 traps as people usually if they survive the first one want to Mongo you and they step in the second one as well and thats certain death.
Yep, I run this build sometimes when dueling but it’s very situational. Also, you lose 15 attribute points when you sheath your shield, which means you can’t ever have optimal attribute distribution for damage.
New World released September 28th, 2021. It is currently February 20th, 2022. The game has been out for just shy of 5 months. Playing for 1000 hours over a 5 month period is 200 hours per month, or 50 hours per week, or 7.14 hours per day.
Now let’s look back at your claim:
I’m not a math expert but I think you may have an issue with word definitions, or you’re a time traveler from literally two years in the future, at which point having played the game for 1000 hours could be achieved by an actually casual player.
As for your actual post, the sword n’ shield would be a great musket sidearm if not for the fact that you’re going to be in the medium armor class with the passive resistances of a light user without your shield actually out. I’ve tried it before with various shields (and therefor weights) and unless you’re going to go full-blown tank musket where you can wear all heavy (and therefor have the actual defenses of the armor class you’re in) it’s just not worth it, and the issue with that is that you’ll have no ability to escape melee and no ability to fight them with this build. Great for dueling bows or other muskets but pretty trash for general gameplay. Might be worth using on defense in wars if your server has a big musket meta for some reason.
If they removed the weight of shields so you could be a light musket with sword n’ shield that’d change the situation entirely and in that case I’d probably use sword n’ shield over rapier.
Calling it casual to play a thousand hours in five months normalizes degenerate, addictive behavior within our community and is both irresponsible and toxic in the true definition of the word.
What are you on about? I quoted his words from his actual OP here. I then made a separate post addressing the actual thrust of the post, but I’m not going to just let him call his behavior casual and ignore it.
Alright guess im not casual than thanks for the math
I agree on the passive ressistances yes but as I got a pretty good endgame gear with 2 pieces having musket skills with resilient and 3 pieces with resilient and elemental aversion the rest is just onyx gemstones. I can take a few hits even with 7k hp.
I agree on the point with the shield though especially on the attributes.
I disagree on the cant escape melee. This build is an absolute blast at doing so.
If you shieldbash them you can run if required
if you dont have bash than you autoattack them 3 times to apply the sword slow and leap away hide behind a object drop a trap as you have 2 of them and they will walk in.
If you dont have the above mentioned with backstab I get 25% cd reduction when I hit them so one of the 2 above will come up
And as for Wars I make the calls for our dex troupe responsible for canons warhorns and afterwards healers. We are probably the biggest damage troup so people try to pick us up and with the shield I tried it today in a war for reekwater I can cc them from my mates and I can set up healers for kills I bash trap them and call my team to open fire ( luckily our dex squad is 5 guildies so our synch is perfect) As you can see we are hanging in there as green x)
But yes agreed rapier is still meta but I think SnS is a great Off-meta pick that works very well
I absolutely believe it’s the most viable alternative to rapier, with great axe also being an interesting possibility as well. I like the ability to actively block attacks in a meaningful way and all of the abilities are better at supporting the musket than the rapier’s abilities. I think if the weight issue were resolved it would basically come down to if you wanted to fully go in on being a musket player vs. being a musket and rapier player with the ability to deal high damage in melee range (vs. unsupported SnS damage).
