Any good ways to lower PC temps?

Hello,

As a player who has recently returned to the game, I was wondering if there have been any new methods to lower the temperatures of CPU and GPU without just capping frames. If I uncap FPS in-game in a quiet area and hit like 120+ my GPU sits at around 81-85 degrees, and my CPU around 82-86 degrees. These temperatures are okay, but definitely not ideal for long periods of time.

So if anyone has any effective methods of lowering temperatures through tweaking specific things please let me know.

Thanks.

All in one cpu water cooler and prepare to turn your ac up

I cap CPU (85%) and FPS (45).
I would rather have quieter/cooler than run at full capacity.
New World (and surprisingly Civilization VI) want more power than I am willing to put up with.

Hello @Tux and thank you @CantankerousOB, @LordSando, and @kenneth for your great input on this one,

Thank you for posting this question regarding possible tips on keeping your computer temperature as cool as possible. I suggest taking everything mentioned here into consideration and will forward this thread to the General Discussion area of the forums so others can pitch in.

Best of lucks and see you in Aeternum! :wolf:

remove frame cap lower game to mid graphics and it will drop mass amount in what’s being used frame cap doesn’t work right atm dose not cap, so remove the cap lower graphics to mid should help.

I have tested with obs frame counter to find best frames

If your CPU temp is hitting low to mid-80’s, i’d be more concerned with that. Meaning you might have an air-flow issue in your case or you may need to:

  • Check your cooler to make sure it’s seated properly i.e. see if it’s wobbling

  • If you’ve had your CPU & Cooler for a long time, you could try to re-seat and/or re-apply fresh thermal paste.

An AIO as other’s have suggested may be beneficial as this reduces the reliance on airflow to keep the CPU cool.

If you have a mesh dust filter on both the intake fans and exhaust fans, I would remove the dust filter from the exhaust fans to eliminate airflow resistance going out of your case.

This may also sound silly, but try opening a window or two to allow air to circulate in your room - Room temperature will have a knock-on effect on the temperature of the air being pulled into the case.

Your gpu runs probably on stock fan curve and that’s really bad. Install msi afterburner and make a custom fan curve. Fans to reach 100% speed at around 58c You can check on YouTube how to do it and it’s a very easy one! Don’t be afraid to try it. For your cpu you probably need water cooling or just more fans in your case to create a positive airflow. Cap in game frames as well

Undervolt your GPU. My average temperature dropped by about 10-15°C due to that.

Agree with tactical, I was about to suggest similar. I did all the same and it improved but it highlighted the fact that my stock cooler wasnt adequate. (They usually aren’t)

New world is very cpu heavy, this prompted me to buy a big honking cooler from Amazon and reduced my overall temps by a huge margin. It was cheap, triple fan type, but there are other options.

I also opted to re-evaluate my case cooling configuration during all of that and further knocked temps down by changing the airflow to my case after watching a few videos.

Hope this helps!
