This explanation is going to be a bit long, because I can’t assume people know the fine details of how crafting works. Please read to the end.
First, let’s look at a typical potion crafting recipe. I’ve highlighted some parts in yellow.
Notice that the first slot (I’ll call this the primary slot) is labeled “Tier 4 Offensive Reagents”. This means that for an item to be used in this slot, it must have the specific tag “Tier 4 Offensive Reagents”.
The second and third slot are merely labeled “Air Reagents” and “Death Reagents”. Any tier material can be used in these slots, with higher tiers increasing the duplication chance.
Now let’s look at the Animal Eyes in my storage.
Since this item does NOT have the “Tier 4 Offensive Reagents” tag, it CANNOT be used in the primary slot of ANY potion. Furthermore, Offensive Reagents in general can only be used in the primary slot, there is no potion that takes one in a secondary slot.
Therefore, Animal Eye is completely unusable. It cannot be used to craft anything.
Adding to this, the other Tier 4 Offensive Reagents are pretty rare drops. You can fish for a very long time and get very few Starfish, harvest many mote flowers and get very few of the flower items (TBH, I forget which one offhand, as I don’t have any). This makes it difficult to craft tier 4 coatings.
Likewise, there is a similar problem with Animal Viscera. It also cannot be used for anything.
Similarly to the above, this makes it difficult to craft tier 4 tinctures.
And third, I can only guess that there is some missing Tier 4 Medicinal Reagent, because the only one I’ve ever seen is another rare drop flower. Consequently it’s hard to craft tier 4 health potions.
Besides the strange situation of having unusable alchemy ingredients, and the general inconvenience of not being able to craft potions, all of this also leads to closing off one of the options for leveling arcana (from 100 to 150) almost entirely.
I’m pretty sure this is a bug, and those ingredients are missing tags that they should have.
