I dropped New World some time ago. I am pretty curious about the new content and all the fixes they have made after my departure (i quit about a month after Void Gauntlet was released). However, I am unwilling to return to playing with characters that are still piggybacking on ruined economy, exploits, and dupes from way back then.
The only way for me to give New World another chance is completely fresh servers with none of that baggage of the initial shitfuckery that happened.
Some people think fresh-start servers are always a bad idea - I disagree. Fresh starts are bad only when it’s nothing more than a sad moneygrab (Atlas is a great example of shitty “Fresh Starts”). It’s not that I am afraid of “being behind others” in progress, but characters made at launch carry a certain baggage that carries over in the form of ill-gotten gains from duping, exploitation, and other shit that - to my understanding - is now fixed. If the state of the game now is as good as some content creators say - fresh start might be a great way of getting people into the game permanently.
Just my 5 cents nobody cares about. Thought I’d share. Might delete later.
Early on a lot of those exploits could have done significant damage. The game has existed long enough that any artificial advantage gain has long since disappeared with the simplification of the grind and just time for people to catch up.
The problem is, with increased interest you are going to get more exploiting so the assumption that fresh start servers are going to be immune from this–is probably a giant mistake.
Fresh start servers really are about re-engaging with those people that dropped off between level 30/40 or the end-game gear grind. Pull them in with all their buds to start fresh again.
If you think fresh servers will fix the game I have a bridge to sell you. Not enough has changed with core systems and game moderation to make starting fresh worth the time
Pretty sure you just made this up… they have not alluded to transfers ever being allowed. I think best case they let you transfer off or eventually merge (much much further down the road)
Servers are not even confirmed, maybe they will not even make fresh server start and they since start will be transfer free… It depends how many players really will comeback … they will not make fresh start on 3 new servers … Anyway it does not matter for sure they will become transferable I guess in 2 months…
I don’t honestly understand what is taking so long with their information or the release… The technology to roll a new server up and lock it from transfers is already in place. This could be done on a whim.
They are not sure if its worth, it would be badshow if they wont fill even in 30-40% They did it once when they opened hundreds of new servers with only few ppl on them.
The servers will be capped with long queues. I just don’t know how long it will last. My real question is will it destroy current servers when people leave their company to go join them. I’m never a fan of splitting a small player base.
Since you were asking other people what evidence they have for their blanket assumptions, what evidence do you have that Fresh Starts are unlikely to bring in new players?
In my personal Circle of Friends, I know many people who didn’t play new world upon release and who are planning on playing if Fresh Start servers are released. They won’t play on Legacy servers.
I really have no idea why current players are so negative about the notion of fresh start servers. It makes me want fresh start servers even more, because all of the remaining existing player base seems to be quirky weirdos.
I think some people believe that they are owed the right to dictate how new or returning players experience the game because they never quit when the game was rather not enjoyable for a majority of players. Some people believe that it will just be a waste of time and refuse to acknowledge the excitement around it. Some people believe that the teams who manage the servers and the teams who are fixing defects or creating new content are the same people. Others believe that it is unfair that their 4 thousand hours of grinding can be ignored by people who don’t care and don’t necessarily want to play with them. The whole fresh start thing could totally fail, but it’s worth a shot. I would love to see some sort of analysis between legacy and fresh start server economies and territories after certain time periods.
