Any chance for New World to come back?

Got it, and I completely agree. The game is not in a place where AGS should launch a paid DLC.

A big DLC coinciding with Burning Sands and maybe some new weaps drops could be the perfect time for a huge PR campaign though.

Maybe. The best answer I can give is definitely maybe.

The game has a lot going for it, I still play it. The problem with NW in its current state is it doesn’t have anything for casual end game. Right now the end game is PVP and mutated dungeons and as awesome as the dungeons are unkess you are farming for gear to use in PVP a casual player will only fo them so many times.

I am hoping they have 1 massive content drop with new weapons, perks, ways to diversify builds, game modes, dungeons, open world encounters and a new area players might return and more would stay.

The issue right now is long term engagement is basically decided by if you do wars or if you like hoarding gold.

i just started playing this game around 1 week ago and i really like it. but its very sad, that the reputation is so bad. its also the reason, why i was afraid to buy it at steam sale for 24€. but i dont regret that i bought it. at least for now. im sorry for my bad english

I think yes. I know a lot of people who do not play now because there is “no content.” They already ran all the dungeons, cleared M10s got 625 gears, 200 professions. We need more horizontal and vertical progression system.

Only players that say now “no end game content” and finished all m10 dungeons, those are the players with no life outside nw.

Because for you, having to do the same dungeon from m1 to mX is content?
Good thing you don’t work for AGS!

It does classify as an content, 3vs3 arena classify as content aswell, its a start…

No, an MMO does not need a “battle pass”.

Also, what a way to consider getting people to come back. Hey all, come back and grind your life away in game and pay us additional money to get extra rewards!

It’s also problematic in how they have trouble providing fixes and adding content that properly walks the line between actually fixing issues with balance and player engagement AND degrading the open world MMO experience and identity.

It’s been said a million times but they just don’t even know what they want the game to be other than a game that retains players.

It’s not just about making the grind easier, it’s about making it engaging. Right now grind is just busy-work to get to endgame so you can actively compete (mind-numbingly, fruitless hours doing the same dull thing on repeat just to get to a place where you are competitive and can play the actual game.) And eventually, like everything else, they’d eventually just make it quicker and easier until you can get through that grind super quick… And then it will just be another battlegrounds/arena game where you queue for OPR or 3v3s or do wars because the actual world in New World has no more purpose.

In trying to make their product consistently more palatable and easy to get into for everyone, they made it something that most people don’t see a reason to actually engage in or bother with for very long. There are better battleground/arena games out there with better skill-based combat systems and balance, there are better and more developed theme park PvE MMOs out there with massively more content, and there are better crafting survival-games out there. New World just becomes a very mediocre version of all these other games and now lacks most of what initially made it something potentially unique.

The only thing it really still has is beautiful environments and audio, which eventually become stale with the lack of substance behind them and start to show how shallow the game has actually become.

Yep, just like almost EVERY other MMO.

Funny how they can take a fairly original concept that may appeal to players looking for something different and engaging and go: “no, let’s get rid of all that and try to make it as much like everything else as we possibly can.”

This game was such a massive disappointment to me from what it was in alpha to what it has steadily become. I’d rather go back and play the alpha again even without all the new fancy “content” they added. :frowning:

Nope , its going to die very soon

That’s another reason why the genre is dying. Because the genre is nothing more than a lemon sale produce. Where sales are based off of misinformation or bait and switch practices.

While other genre have to deliver a product that is entertaining for the buyer in quick succession or risk refund. The MMO genre can hide behind “oh you need to grind to get to the part before you can start the game.” I have no doubt AoC and ToL are going to be the same thing. Because this business practice is what’s currently profitable in this genre.

Saying things like this, just makes you look like an ignorant fanboy. When New World don’t even come close to the niche forced open world PvP MMO concurrent player counts. Let alone to the popular MMOs on the market.

The major issue with New World is. The fact AGS willfully tried to be combine only the worse mechanics of this genre. In order to coerce people to stop playing their game, after the refund period. It’s crappy short-sighted business. But I’ll be surprised if AGS planned to stick around for long being a game developer. And it painfully shows.

hard NO with the current state, take ESO, with the previous summer sale you can see influx of new player, but compare to new world even though it has discount it still show downward trajectory.

Great example. But ESO was garbage at launch and after many updates, it became a little more playable

Well you can’t have 100k players leave when there are only like 20k playing , so of course less people are leaving , there are less people playing overall …

The remaining player base is made up of:

  • Players who truly enjoy the game and will most likely play this game no matter what

  • Players on the edge of jumping ship

  • Some bots

I don’t think the playerbase will drop significantly over the next few months. Possibly the next big content drop is the decider for returning players or those who are on the verge of quitting.

The question is really ‘Come back to what?’ If it’s the crazy 900k players I highly doubt that. Getting back up to 30k-50k ‘active’ players is possible and even beyond. So long as AGS continues to do the following then the game has a good chance to maintain and grow:

  • Crack down on bugs

  • Continue to add QoL updates

  • Reduce friction where it is reasonably possible such as shell companies owning servers etc

  • Continue to add fun content that is replayable

The potential for this game is really there!
