Waking up to this update from the Devs.
It took roughly 90% of the community to speak up but, you listened to us Devs. Good deal. Carry on. Thanks.

It’s absolutely great they listened. But it’s really awful feeling that we came so close to such a disastrous decision. I see this as an absolute win/win for everyone. We get a new system, no one gets nerfed, we get more options to level up, it’s all good at the end of the day.
New World lost 40k players in the last few days which makes me to believe that it is because of the Endwalker update but also because of the aptitude and gypsum systems.
I was personally preparing to head out after the next patch because one thing is to have a bugged game that can be fixed over time and another thing is to prolong the current content with up to six months by adding some extremely grindy systems while also taking away some of the progress made by the players so far.
Where do you get that number?
According to me status it has more or less stayed the same during the last week
That looks suspicious.
From 3rd Dec on, there is no 21:00 Datapoint. I would not overrate this graph.
It’s good that they listened (wonder where Arcana is now?) and I do try to be positive and I’ll still allow myself to think that the whole system is still really, really lacking overall (the whole concept of getting loot based on leveling up an integer from 500 to 600).
But I’ll just buy into it with these compromises and be thankful that we have them.
Well, thats just your interpretation - doesnt have to to be right.
I know a few players that stopped playing because of the lack of a good progression system. They made good gold, bought and crafted 600 GS stuff and they had no real “targets” to reach.
So the new update would have been a motivation for this kind of players. And maybe, the new compromise might help a little bit, too…
This data is pulled directly from steam. Unlike many other game services, steam directly lists play count on any servers that are connected through their platform.
If New World only lost 40k players you would hardly even notice it on the graph for concurrent players.
The only relevant question is if New Word lost more concurrent players after the 1.2 announcement than normal. You can pick any week and see a bigger drop than this particular week so far.
The last few days on the site linked though are a bit odd, 3 till 7 december is squashed together in a totally different time window.
If you look at for example Steam Charts, which shows a 24 hour graph since then, the picture is vastly different:

Thanks for looking it up.
So the missing data points are the reason.
Steam’s player counts are of people who have the game open, not necessarily just people who are logged in. Instead, I use New World Status, which takes server information directly from the Overwolf API which feeds directly from AGS’ New World servers.
The new dev update looks amazing so i am looking forward to see better days for this game.
