After over 5 dozen hours of my life spent on crafting, I am no longer interested

When you level up your crafting skills in this game, it causes you to craft lower level items with random level requirements. Last night I used up about 100 steel trying to make steel tools for my buddy who hasn’t had much time to play and is only lvl 21. The first set I made I pumped azoth in to so they would be good, but the tools came out with lvl requirements at 20, 21, 28, and 29… every other steel tool I made back when I was level 25 were between 20 and 24… so I thought maybe I made them too good, and I made more without azoth and with lowest grade materials I could. One craft resulted in a common grey steel axe with 248 gather speed and a level requirement of 31! 31! That item is literally worthless. The only thing I can do with it is salvage it. Nobody will buy that. Not when they can get a blue star metal axe 5 levels later that has 50% more gather speed and 3 perks. And I used the rest of my steel just crafting axes and the lowest level requirement I got on it was 25. I felt like I was trying to win the rng lottery to get a crappier item. That is completely backwards.

I have spent a lot of time playing this game. I have taken a lot of my gathering skills up past 150, and a few of my crafting skills up to 100 or 125.

The process was very long, I have about 125 hours played at this point and 80% of that or so was just gathering materials to spam crafts to level up.

It all went fine, even if it took me a very long time. I had a ton of fun crafting tools and gear and potions and food for all my friends. I have become like the craft bot of my small group. I could always equip one of my buddies with their new gear at each breakthrough. 20 ish for steel tools and rugged bags, 40 ish for statmetal tools and layered bags.

I reached the engineering and armoring levels to make those tools just as I reached those levels.

But now it feels like all my grinding and work and effort is wasted. I can’t craft tools for my lower friends, and I can’t craft lower tier items to make money on the market because the level requirements are jacked up and nobody wants a pick they can’t equip until 12 levels after some other pick that a lvl 25 crafted at earliest equippable level because his skill is lower.

You need to fix this. It completely removes the value of having a high crafting skill, something that takes MUCH more effort than it does in other similar games. It literally just feels like a hamster wheel. There’s no payoff, only a giant fat disappointment.

So maybe include the ability to cap level requirement on an item, or provide a way to narrow the giant range of gear score you can have as a result. Maybe an item or material can be added to make the item a certain level after you raise your skill past that tier of item.

I don’t know the solution. I don’t design games, I just play them too much. But this is a dealbreaker. I was going strong and sticking through the dozens of other issues but this one just drained all of my will to play. It doesn’t feel good.

Agreed, im a bit over-levelled for the gear i still have on now, prob 10levels or so… I looked at trade posts for days with no joy, well, i bought a weapon i will skill up… nothing main… it was all junk with rubbish stats or perks… so my crafting is 100-150 on most so i decided to spend ‘a day or 2’ gathering & working on my own gear…
that didnt work either… i can make stuff 10levels below, maybe close if i use jwlry/armor enhancements… but then we in the hands of RNG devils, bcos there is no rng god…
i can use 1 of the 100’s of perks, but usually yo;d want to guarantee stats so perks would be random with 45 azoth… 90 or 180 of u make multiple to try to get an ideal piece…
Why cant we use all 3 perks instead of azoth rng ? i have 100’s sat in cargo of which i can only use 1 per item and pray the other 2 perks i get are decent & usable for my weapons…
its too much of a grind as trophies and housing perks come later, but then when i might be able to make it… i’ll be 60 prob looking for other gear that drops ‘easier’… . cant sell much as not many lower levels about anymore… what will happen next month ? nothing to sell, cant make my own… i love crafting in games but this is too much with almost zero reward…

The Tradeskill leveling is unreal. There needs to slightly more xp for armor and weapon crafting. Idc about the other skills maybe engineering. They need to be leveled up faster than our main refining and gathering skills.

Really like the idea of being ableto level cap an item you craft. it sucks ryingto make a low level weapon for a friend and just getting stuff that is 5 lvls or more above.

The odds are far better if you can guarantee the perk with a craft mod. Unless you were trying to stack something like refreshing, then having one or two pieces not the exact right stats doesn’t affect you that much in the end.
Min/maxxing yes, but that stuff needs to be hard to get.

That said, yeah on the higher level armour it is statistically almost impossible to get something that syncs so I’m certainly not against making that a little easier. Especially on the higher level gear.

I don’t think you’re supposed to be able to make stuff that you can’t wear.
I’ve hit that point because I can’t progress in the main quest line (waiting for someone else to catch up), but yeah. There’s plenty of time to craft it. Plus, the mountain of work that goes in to maxxing out a crafting skill is just that much more rewarding when you finally get there. Especially if you’re one of the few that stick it out until the end.
One of the unfortunate things about MMOs is that they do favour the unemployed. It’s a difficult balance, by their nature they need to take a long time to complete and keep players interested as long as possible because otherwise people get bored and creating new content takes time.

I’ve just hit 150 in engineering, almost at that level with my other crafts, too. By no means am I the fastest, but I am one of 2 people in my company that can craft Ori tools. Feels good, I worked hard to grind that shit. If I capped it after 20 hours of effort, so would everyone else. And then, what’s the point? Get someone else to craft the item for you for a small fee.

It sucks, that you have to craft hundreds of thausands of low level items just to throw them away in order to level up. Normally the higher tier items must be more viable and gain more xp!
