let me first say i really enjoy the pvp in this game, its most fun ive had in a long time with pvp, but constantly losing to people because they decided to be melee if they arent braindead is tough, i feel like im playing the game on hard and most others are playing it on easy,
melee out damages me, out stuns me, staggers me, slows me permanently if they keep hitting me, its almost impossible to get away from them if they know how to manage their cooldowns properly, which im lucky that many of the player base is horrendous, i get hit by left clicks for more than many of my skills do, so just wondering if any mages feel the same? the game is super fun but hard to justify continuing to play when it feels insanely unbalanced towards melee in just about every regard
Not to sound rude, but it seems like a skill level gap. You should never be losing 1 on 1 against a melee character (this isn’t saying mage is OP, I actually think they should have a slight buff).
Might benefit you to play melee in some OPRs, and learn their weaknesses.
you should win any 1v1 as a mage, which i assume fire-ice. i dont mean you win %100 of the time, you know you can misplay, miss a dodge or something. but there is no case a mage %100 lose an encounter, doesnt matter what build the enemy is.
BUT, there is a big catch, you must have way better reflexes and better items to make the class work. so mage is more demanding. you cant play mage at all with mediocre skills and items, it just wouldnt work.
mage is still weak but not for 1v1s, in fact flamethrower build is even strong in arena.
So funny melee can easily beat mages in 1v1 if a mage misses just 1 or two abilities they can get left click down because melee autos beat mage autos. Unless a mage is in med armor and running v-blade. Since great sword I don’t really see mages winning to much now also
cuz they dont play mage, or if they do play mage have not pvp’ed much
80+% of the players i see are just melee so obviously threads like this wont get very much engagement
any good melee should beat any good mage every time, really simple as that, whenever i see other mages in arena they have to be either really skilled or they get demolished in seconds, cant say the same about melee people who spam abilities but still have left click to crutch on that out damages all my abilities and slows me forever
I wouldn’t say melee should win every time, but FS/IG barely has any meaningful CC, practically no utility, unreliable mobility, average damage, and is forced into playing light. It’s not in a good spot, especially since AGS thought it was a good idea to introduce dodge translation reduction on melee hits.
i win many fights, the problem is if i dont completely outskill the other player or they play semi smart as melee it becomes a complete struggle, i have to use my skills perfectly to beat them, whereas they reach me one time and start their endless stuns/staggers and perma slow and its over, i have to manage all of my stuff so that they cant reach me and than i have to worry abuot them just running the other direction or behind cover cuz once they do that i cant catch up to them since i walk 2 mph if i left click at them, whereas if i try to run and i didnt manage my cooldowns im just 100% dead since their left clicks slow me and track/move with me and out damage all my skills/damage
