After 1.1.1 the game is trying to fry my GPU

Hey there,

tried to play today, got multiple freezes (at least 40s) and 2 crashes.

MSI Afterburner showed 100% GPU and 95+C before the last crash, so I assume it is the infamous “AGS kills it own fantastic game and takes your hardware down along the way”-bug.

Updated the cards driver, reset settings to standard (from underclocking and max fan speed)
between the two crashes.

Ingame settings are custom: no shadows, no fancy shit, only textures and objects are at high, rest is low.

Todays logs:

Log 04122021 21:26 - Pastebin.com ← first crash
Log 04122021 2139 - Pastebin.com ← second crash

Can’t upload the dmp-file because it is not allowed.

Going to stay away fro the game until I have a definitive response that it is safe for my PC.

Hope to get some insight.

kind regards

Hi @wanderhenker,

Welcome to the New World Forum Adventure! :space_invader:

I’m sorry for the situation with the crash and i would like to know what Troubleshooting have you tried? I see you updated the GPU drivers.

Just for in case, i can submit a ticket on your behalf and i’ll request for information about the situation.

I’ll wait for your reply!

Hi skoal,

as I don’t have any clue about computers etc. I only verified the game files via steam, updated the drivers and my wife reset MSI Afterburner as this could have been be a possible vector (she is more into tech stuff).

Changing options ingame is not possible, because I won’t touch the game until I have a solution.

It would be super nice, if you would open a ticket for me  :grinning:

kind regards

Awesome @wanderhenker!

So i’ll send you a PM to let you the additional info i will need to complete the Ticket.

Morning ladies and @skoal,

was curious and just tried to start NW and the GPU already went to 100% workload and ~82°C even before the intro starts. ALT+F4’ed and now hoping for an insight, as I don’t have this problem at any other game I played during the NW-drought.

kind regards

Every modern game tries to fry your GPU, that’s what the cooling is for

On a serious note, could you do a stress test with your GPU to see how the cooling of your system handles it? I would recommend a program like furmark for this. It should show you if it is really only game specific or if their is a more serious issue with your card.

I believe the maximum temperature for your GTX 1660 SUPER is set to 93 degrees Celsius before throtteling, so you should set that as target not to damage your card in excessive tests.

Something that may help a little is to turn Steam Overlay off.

I had overheating problems on my computer, and when I turned this off it cooled down a bit…which helped a lot… The game seemed to run a little smoother, or it was just my imagination.

Every little bit helps.

Hey,
I (well, my wife actually :D) tested it with furmark and the superposition from unigine.
Both returned no issue with the card itself. The tests ran for 2h each, so the card isn’t an issue.

Thanks for the advice, but it didn’t help me, unfortunately.
It reduced the load before the intro videos to 91%-93% but as soon as I hit the start screen, it went to 100% and the °C skyrocketed.

Don’t tell her that!

is your gfx by any chance from EVGA?

If I run my Stamina completely out… When the bar fully refills, the screen twitches abit. Sometimes it causes a crash. Can someone reach out to see if it is something off with the coding for it?

No, it is a Palit GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER GAMING Pro.

100% gpu usage is fine

85 degrees is also fine, its certainly hot but not quite dangerous yet

95 degrees is getting scary.

The game was absolutely damaging some hardware regardless of what people think (they are absolutely wrong)

16xx was never really one of the cards that were affected tho.
It’s a pretty old card, could just be on its last stand tbh.

The issue NW was causing was super high power draw.
Like cards limited to 105% pulling 130% ect.
If your card isn’t doing that it’s not the ‘old’ issue

I worry when my computer components reach 60 degrees… lol

I’m just a fussy pot… I don’t want my computer to fry, so I panic before I need to panic.
lol lol lol

Hi @Omerta,

high degrees are fine, starting to get worried at 90C+ but the card shutting itself down is a problem.
85
C+ is the last temperature I saw before the game crashed.

Furmark got the card to 78*C in 2h. But that’s because I built the PC for cooling, not performance.

I don’t think it is an age-related issue, as I bought the parts in Juli 2020 and my wife built the PC in Augst 2020 (All parts still under warranty).

I’ll tell my wife to check the power draw of the card when she gets home next weekend, maybe that is a vector

Hey,

quick update. A friend of mine told me to turn off MSI Afterburner and now it seems to work.
Workload is at 95-100% but temperature is at a stable 58-60*C.
Don’t know if the Afterburner was the problem or if the mini-update of New World fixed it for me.

My 2070 SUPER, even slightly overclocked, never goes over 60°C when playing NW.

That MSI Afterburner thing is probably bugged or you had an old version, and your card was probably overclocked beyond it’s acceptable limits.

hey

my last tests were 2h with MSI Afterburner off and 2h with it on.
There was no real difference in workload or temperature.
Both times WL was 93-99% and temperature 56-60C.

So, the MSI Afterburner doesn’t seem to have been the culprit, but the mini-update today did something to fix my problem.
