“Deadweight.”
And THERE IT IS! Just right on queue! How wonderful!
Just when I’m getting comfortable with my keyboard combinations and did the quests to qualify for going into Amrine for the first time…and I have to hear this garbage word.
Do you have ANY idea how grosssly insulting and demeaning that word is? I want to play this game and get better, and mostly have fun when I do challenging things like dungeons with other players. What I absolutely do NOT want my MMO to be is that Olympic, elitist spreadsheet generator where we find out which players aren’t doing optimal damage in a dungeon, so we tell that guy to go home and forget about playing with the “real players.”
Oh my god I can’t tell you how infuriating that word is. This is a fantasy GAME. Meant to bring people together to enjoy immersive fantasy experiences. This number crunching garbage was one of the things that led me to quit WoW. I couldn’t stand some of the people who led instances and raids. You want to do competitive number crunching, work on Wall Street or be an accountant.
And this is what I’m already dreading asking to go on the Amrine expedition. Nobody waiting for everybody, everybody rushing, no time to explain anything or ask any questions. Everybody assumes you went through the dungeon a hundred times like they did, so nobody waits for anybody.
Look, I get it if that’s your thing to grind the numbers and grind the stats. I get it if the numbers give you a thrill and you thrive on the optimal of the optimal of the optimal build. Yipee.
But can you also understand how much many players can’t stand it and can’t stand the attitude behind it?
I have a character that is almost level 30, and I’ve watched several tutorial videos on Youtube to prepare for Amrine, so I know what to expect from the boss and enemies, etc. and also things to look out for as far as traps and places you can fall, etc. I’m studying the dungeon thoroughly so I don’t go in blind and ruin it for aother players. My gear score is 330 and I’ve gotten to a point where I can pretty confidently use the sword and shield, along with dodging and jumping without having to look down at the keys, with the keybindings I set up. But this stuff doesn’t come naturally to me, I have to work at not letting anxiety make me freeze up during a dungeon.
But I need to find a group within my own company or faction that are MATURE but also want to have FUN, that are willing to do it for the sake everybody involved and for everybody to have fun. And won’t have a meltdown if somebody screws up and we fail in our attempt to beat the dungeon.
The idea that you want to look at a chart and determine who did the least DPS, call them "deadweight’…and then what?
Where is all of this supposed to lead to? Is it not enough to accomplish finishing a dungeon and then talk about the cool stuff you saw when you adventured through it?
All due respect, but this whole “pro” gaming thing I think is total nonsense. I mean hey, it’s what you enjoy I’m not saying you don’t have a right to enjoy it.
But you have to realize that for players like me, it makes me want to not even do a dungeon in New World. Or at least certainly not with a player like you.
So let me go calm down from my anxiety attack that you caused and refocus on finding cool people to run the dungeon with.
