I can see a few posts around improving how to categorise gear, I want to take this suggestion further and suggest a mechanism for switching saved gear/attribute/weapon spec configurations. The problem this is trying to solve is having a configuration we prefer for PvE, another for PvP, another when farming and another when crafting. Some players may have more. Tracking the different gear and respec weapons for each config takes too much time and therefore enjoyment away from the game.
My suggested approach
- Players can have equipment build slots which save the equiped gear and weapon specs
- As you gain more levels you could gain more equipment build slots, so start with one and have 4 by the time you get to level 60
- To define a build you effectively save the current config you have into one of the slots
- To switch to a different build you have to be at a settlement/output or your tent, this is not something you can do mid-battle.
- If the change requires azoth to complete, a prompt to confirm would make sense
There are some obvious challenges with this feature
-
What happens if your some of your gear is not here? You aren’t carrying all of it or its not at this settlement or you have sold/salvaged some items? I think it should provide a warning, if you accept it swaps in what you do have and highlights those items you do not have, leaving the current equiped items in those slots.

What happens if you want to change a build? A player should be able to overwrite a build, maybe a small azoth cost like respecing, so equip with the build that is closest, change what items you want to change and then save again
-
What about attributes? Could you also save these with the build? Maybe. Before you get to level 60 these are changing with each level, so it doesn’t make sense to save them. Maybe after level 60 when you are more likely to experiment with different weapon configs?
Some other nice-to-have features
- Ability to link a build to a chat and share your entire config
- Ability to preview a build before you switch
- Allow players to name their builds
