You are right pure pvp MMO’s don’t attract massive numbers but thats not what I was suggesting, I was alluding to the fact that PvP isn’t a niche item in gamer terms, most players would rather PvP as relaxation.
New World could bridge that gap between faction based games like Albion or Eve and give something different enough than WoW or FF, no full loot but more PvP types to encourage people to flag up, its about pushing people to engage in content to extend the life of the game.
If this game competes with those other MMO’s then it’ll soon be game over.
Amazon didnt stick with a pure PvP survival game within an MMORPG shell because they realised quickly what limited appeal that had.
I, for one, have really been enjoying New World for many aspects. I will EVENTUALLY get into PvP as I have always PvPd. But I picked up the game for its unique style and blend.
I can fish, and I never enjoy fishing in a game. I can hunt. I can craft. The game is extremely gorgeous and lifelike. The concept of the lore is interesting.
Name me another MMORPG that sends me back, essentially, to a Colonial America (albeit low-fantasy) where I can shoot at Turkeys. There isnt.
Im currently enjoying the game for everything that isnt PvP right now.
If players like you had their way…players like me wouldnt even have bought the game. Amazon sensed that and wanted wider appeal. And im grateful because I found something new to enjoy
Well lets be clear here Im not asking for the original idea, I understand that full loot games are always going to be niche in their appeal and although I enjoy them I do also understand that they are not main stream, what I am asking for is more reasons to PvP and they do not need to be as brash as (lets just bonk anyone and everyone) I was giving an example of PvP vs a non flagged player because many games offer this and are successful such as Black Desert.
My point is mostly about increasing what is on offer and reasons as to why you should flag for PvP, for example taking a sub zone (like the fort) of a territory, you take that subzone and you get increased harvest rates or better drops.
Other games such as Guild Wars 2 or Elder Scrolls Online separate out their faction warfare into a battle ground, where PvP is always on, there are plenty of things like this that can be done in essence such as more reason for pvp flagging for faction warfare.
That is all I am arguing for here, I know to look farther than that is silly because it won’t happen, but seeing some truth in OP’s reasoning is valid.
Yeah mostly it was the shotcalling and tank engages that made the most difference in ZvZ. As a frostmage I didn’t really do much other than following up a good engage so can’t take any credit. (Ellipses, Manchild and owens were really good shotcallers).
But GvGs were 5v5 arena style team battles and they were actually skill based. Yet another reason why I like instanced pvp instead of open world ZvZ.
Everything sounds like fun, but maybe optional pvp flag till lvl 30-40, not full loot drop but chance of dropping something from inventory except equiped items. and thats it problem solved. No more newbie spawn killing. pvp still risky, but not that much that you loose ur top shit that you spent 100s of hours to get.
was looking forward to reaching lvl 60 for some action, suffered through identical quests and grinding proffessions, now im there, and nothing, was grinding pvp missions for faction gear for 2-3 hours, now i got close to best stuff for my build, and its all pointless now, dunno what to do with it.
Again; no. I refuse any idea where the PvP flag gets turned on ‘after {x} level’. This is just forced PvP.
Not everyone wants to PvP. This is not a pure PvP game. Stop thinking any idea to force non-PvP players to flag up is a good idea, because they are not.
Yes. Nothing in it is a good reason to make me, and others, who don’t want to PvP, PvP.
It’s all ‘PvP is better for PvP players’ being used as an excuse to force PvE players to PvP in certain areas, or forever, or whatever.
None of it makes ME, a PvP hater, want to PvP. It just makes me HAVE to PvP to make PvP players happy with another body to merk.
If you hear stories of how empty Alpha became and how people played it, you might change your mind. Everyone running around naked with wooden swords to avoid losing anything valuable… ganking rampant. And empty servers that they couldn’t send out invites fast enough … because people didn’t like it and left.
or you can look at pvp zones as extra hard content zones, so if you dont like them you dont go there and you’re not forced to pvp.
but you must agree that this game is about 3 factions in a war for control of the island and at the same time all those 3 factions run around elite zones collecting chests. Doesnt make any sense, from lore or any other perspective. you cant say that banding in a 50 people zerg from all factions, and running throug elite zones looting chests is a good pve content.
But you are forced if, and only if, those zones have content that PvE players require (such as the only places to get nigh end crafting mats).
I don’t mind PvP zones, and I don’t mind if there’s bonuses to mining/crafting in them, to reward a risk/reward play.
Just so long as PvE players don’t HAVE to go there to get certain items.
well in most of my responses i advocate, the best high lvl zones being pvp autoflag zone, as they contain highest density of nodes, most elite chests etc. but at the same time, leaving rest of zones, which also have elite chests, raids etc, optional flag zones.
i dont know, if you would agree with this, but i think players who are good at pvp and pve should be able to get best stuff. not someone who only plays 50% of the game, even if some pvp zones have resourses or loot that drop only there wouldnt be huge problem for pve players, as you still have guilds, trading, etc. so if you need something from pvp zone you buy it.
now this game is easy for pve stuff and pointless from pvp side.
It ads incentive to own a territory but if you’re not “in the know” from beta you did exploit the game mechanics to win territories nor would you know about all the unfixed bugs in alpha that could be used to gain advantage. The weirdest thing is you cannot own some of the higher level area’s in particular Shattered Mountains/Peaks. It’s like territory wars drop off in the lower tier zones and there is nothing to fight over or to generate conflict. Game sure could have used a pvp server or several. Shame.
The pve side is broken. You would have to farm 2 to 4 hours a day for maybe even a few days depending on your luck in order to get enough shards etc to make an attunement orb to even get into the higher tier dungeons. 30 days of release and it’s still impossible for the average joe to even do a dungeon. Clearly they didn’t test these systems and sold an unfinished product to players. Even in the two week beta players were able to do some of the end game dungones. Near impossible for the average joe to do that now. It’s a cluster f**k.
