New best Legendary Items are simply given to you during the main quest line.
We as MMO players want to acquire something that we can enjoy and appreciate for a long time. Be it the acquisition of the “best” equipment in the game (whether PvE or PvP) or special achievements, titles and so on.
That’s why it’s very strange to see that the best “new” items are simply given to you during the new quest series.
On the one hand, this is absolutely bad for players who have had a hard time earning their items, and on the other hand, it is bad for your further PvE / PvP content - why should you still earn anything if it is given to you in a quest?
Current situation:
Players get a lot of legendary “best in slot” items through the new main quest line.
Give the players the Epic version of the items, not Legendary ones.
Give the players the possibility to change the Epic version of the item into the Legendary version through a crafting profession and rare items (e.g. drop from mutation in the new dungeon).
My specific suggestion:
Items as Epic for the quest reward
Rare items for conversion to Legendary in combination with a profession (e.g. weaponsmith for weapons).
Allow rare upgrade materials to drop in the new dungeon mutation or PvP
In general, I don’t think having a small volume of legendary items as quest rewards is bad, and while they shouldn’t be best in slot, they should still be valuable. That staff is not what I’d call best in slot, but it is a great alternative.
I guess it basically comes down to; how many of the quests are rewarding legendaries? Is this just to fast-track people’s progress on PTR to make sure more of the patch content gets tested? A single >good< weapon I don’t think would be bad. Both weapons is a stretch. Maybe one piece of armor and one accessory.
The upgrade path isn’t a bad idea, but I wouldn’t put it inside the mutations. Nobody runs low level mutations anymore, and a lot of people won’t consider someone who isn’t decked out in legendaries. Normal mode of the new dungeon would be a lot more entry-level friendly.
I think this life staff’s perks with 10% less cooldown for each npc that die in a dungeon is very powerfull and it will be better then any other life staff (so far).
There are a ton of legendary items that they give away during simple quests.
I think the upgrade way is very good. You receive a powerful weapon with backgroundstory and be able to upgrade it to the most powerful weapon! Thats epic!
There should be different ways to upgrade for PvE and PvP. E.g m10, world boss, pvp event’s
Keep in mind the perk your referencing is on final blows you deal to enemies yourself, not your party members. This is very infrequent. You would not be getting as much benefit from that perk as say, Fortifying Sacred Ground. It makes this staff just so-so.
As someone who recently completed the Expertise grind to begin Mutations, I can tell you seeing m10s as the main PvE source is discouraging. The idea behind quest legendaries is to give players a starting boost, so they feel they have a leg to stand on. It took me 2 months of gypsum farming, world tours, dungeon spamming, and OPR to get every slot just to 600, and I still don’t have everyone weapon done. Locking that currency behind M10s would be insanely discouraging for a player just reaching that plateau. Should M10s reward more? Absolutely, but you should be able to farm out a respectable amount from normal. Enough that say 3-5 runs is enough to upgrade it.
This perk is not new, and that is not how it works. The cooldown reduction >only< procs on your personal kills. You have to be the one hitting the final blow. It isn’t great.
