Am I playing dex builds wrong? Is it even worth it?

So I started the game as a full INT Ice gaunt/Rapier. The game felt too easy. Became not enjoyable, Even pvp was mostly a breeze… Its not hard to trap players in massive AOE’s and to do massive damage to them on the front lines.

So I switched to dex - I currently run 2 builds in dex. Either Bow/spear - Musket/rapier.

I have tested out many different types of builds with all dex weapons. Even tried to go full glass cannon with 440+ dex. I tried going semi tank dps. with 250 dex + 200 cons. I have tried Light/Medium/Heavy armour too in all cases on both builds.

I have also crafted my own 590+ Weapons with crit bonuses/Headshot increased damage.
Got armour perks that are suitable to my weapons, they are supposed to decrease incomming damage when certain skills are deployed.

Now heres my issue… With Ice gauntlet/rapier INT build… Or Ice gauntlet/Firestaff…
My basic attacks… Done way more damage than I have been able to scrap up through the dex build.

Musket/rapier - (While I was in light armour for the 20% buff)
800-1000 damage a shot against heavy armour. -
900-1100 damage a shot against Medium armour -
1000-1500 damage a shot against light armour.
Crits are not much higher than that. around 2500-3000 on light armour

Ice Gaunt/Fire staff (Light-Heavy attacks)
1000- 1300 Heavy armour
1600 - 1800 medium armour
2000-3500 Light armour
The damage isn’t accurate for both of these. but this has been roughly my experience.

Despite “Superior” range with the musket, in a ranged fight… the firestaff has more DPS+Bigger projectile + Higher fire rate. Making a musket worthless in any medium ranged fight.
I just dont feel the love for the musket currently? am I playing this build wrong? If I am let me know.

Uhm, so…

With the new update to resilience Dexterity weapons are apparently useless to run as crit builds as you’ll end up in a situation in which you do less damage when you crit than when you hit normally.

But that’s just what my fellow company members running dexterity weapons tell me.

Furthermore the light and medium armor damage/healing buff is not a flat 20%/10%, they are in fact 8%/4% so hardly worth using over the extra damage reduction in heavy armor.

Yep I think mages have insane attackspeed with insane damage. I can never beat a mage with my bow  They are just shoot faster and deal more damage, also mage spells have big hitbox, easyer to land.
Not to mention, they can use spells meanwhile basic attacking. With musket and bow you need more time to use a spell. I guess I need to pick my Int gear up again :frowning: Musket and bow is just not as rewarding.

will this be fixed?
I mean i have voidbent medium dex build… i get 3 shotted and do hardly any extra damage compared to a tank… LOL

Yes I think you do… Play it wrongly I mean. We can all agree that musket needs some love but spear/bow is a very potent combo in pvp at the moment.
Edit: it was before patch 1.0.5 at least.

You are not wrong. There is no damage whatsoever and it’s unforgiving. Pros and cons are a bit skewed. I like unforgiving, but I could use the damage.

Spear and bow isnt so bad compared to musket/rapier.
Half the time I rep with my rapier. they dodge out of its stun? thats confused me, whats the point in having a counter ability that you can dodge.

That is false. Theight armour does in fact provide a %20 damage bonus , y’all just don’t know how to do math.

Show them the math, O Great One.

It provides 20% to base dmg, which pretty much only equals to about an 8% increase. 8% aint worth it over the huge survivability heavy gives.

Give this man some likes, he gets it.

Yeah, please show us the math because I don’t think you know what you’re talking about.

Hes right. it does only do 20% damage base damage.
But that makes it to be only 8% of an actual damage buff.
It does not specify base damage either, so one would assume it would be 20% all damage.

  • Light armour needs a damage buff.
  • Musket needs an armour pen buff.
  • Musket base damage needs a buff.
It needs this to make up for the lack movability.

I am weary of buffing musket dmg. And this is because it has extreme range is pretty much no drop or fall off. And It is pretty much hitscan. Now decreasing reload time, or making moving possible while loading shots and such would go a long way in helping. Armor pen might be a good idea to, since it wouldnt effect hitting light much and would help against heavy.

If musket dmg got buffed, there would be no reason to run bow tbh.
Or if you want it to have a dmg buff, then it needs bullet drop and to not be hitscan.

damage does reduce with musket over range according to its perks.

  • Bow you have insane mobility. you can literally jump out of gravity wells, or away from enemies.

For open world and some small scale evade shot works. You won’t generally run it for wars though. I have fleche on rapier for wells, even riposte can work since a lot of gaxe players will just rush you after a well. And well can be heard and dodge easily as well.

As far as musket drop off goes, everyone running musket takes that perk lol, so my point still stands.

Bow i need to lead shots on a moving target, and with its projectile speed, pray they don’t just stop moving. Dodging bow shots isnt to hard just moving left and while running. Arrows fire so slow lol.

Musket i literally just need to mostly point and click

Sorry for stealing the thread but I’d be interested in what was your original mage build like? I’ve been running as a hammer tank for 150 hours, recently equipped life staff to help myself heal in some situations but it’s so weak that it’s almost useless.

I’m getting bored of the LMB-holding gameplay, just smashing my hammer down non-stop and been thinking I’d love something a bit more distanced. Some fire or ice would probably be fun but I also want to be able to heal myself and others for those dungeon runs. Is a build like that even possible or viable where you’re both, a good damage dealer and a powerful healer or do you have to focus on one? Also, what attributes should I spec into and what perks should I seek out on my gear and armor?

Thanks!
