I’m honestly not too sure how I feel about the upcoming GS increase coming in with Mutations. Obviously we don’t know fully how the system will work. However you can already see the “upgrade” option if you rightclick on your gear.
My main concern is that I will have to run mutations to get the highest GS items in the game. As a PvP player thats honestly not really something that interests me. Even though I occasionally run dungeons, it would be a huge bummer for me if they decide to gate the higher GS items behind PvE content.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the addition of mutations are gonna be great for PvE players that are looking for challenging content and it will probably well received. I just don’t think the game is ready for a GS increase and really hope it’s only for specific items in the game that are only useful in the mutations themselves.
In general I think a GS increase should happen with a major expansion or a huge yearly update and definitely not 3-4 months after launch. Thoughts?
The new system seems to use these “Umbral Shards” that are probably gonna be exclusive to Mutated dungeons:
This is good because remember, the items will scale down to your current GS. So, sometimes you can find the perfect BIS item but only 550 GS, and you can use these to raise it to 600. Obviously, these won’t be easy to get.
Now, nobody really knows how you get them so yeah. It would be nice if PVPers could get hands on this too. However, orbs are expensive (and takes a lot of time), it would be “unfair” if PVP people could just go and do battlegrounds all day “for free” while PVE people had to go through all that trouble for upgrades.
Anyway, we have to wait for official statement not some what-if video. IMO
That would honestly be a great feature, if the max GS stayed at 600 and if the Shards would be obtainable through other activities than mutated dungeons. But I’m mainly concerned about the overall GS increase and I just don’t think the game is at a point, where it needs the increase either.
The way I read it is that these shards are not meant to increase YOUR GS, they are meant to increase item’s specific GS. From new patch, gear will “scale down” to your GS. So you have 550 GS item on you, but you play and use gypsums or do elite runs and increase your GS to 580. Well, your item is still 550, but with this shard, you can boost it to 580. At least this is what I understand at this point. Anyway, we gotta wait.
I agreed, if they raise the watermark after only 3 months of the game, I am probably out. Everything they do is PVE focused with provisions for crafters. PVP players get fuck all and I am not looking to regrind watermark every 3 months. Let alone roll new gear.
We don’t know a lot but I can say if they continue to ignore PvP players and continue to make the easiest weapons the strongest, the game is not something I will continue to play.
I’m fine with GS increases for PvE but not keen on it in PvP.
Atm I would like general PvP modes, like OPR, to be changed to have a maximum GS level (maybe 500 since that’s when you would be starting to play it anyways) which would make it easier to balance. The gear you wear would still provide its benefits, like higher stats and more perks, so having 600 GS gear would still put you at an advantage over someone on 500 but damage dealt and received could be easily adjusted since now it scales with GS and armour weight.
As for getting top end GS items above 600. I would like them to keep that as end game content only drops, such as mutations. Crafter could acquire mats from these dungeons, like the recently added patterns, which would allow them to make up to the new max GS but the patterns would either be rare or very very expensive to make. I know this could cause problems with the PvP only crowd but I’m sure at a later date some form of endgame PvP content will get added, be that a ladder system or rankings, I would look at GW2 as theirs is pretty good.
I am very worried about it as a designer. I think its to early for this. This will push a demand for more content even more beyond just having something new. That will remove the focus of the team away from fixing more pressing issues (server stability, animation locking/sliding, orb system, over all class design, and city related issues).
There is a game called the division. It’s kind of similar to new World in some ways. Anyway, they have a GS system in that game, and every patch they bump the GS maximum. It killed the game for me. It was okay to re-farm the same gear once or twice, but after that I was done. The division was actually in my top 5 games of all time, but the developers unfortunately messed it up.
Ill probably stop playing NW if they bump the Gs maximum too often without adding either 1) a reasonable way to upgrade your current gear
and/or 2) gear that’s completely new and worth farming (new perks/gear sets).
I do not want to farm the exact same gear but at a higher GS.
With that said, I do recognize that AGS has a problem (fresh 60s can buy top tier gear), so they’re going to have to increase the max GS at least once.
Make it so the team has to win to get the orb. Double win, people start try harding alot more (5 man stacks abound probably), and its not “free”. Like opr is ever free if you want to be competitive anyway lol.
What is your current gear and what PvP activity did you do to get it? As a PvP player I would love to know, because I’ve been doing PvE to get MY gear. (I consider crafting PvE.) Or are you complaining about new, better gear requiring PvE, although all the current gear also comes from PvE?
All pieces have resilient + either a weaponperk, Refreshing Evasion or Freedom. Jewelry is on the same kinda level with Refreshing Evasion + Health on the Amulet, Hearty + Keen Awareness on the Ring and Refreshing Evasion + Refreshing Toast on the Earring. Every single one of those pieces are crafted by a friend or bought of the Trading Post.
My Ice Gauntlet is Crystalline Curse, which I crafted myself, and my Rapier is a 599 GS which I also bought on the market.
All in all there are no avenues for PvP players to get items through PvP activities, which is definitely a little frustrating. The cashes from OPR and wars are absolute garbage 99,99% of the time and the drops that you get from killing people in the Open World are even worse.
The only way currently for PvP players to get decent gear is to run dungeons (have to get extremely lucky though; lots of repetitions) or you just craft/buy them, which is what the vast majority of the playerbase does. With the recently added Timeless Shards, crafting good items became a lot easier and pretty much makes all other activites not really worth doing to get gear. So yeah, just grind money and buy gear.
I’m worried that they will increase the GS to (let’s say) 650 and make that gear only accessible through running the mutated dungeons. This would put me in a position where all the gear that I grinded for for hundreds of hours is now outdated and the only way to get the good gear would be through PvE activities that I’m not really interested in (atleast not in the scope that it’s probably required to progress).
I just think if you want PvE and PvP players to exist in the same world, you got to provide a clear path for both communities to aquire gear that does not require to play the other side. Having to do something thats boring to you just to be able to participate in the part that you actually like is bad game design (which is also why PvE players hate tuning orbs).
I really hope they don’t increase it, it’s way too early. If they do then I think it’ll be a sign to quit as you’ll just constantly be upgrading gear and never get the sense of being finished with it for a while.
I could understand a small GS increase now, combined with the expertise changes, so that no one gets totally grandfathered in. But I sincerely hope that GS increases don’t happen often. Most of my slots are around the 550 expertise mark because I didn’t (and don’t) find the chest grind interesting.
If someone like me, who plays a lot of hours, isn’t even caught up to the last high mark when new bumps come out, casuals have no chance of ever having relevant gear.
I would like a method of upgrading gear. I would not be happy to see that locked behind one specific kind of content.
