Okay this may seem like a take on the selfie, but instead i would like a photography skill line with a scrap book where you can go around and make advertisements for all the new world’s GREAT LOOKING zones.
One of the biggest strengths new world has is it’s astounding breath taking scenery so why not give players an incentive to enjoy that aspect of the game a bit more while they are running around.
This addition to the game would feature some major things
1. Photography skill line:
Go around and take pictures of the zone, owning a camera would enable you to enter a first person perspective for picture taking. As you level up, you can steady the camera differently, make full use of the equipped camera’s zoom function, unlock special effects when you scrap book, and use cameras with a special filter. You can sell your photos to players as paintings for their house by trading directly to them but not post them on the TP because idk how you’d be able to generate a proper preview of an image from the TP but if you could manage to show what the picture was of, i don’t see a reason why not.
2. A camera
Crafted by an engineer, with different levels of zoom / pixelation based on the watermark of your camera / photography skill.
These could be customized with lenses crafted from different gems that have special effects.
There should also be a craftable camera stand with a delay timer / remote activation so players can get in on their own company group photos.
3. A scrap book / frames
The Scrap Book:
A place to put your photos and store your in game memories, you should be able to customize the way your scrap book’s covers looks to some extent, what kind of leather binds the book, the color of paper used for the pages ect. You should be able to crop / edit photos here so you can fit them on the page in a variety of different ways. Some editing should be unlocked as you level the photography line.
Frames: Different styles of wooden frames made by engineers as house furnishing that can store a players photos from their scrap book.
4. The Public Gallery
Each major city should have a gallery building where players can come to submit their best shots and see if they have the skill required to get their photos put on display at the gallery. It should cost x amount of gold to submit a photo and if your photo gets displayed you should get x amount of (gold or cosplay currency resource used to buy cosmetics) / y amount of time it’s on display
The community could use something to pull us together, there are lots of controversial statements floating around and i think this is something lots of people could get behind.
I am not a game developer but i think the idea holds possibilities to give players something to do with a simple tool of first person screen shotting.
It may seem silly and dumb but i think it would go really well especially since i can’t take any first person screen shots as it stands and that makes me really really sad.
ultimately i want a way to take screen shots in first person how far you want to take that is up to you as the DEVS but i think with a creative team you could have a lot of fun and the community could stand to benefit from something that brings them together.
something i think everyone agrees on is that the graphics of new world are one of it’s best features so again, make use of that strength please.
**It’s an interesting idea, but it makes the simple task of going into photo mode tedious. When I want to capture a certain vista or a moment, I just want to press “Esc” and click “Photo mode” without having to think about lenses, if my trade skill is high enough, or if my camera is shaky.
Locking other camera features like filters and image stability behind a grindwall and the HWM system is also an unattractive prospect. Players wouldn’t buy other people’s “paintings” because they can just replicate it themselves using their own camera. A camera also doesn’t fit with the timeline where New World is set - a time where maps and portraits are still drawn and not captured.
The first-person selfie issue can be solved by implementing a free-floating camera option in the Photo Mode, similar to how No Man’s Sky implements its photo mode system.**
