Any chance for New World to come back?

Yeah, endgame is just one of the issues. The entire path to max level plus the unending and mind-numbingly boring gear grind are way bigger issues.

The game is still bleeding players just not at that high rate anymore. You will see the trend we are in now about hovering around 20k players dipping below and then back over slightly when new patch comes out. You’ll probably see a higher influx when the Brimstone Sands content comes out.

However with that said about Brimstone Sand is going to be the maker or breaker about some of the issues with the systems in place that tend to alienate the new fresh level 60s. People found it more enjoyable leveling up 1-60 then doing the relentless grind to get expertise up.

Issues that need to be addressed

  • Expertise System needs to go

  • Loot Overhaul - Legendary items don’t feel all that Legendary when people are decked out from head to toe. Legendary weapons should have that Unique name and perhaps even a unique perk specific to that weapon type and be challenging to obtain.

  • Crafting - Would be nice to see major changes to the way crafting is now. The refining materials, Tannin, Flux, Weave, etc… Why can’t these be created without the need of a material converter? Crossweave cant be made at a loom? Solvent at arcana? annoying to do chest runs to gather these or just simply purchase off the trading post

  • Weapons - They need more choices in skill options. Some skills are just laughable at best and never used.

I would come back for open world settlement invasions (no instanced cross faction shit) , and no turning flags off for any reason , because that defeats the purpose of 3 faction warfare …more sandbox , less AGS …if they have to help us have fun , it’s not really fun …

New Worlds isn’t the WoW smashing hit that AGS hoped it would be but around 20K peak is what EvE Online has been running at for years. The main difference being that EvE is subscription based. With some judicious changes and thinking through the paid for content New World probably has a future. Certainly recent releases have been good and the changes they’ve been bringing in just get better and better.

If it was me I’d probably do a few things to try and bring New Worlds back on track:

Fix the loot system…it’s horrible. No one want’s to get 100 pieces of loot from an Elite run all of which are completely pointless. I’m looking forward to seeing the changes this month but I suspect they won’t go nearly far enough.

Make PvP wars more meaningful. It doesn’t honestly really seem to matter to the majority of players who owns a particular town and from what I can see towns can be very difficult to take from a determined defender. The whole open world PvP needs to change so that it actually matters to people. At the moment it’s a side show that most players can ignore.

Crafting is still largely broken in as much as the majority of ingredients are pretty much worthless. It’s a little soul destroying to collect hundreds of ingredients to then have to sell them on the market for 0.001g a piece. There needs to be more ways of utilising ingredients that adds real value to them. We almost need another tier of crafting that allows you to personalise weapons to a greater degree.

Pretty much everything of value in New Worlds doesn’t move. The same chests, the same creatures in the same regions, the same resources in the same places. It makes for a very static feeling world. There needs to be more randomness to make the world feel more alive. There is very little risk when you always know where certain creatures are going to be and how to avoid them.

I’m sure there is more but that’s just the high level stuff that springs most readily to mind.

I love this game…I hope they are able to continue to work on it to make it what we all hope it could be.

PvP-wise territory control is killing the game. Losers keep losing and leave. Then the losers from those remaining keep losing and leave and the cycle repeats and repeats. Either remove it or assign each person a random faction and reset territory control each week.

PvE-wise, there are too many mutation levels splitting up the player-base. People that do not want to do a M10, find it hard to join a mutation. When people have to wait 6 hours to do a mutation, instead of one every hour, they leave.

I really appreciate that line. If AGS has to help you have fun it’s not fun. There needs to be an element of discovery in an MMO whether it be a new ability you didn’t know existed, a hidden pathway, a hidden game mechanic that pushes the limits of the usual player experience. New worlds has a problem being mundane. The go here and kill 1-15 things has been the main attraction PvE experience. And as far as the PvP goes they have already removed the closest they have ever gotten to combining spells to get cool results.

If Brimstone Sand is only a sequel for players who still inhabit Aeternum, don’t expect a return of players.

Server merges increased the chances of New World coming back a little. Now on to the other major pain points of the game, in new or not-established players minds. Fix those and New World can in fact pull a ESO or GW2 without needing to pull a FFXIV.

It will come back once people like you gtfo. We are getting close.

How about talking with logic, and not strictly with your emotions. Is that too hard for a creature like yourself?

Allow me to be sarcastic and offensive when I see the same thread I’m seeing since the launch of the game.

For the 1000th time

You misspelled that. I am sure you wanted to say way too little.

Obligatory “everybody is quitting New World just fine without Khazadurin’s help” post.

I agree. The merges should help slow the bleed and maybe bring some players back that stopped playing just because dead server. If they fix the pain points it could bring more back. IMO they are doing a lot of things to improve the game, I just feel its too slow and not enough yet. Its getting close to being where it should be IMO. Just a few major pain points left.

The development has slowed down. We should be seeing major fixes every month but lately just a couple of very minor fixes and seems big updates in PTR come every two months now.

Just look at the state of OPR it’s been clear since last major update that Bow and SNS/Hatchet is very strong but there was no change - two months OPR was broken.

“Once everyone is gone the game will be fine” New World epitaph RIP

Copy and post it if you feel that strongly about it.
