Anyone using warhammer/hatchet? How is it?

New player here, just hit level 14 last night. I’m looking for feedback on the viability of warhammer and hatchet weapon combo.

On paper it looks like a strong build…

Hatchet - single target dps, mobility and self-healing but lacks aoe and cc.

Warhammer - crowd control, aoe

I’ve done searches on the build, but there aren’t a lot of guides on it out there. Seems most people are pairing each weapon with great axe, which I am reluctant to do with 50% of the players I see lugging around an axe.

I tinkered with it for a few levels, but only have beserker and clear out unlocked and don’t know how it will perform at higher weapon mastery levels.

Would appreciate any feedback out there for warhammer/hatchet’s overall pve and pvp strength, what your typical ability rotation looks like, and any other specific pointers or advice.

I used war hammer and the perks on it are really good if you concentrate on Strength. Hatchet I dont use, I have great axe as the other optional weapon.

Just my opinion. Play what style you want and experiment around ! I reached lvl 60 2 days ago with sns and greataxe at lvl 20. While levelling i played every other weapon for a few hours to test them, but finally went with sns and ga. Just yesterday i kinda got bored of it, respecced my points and now playing healer and i quite enjoy it. Just play around and try new things. Youre at quite an early lvl anf have all the time to experiment. And since you can respecc points its never to late to start playing another class, like in my case. The gold cost to respecc points at lvl 60 is 500gold fyi. I ended at lvl 60 with around 15k gold (around another 15k went into guild/crafting) so the costs are totally ok for me.

Enjoy and have fun !

Le bump.

Thanks for the 2 replies, but I’m still looking to hear details from people that are actually using the warhammer and hatchet combo.

Both are popular strength-based weapons, there have to be some folks out there using them together(and not with greataxe)…

For PvE, I find they work great together.

It gives you access to 2 different damage types, instead of only slash if you use Great Axe/Hatchet for example, allowing for a bit more versatility.

Pair up Armor Breaker with the Lasting Trauma upgrade (15% Rend) and Rending Throw (10% Rend), and stuff melts. Both weapons have a passive trait increasing damage to debuffed targets that double up on it.

On the other hand, compared to a Great Axe you lose out on leech and mobility.

This is the build I’m using. It is pure PvE on the hatchet side and I wouldn’t recommended it for PvP however. But the hammer could be paired with something else in that case.

Great Axe and Hatchet are the Yoda & Baby Yoda (I know that’s not the real name) of New World.

i did a tank build with warhammer hatchet, works pretty good as all con, hatchet coveres up warhammer weaknesses, and the heal is nice; warhammer is a good main tank weapon.

ended up swapping out hatchet for greataxe, because i found i was unable to use hatchet when i was tanking pve for a party. figured greataxe with all it’s aoe would allow me to continue tanking and get many of the same benefits hatchet gave.

Hey,

I’m using the Warhammer with the hatchet and I like it a lot because it compensates for the lack of mobility that you have using Warhammer as a main.

You won’t get all the strength extra stats that you can get using the great axe but it makes up for it by giving you mobility and a lot of range if you choose the throwing axe skill tree.

I’m enjoying it and I am level 46 now. But I am considering trying out the sword and shield as my second instead of the throwing axe, just because I think it’s cool and so I can tank some when needed.
