As a fire mage, I agree, it’s stupid easy to get points spamming aoe… but the catch is that it skews players into thinking we are doing huge damage. We are not… we are hitting everyone for small damage and random fireballs/pillars before we die to any weapon that attacks us. You can literally stand in my aoes if you have a healer and be fine.
You’re getting killed by weapons? Man… lucky, the blades of grass are doing enough damage to kill me… I need to Get good!@ ![]()
2000 points of dmg gives 50 score. 1 assist gives 50 score.
Capping a point gives 90 score and getting killing blow on baron gives 10 score.
Someone can hit 50 range attacks and get 10 assists and get enough score to get max rewards.
This is why the meta is like it is. Bows are the most predominant weapon because they rack up score the fastest, FS and muskets rack up score quickly also.
Ahh the assists… that’s why I keep getting so many points. Everyone in combat has to stop and laugh as the grass kills me, then my team mops them up and the game gives me credit for assists. ![]()
Yeah in my opinion you should be getting way more points by completing objectives.
What does stat padding mean again?
AoE damage is a thing. It may not be as cool as getting all the kills with GS or BB or Musket
but it forces groups of enemies to burn cooldowns to make up for the aoe damage and it assists the team in getting kills.
Stat padding is getting great stats and not really providing any notable output on the outcome of a contest.
Getting 15k score with 10 kills, 3 deaths and just range auto attacking the zerg and staying at the back - this is stat padding IMO.
You know these battles, where it is quite obvious one teams zerg is stronger. They will hold mid nearly all game and you just get ranged pew pewing through the door or sniping from a rock.
Instead of a couple ranged rotating to backcap to split push, they will continue to pew mid all day.
If home base is pushed they run into base and pew pew from the walls and if homebase is caught they retreat to spawn and pew pew from the door.
These are the statpadders IMO.
As someone who played Guild Wars 1 i can say that New World is actually very similar to that Game. There was not a single Team Build that didnt revolve around spiking down enemy players. There you would do a countdown and everyone would use their spells at the same time. Having a randomly placed AOE ability on the ground would get you kicked out of any PVP group.
So we think the person who comes in 1st in damage but not kills must just be a crappy “stat padder”? aka solo person who didnt want to play exactly how the meta players play.
Im definitely a FS “stat padder” but only because I play solo most of the time. I cant rely on a healer and not using coms in OPR. I come in top 5 in damage almost every game and get between 5-15 kills and 1-3 deaths depending on which team Im on.
I’m not saying its more valuable than a VG mage who lands perfect screams for his 5 man, but it is math. And this type of play is always going to exist as long their are ranged weapons.
I also can not see how killing 15 people while maybe dying twice and doing 1mil+ damage is statpadding. You seriously think that does not help the team?
On the contrary, if the solo chads would NOT go back capping with a 5 man grp right at the start, we might actually win middle and the game.
The match is often lost because the main army has to fight 15 against 20…because muh backcapping good strat!
While the enemy caps the other 2 points and the respawn then prevent the backcapping…lost game right there.
Or running with 2-4 assassins and a healer, ganking solo people who come from respawn…to bolster the precious K/D ratio. Oh look I killed 30 people and never died, I am so good. Yeah and lost the match in the process.
That is not at all what he said.
You are seriously coping if you can’t recognize that there are people that just do a ton of dmg and are actually not contributing to the win.
It absolutely is. As a melee player, I literally have to purposefully not get to sun first although I know I can most of the time because I know for a fact that only like 6(if that) people aren’t going to stop and shoot at the door.
That’s just what opr is right now. 3k personal score = winning regardless of the outcome of the match and the easiest way to do it is a bow or a fire staff or a musket, etc. ![]()
Yes this is because OPR sucks it has nothing to do with the firestaff
Yes opr does suck.
As for the firestaff(and other ranged weapons) it’s about how they’re used. People will literally sit and just throw attacks into clumps with these weapons in opr. Not even caring about getting kills or pushing any objectives and will have 3k points in a few minutes.
Idk why opr specifically states firestaff though
Let’s get 40 random players and 5 man groups together for a team based game mode and call it outpost rush. This will buy us about 2 years before we need to refine it.
I would only add that most Bow players, if they are simply playing for Score via your above mentioned point values, are playing Bow incorrectly, for the purpose of getting 3k+ score or maximum score overall.
Its more like. The firestaff itself is not currently designed to get the most kills thats why so many mages are using BB or VG. The firestaff is supposed to be an AoE weapon and it wouldnt be effective at all if it didnt top the charts in damage using its AoE.
The game is so laggy I find it pretty hard to finish off anything without just pure damage/luck with firestaff.
All they have to do is make it so that damage only counts towards your score if the person you damaged dies within 20 seconds (basically one health pot/regen pot rotation). If you did damage and that person doesn’t die in 20 seconds that damage wasn’t relevant anyway.
This would incentivize alot of the low-skill ranged players to also go back to melee as they will struggle to get points which would be more enjoyable for most people.
Yeah. Because if you get within 30 meters of a melee you are instantly rushed, perma staggered and CCed and die within 5 seconds without even being able to press a key.
Melee is so oppressive that you can only play at extreme ranges or be in a premade. Or sneak around and assassinate single targets.
And why bother…as you said…put some AoE and get your 3K points for max rewards regardless of outcome.
On the other hand you only need 500 points anyway to get your chest. The PvP tracks are useless anyway.
As a person who plays light melee, can confirm that with some skill and sometimes luck, you can In fact get within 30m of melees without dying.
