well for one, if HW, I can provision a server and do a restore within 2 hours. When I PXE that out to my image server I can also do lots for not much longer. For another I’m sure a doctorate isn’t needed to determine how long a rollback to stable(ish) takes. You don’t (hopefully) fart about for ages trying to fix something on live, you do that on your test. Not even gonna mention all the lovely SAN tools for snapshotting.
I’d like to have at least an estimate…
If it will take an hour, I may just do the laundry and return to the game
If it will take longer, I’d play something else for the evening (after doing the laundry^^) - or, you know, go for a Glühwein at the Christkindlstand
Just something would be good at this point…
Managing expectations is not that hard
If your car has a problem the machanic knows about how long he need to fix it cause he has fixed it already at other cars. If u would give him your phone cause the display is broke he cant tell u how long its gona take him to fix it.
So how u wanna estimate something u dont know the fix yet?
They probably just wanna do 1 Maintaince then doing 2.
And if they say an hour, and it is not back, then all hell breaks loose over that too.
Clearly there is something serious going on, they certainly will not keep the game down for no valid reason. Also it is Thanksgiving in the States. Who knows, they may even had to recall some devs from their family’s turkey dinner (well, think that’s tomorrow? but applies just the same).
At this point I personally feel bad for whoever made the mistake. For me it is just an inconvenience that I can not game for some hours. I’d say for the dev team responsible this is far more existential, while mistakes cand and will happen. All just humans in the end.
I’d suggest software engineers do exactly the same. However, if you are suggesting that the devs have no idea how to fix code like a car mechanic and a phone, that kinda makes sense, thank you.
you seem to be hell bent on having an estimate.
I just wanna have some decent communications at all.
“It will take us quite some time longer” is also a valid communication.
Ignoring people because you don’t want to risk the response is not helping anyone and is certainly not good customer service.
its not how to fix it. Its how long it needs them to find the problem. If its as simple as a backup they would have done it by now i guess.
Response cant be worse then this. U people cry like kids cause u cant play your favourit game for 1 day. Uff
well, I would be playing the game, if I could
This whole post reminds me of the scene where the donkey ask shrek again and again: Are we there yet?
To be fair, it’s called constructive critique about the way they’ve chose to inform us. They’ve chosen not to give any information at all over a longer period of time.
Still nothing? lol This is hilarious.
Nope, nothing
And getting a post telling u each hour that it will hold on makes it better? When they have a estimated time they will update us.
It’s called giving information to it’s customers and it’s also VERY normal for businesses to do. It’s what you’d call good service for it’s users, but it doesn’t seem like that is something you’re used to.
So if your electricity went tomorrow and your operator said nothing, you’d just be happy about no info at all? When you contact your provider they’d just blow you off with “we don’t know, you’ll know when at some point”, don’t think you’d be too happy about that but hey you do you mate.
If they post they are working on it to fix it asap. Yes i wouldn´t call them each hour if they are done already.
We have an update here: [Announcement] Emergency Maintenance for EU Central Region - #4 by Lane Thanks everyone!
This is pretty hilarious, rather than just rolling back everyone and sacrificing maybe a couple hours progress, just have the servers down for an entire day and disable trade lmao.
