There seem to be 2 main arguments to this scaling problem.
A) Players should not be able to hit 60 and immediately buy best in slot gear. This devalues those who actually put time into their character and potentially encourages gold buying.
B) Lots of players don’t want to deal with grinding watermark. If someone wants to focus on grinding their crafting up to 200 and relying on RNG to get their 600gs items, they should be able to.
Whether you grind watermark or grind crafting skills, you’re still grinding. Both should be rewarded.
Solution:
Leave everything exactly as proposed with one exception. Gear that you have crafted yourself is exempt from this expertise scaling.
Let’s say I craft a 600gs spear, but my watermark is 500. If I equip the spear, it stays at 600 because I’m the one who crafted it. If I trade it to timmy who also has a 500 watermark, it scales down to 500 because he is not the person who crafted the spear.
This probably won’t please everyone but I think it’s a step in the right direction
