You sure you work in software development? Are the devs making the decision for go no-go? Isn’t the managers or higher ups still make the final call?
My company develops software that is used primarily by Fortune 100 clients. We would never consider releasing a feature that was as flawed as many of the features released in New World. It would be economic suicide.
@nabi No the Devs are not making the call for no no-go. Nothing is shipped without QA clearance and the approval of the Project Managers/Business Reps. We would not ship something with a feature that was listed in our release notes that could be proven to not be correct with a single test (the various mote mobs that are not farmable) nor would we make sweeping changes in one release that would lead to core functions that were previously functional needing to be shut off (the change from Quints → Motes → shut down of harvesting said mobs).
And thus you are comparing two different industries. Again, this is client plus server development. I do not know what your firm does, but chances are the client is a browser. Chances are that the feature set is significantly lower than a MMO. Chances are that you do not have to write to your own api’s but also DX11, steam, twitch and optimize for Nvidia and AMD drivers. I can keep going on and on . . .
And honestly, chances are you are not developing and deploying at this speed. If it is for a fortune 100 company, that is generally for a 3 year deployment of specs. The speed in which AGS is pumping things out is almost like a CI/CD cycle. The issue again is the unit tests imo. I am not saying that AGS is perfect. I honestly think that they should go to an every two week cycle (aka sprint) for deployment and only deploy hotfixes when the !@#! hits the fan (duping) That would probably be better imo.
I agree with the original post. I was hanging from an edge, playing still because i was invested in my professions, and hoping for a good patch to at least be able to farm starmetal and wyrdwood again to hit some of my goals.
Instead of balancing the mote drop system from creatures they gutted it. I was sad about not getting quints or motes, but happy i could at least chop wood and metal from them. But they nerfed the drop rate by over 90%. Its dead… it would be faster to chop one cluster of wyrdwood then logout for 30 mins. The starmetal drops from ice wolves wasnt even crazy, just a good option if the other spots were busy. Dead now.
These are only a few changes, but all of the updates are starting to feel the same. Im not excited im worried. Oh well i guess i can go chop wood on another game…
I poked in to see what VG was like cuz I’m a healy boi and I like expansions in that direction.
But, even the more ardent defenders in my group are outing the endgame for being a slog, a slog they just increased the slogginess of. Even the guys who were fighting me on the game being a broken launch are now coming back and telling me it was a broken launch.
The issue isn’t the devs though, it seems whatever upper management runs this has their own agenda that doesn’t correspond to keeping us as a playerbase.
The only reason New World still has servers online at all is for legal reasons.
Since not all quitessences drop from monsters, it would be unfair to leave life quitenssence drop from terra wolves. It’s unbalanced and the change was meant to balance this out.
It’s the same for wyrdwood where wyrdwood trees were completely ignored.
If you can’t understand a change like the elemental creature nerf, you should take an iq test.
Elemental creatures were fixed. The things they dropped were an anomaly for the economy and a mistake to be left unchecked.
Why are you insulting me? If you want people to know you are rude, then job well done. My post stands for itself and im proud of what i said. Its unfortunate that you failed to understand another perspective, it seems to be a common problem these days.
I was excited to finally be able to do my old starmetal farm, even if the motes, quints or whatever are nerfed to extinction.
However 95% less starmetal seems like a separate issue than elemental motes. I thought they might adjust it, but i didn’t expect 95% less. Once again, this coming from a change they called a “fix”. Maybe there was a situation on other servers, but i actively check the forums and watch streams, ive never seen another player farming the ice wolves. It wasnt even good unless other starmetal spots were taken. It was only good as an “unpopular spot”.
Didn’t you hear? It is 2021. Nerf are the new Fix! It is after all, only a nerf if you do not try to disguise it first. And bugs… remember, there are no bugs, only exploits you get banned for or “features” they have not yet “fixed”.
And then they wonder why people are quitting. When every patch is a downgrade to something that wasn’t broken, while ignoring things that actually needed fixing, why should anyone have faith that they’re going in the right direction for a long term game?
If it’s a budget thing, then spend the money and hire more help, don’t intentionally screw up the game just so that it becomes smaller and more manageable for a team of the current size/experience level
Whoa 95% less??? Man forget that!
How can you STILL ask people for constructive feedback?
People did that 2months ago. AGAIN AND AGAIN.
And yes we got our “moneys worth” out of the game.
Most of us are so pissed exactly due to sunken cost fallacy. We’ve invested way to much time in a beautifully aesthetically pile of shit with hopes that it will become better, yet it only got worse and worse. And people did hold on for over a month while already not enjoying it much. I mean is it really not understandable for you that people who invested over 300-400h in a MMO get mad when nothing is getting done to actually make the game enjoyable?
The core, the graphics the sound is great. This game has a ton of positives and minor stuff would make the game really enjoyable TILL content drops.
People liked the game and hoped it will go in the right direction, yet it looks like they try to strip every last fun out of this game.
They can’t even manage what’s broken, noone even cares about more content at this point besides the 5servers per continent which aren’t dead
It feels like people are happy that over a 2months period they ALMOST managed to fixed self-induced issues. Like really… wtf
They don’t have issues with budget either. Their ads are getting spammed everywhere atm.
To those who don’t know
Ads cost…
…a lot
it’s freaking amazon still over their heads
The hell you say… I sure in the hell didnt. All I got was endless bugs and tremendous frustrations.
Wont you please tally up how you think I got my money’s worth for me… I fail to see it. At best, a 10$ game. Were’s the other 40? …and all that time I spent expecting it to get better… Boy was I a fool ass dummy for believing in this ignorance.
Ditto on this.
This many P0s, and engineering manager and executive’s heads would roll.
The level of incompetence shown here is staggering.
I agree with most of what you say.
I am sad to see such a fantastic game fail due to…incompetence… or maybe just overmanaged by people that don’t know what they are doing.
I took a break from this game by the end of October, in the hopes of them making this game more enjoyable with less exploits and bugs.
I saw less and less reason to return after each patch they released. It’s like they’re progressing backwards lmao
He speaks for me as well, and every member in my company. The game is a beautiful Tragidy. That’s it nothing more.
S&S needs a slight rework. Why am I being stunned by WH while my shield is up? Makes no sense. I should receive zero effect and damage unless they break my shield.
I don’t see how the other quintessences not dropping from mobs is “unfair” it could have either been something that would have been possible with the addition of new mobs down the road or even something that didn’t need to be added. I thought it was an interesting twist to the market that certain quints had a different value than others due to the availability of quints dropping rather than all of the motes–>wisp–>essence–> quint markets following the same valuation pattern.
