AGS, We need to rethink corruption portals

I dont know about cosmetics, but I think more gold and territory standing would be enough incentive. Maybe a region-wide 10% gathering/crafting buff can be applied to regions clear of corruption as well?

I initially thought (erroneously) that portals were tied to invasions. I would spend more time removing them if it did have a limited effect at reducing the strength of the invasions. I would never suggest that an invasion could be prevented. Many, including me, enjoy them. Perhaps reducing the strength of the inevitable invasion by a max of 10% or something like that. There could even be a meter, like the territory influence showing when max limit for a territory has been reached. If they are ignored then the invasion would get even stronger than it is now. Just an idea.

Yeah, I like the idea that it would also reduce the strength or even increase the rewards of the invasions too.
I’d love to see more reason to do the portals, I’ve had fun doing them, but all in all, I just avoid them now.

I think this ist the best link to invasion.

also the territory standing should be increased to have a better benefit to fight against. ATM only 1 or 2 runs per day are organized on my server for gypsum.

As a fellow person on pluto I think another factor is portals are easily done now with 2-3 people. So no need to setup large groups. Last few portal runs I’ve done with as little as two people for minors and three for majors.

625 gear along with all the extra perks they come with make running a lot of end game content easy. In fact I’ve been able to solo some of the tendril 66 portals with a spear and vg combo.

Great feedback. Destroying the corrupted portals does nothing right now. It would be great if destroying the corrupted portals delayed the invasion by a day or reduced the invasion strength.

One of the problems is that there is no reason to do any portals below the top level except for level 25 stuff that is really easy to solo. The rewards for doing 35-55 portals isn’t commensurate with the increase difficulty, and the main reason people did portals was for azoth or territory standing. Now there is no reason to do them for azoth, since travel costs are so low and the vials are so cheap. The extra gold for doing harder portals isn’t worth the time or difficulty, and only the level 66 give you a chance for gypsum, so most places are going to have corruption portals that never get cleared.

I think if they actually had an impact on Invasion timers, gave buffs to invasion defence or weakened the invasion corruption monsters or similar this would be good.

Other rewards would be good, but currently I agree that they don’t offer any use unless you run them in 60+ zones to get Amethyst shards.

just add corrupted lodestone to invasions and be done with it.

Another thing I’m somewhat annoyed by is corruption portals spawning where rare Orichalcum nodes are spawning messing up their respawn timers. Not only do you then have to compete with bots taking the nodes but also portals that can spawn at random times.

Thank you! And, please also thank them for the announcement of the leaderboards (pvp and pve), the pvp arenas, and the pvp currency. I’m very excited to see these additions to our game and hope someday we’ll have open world pvp objectives like DAOC’s keep/relic capture and defense system. In either event, the current proposed changes are awesome; Keep up the great work everyone <3

Honestly with how easy invasions are right now maybe it should be the other way around. Make it so clearing portals while flagged increase the difficulty of invasion potentially up to significant amount, so poeple will zerg runs of them to try and fuck over other faction territories.

Why not mixing up both ideas, Portals roll a random effect, either positive or negativ. Azoth vials could be used once to reroll again.

I will agree with Bobthefeeder that invasions have become easy. People learned the patterns and became equipped and do very well now. However, on the servers that have lost population, invasions are no longer easy. In fact they are impossible when there is not even half an army online.

As the governor of a territory on a low pop server, not one of the main hubs, I simply don’t have the income to keep replacing tier 5 stations when they are inevitably lost to an invasion. I’ll be transparent here on what my agenda is. I’m looking for another way to negate the downgrade from invasions. I have given this some thought so here’s another idea on changing portals to make them useful.

Clearing portals could lower or even eliminate the chance of losing upgrades. It would not be easy and would require an effort over multiple days. This makes sense from a story standpoint as weakening an invasion force should reduce damage done when they do invade.

Checks and balances, the more upgrades a territory has, the more corruption must be cleared to achieve the same downgrade chance. At a certain upgrade level, it becomes impossible to completely negate the risk. If a population is high enough to support that level of development, then they should be capable of defending so there should not be an issue. If no effort is made until the day before invasions, then it should be impossible from a time standpoint to clear enough to matter. Along with this, change the respawn timer so there is more time between portals. This will help solve the issue of portals just being a nuisance. Also, there is little that is more frustrating than clearing a portal that is suppressing a rare resource node only to have the portal respawn before the resource does.

Thanks for listening

@Luxendra Also of note. There is an extreme lack of quantity of gathering nodes on properly populated servers. The portals are huge in diameter and always spawn over higher level node locations. This furthers the issue of not enough nodes as they vanish when the enormous portal spawns. At least make the damn things spawn away from prime gathering locations!!!

Isn’t just the lack of nodes that’s a concern I’m afraid. The problem is compounded by the hordes of bots who run around taking resources 24/7 without being shutdown and banned.

Tokens and Umbral Shards.

They should give out 100-500 faction tokens and 50-250 umbral shards for clears - depending on level (25,55,etc) and minor/major breach.

Guaranteed there would be hourly groups in Reek, Ebon, and SM

I agree with OP and other posts.
I’m on Pluto server as well.

I solo clear out up to level 45 portals.
Not for rewards, experience, goals or anything good like that.

Corruption Portals are just trash nuisances blocking my sight with big dark areas and in my way for gathering resources.

The only time I’ve found corruption portals worthwhile is helping a lower level player-who asks in general chat or help to do an early quest to destroy 3 of them.

I loved the warden story, i loved the concept of why those portals were on the land and invasions.
Make them worthwhile to do.

THIS!

I’d like to see us be able to use portals as a method to attack the corruption at it’s source. There should be a fort/base on the other side and after clearing the portal we can enter it, beat the corrupted at their home and retreat back through before it closes and traps us there. I know it would require new content but I think it would be a wonderful addition to the game. The type and level of the portal would define what’s on the other side, as well as the enemies faced.
Any thoughts on this?

Use the portals as a way to put a burden on the company that owns the territory…

For every portal cleared by a non company member the territory owner has to pay 100g

There is no responsibility tied to territory ownership. They just collect taxes and recurve benefits. This could be a way to balance that out.
