Are mages really as weak as everybody says?

More constructive than telling someone to not make assumptions and use words like “all players” or “most players”. Sure mate, sure. If it makes you sleep at night.

Heres a few matches right after 1.2 dropped. I seem to be fine this is why I answer topics like this saying people are exaggerating. I’m not the best player but I get good results still using FS/VG and contrary to what people argue me, no I’m not doing much dmg with the VG as I don’t use the blade often in this build. I use the VG for root and empower, the damage comes from FS BO/FB/INCIN. Usually end up in top 10 often top 3, typically 5-600k dmg.

Devs said in their video minor tweaks our coming in our favor, I agree they should do that.

First off let’s get the VG out the way because I don’t think that’s the one being talked about here and that thing performs just fine, it’s a great all round weapon

The ice glove is actually still okay but it’s only okay if you can actually hit a full ice spike, with out that it doesn’t really seem to have enough damage to carry it.
Half of its abilities are fairly garbage too

Fire staff in its current state seems to be completely carried by burn out.
The weapon is still useable but most of its abilities are just crap, they sort of took the guts out of it when they nerfed everything and made its light and heavies weaker.

Despite all the nerfs the IG seems like its really good at group combat and the fire staff is actually okay at group combat.

Personally I’d like to see the fire staff get its abilities buffed, half of the abilities feel bad to use, pillar of fire roots you and only does a little bit more damage than a heavy, fire ball is decent but it’s completely outclassed by void orb, incinerate has decent damage but it’s cast time and after cast are messy.
Burn out completely carries the weapon and we’ve actually hit the point where flame thrower frees more viable than most other options.

IG just has long ass cooldowns and some abilities that really perform and other abilities that are garbage.
Chilling winds needs a rework, that ability just isn’t good.
Ice pylon can be used for some meme build but the ability it’s self is garbage and only gets used for CD reduction.

that’s not “mage” it’s more battlemage… for me the real mage is dead (FS/IG) for a lot of reason already say everywhere here or reddit etc… play like a true mage : Light Armor, FS/IG you will understand

and the only thing work is being no brain and use every AoE in War and be on the top 5-10 scoreboard and say : HEY i make damage ! LOL nice booby but that mean nothing

Should that ever be a metric for success in any game based on group pvp? What I am saying is why even bring up 1v1 when that is completely irrelevant for any content of the game.

My feelings as fs/ig player since i started to play (after 1.2):

DAMAGE SINGLE TARGET (TIER B):
-Abilities don’t do much more damage than a basic attack. The basic attacks of the fs are decent in damage although somewhat low, they are easy to aim but also easy to predict and dodge by the target.
Basic ig attacks are somewhat worse overall because they are harder to land.

DAMAGE AOE (over 2million damage in wars) (TIER A, S for wars):
-Decent AOE damage provided by some skills, but not amazing if you go with your standard build. You can go full AOE talent tree to excels in AOE and always take #1 in wars cuz the high damage but you are useless in small fights with that build.

MOBILITY (TIER C):
Great mobility if you take the risk of wear light armor+burn out (you can roll away and use the skill for escape).
In medium/heavy armor mobility is quite low, completelly dependant from one interruptable skill.

CC (TIER C):
Low CC. Yes i know it feels to be a great CC weapon but is not.
FS cc is zero (maybe some incinerates…) And IG cc excels in slows cuz ice storm but roots are not quite simple to implement (two methods, and one of them requiere you to be close to your target, in a melee range) and duration is 1s only per root.

We just had a war tonight and our top mage dropped 34 kills and the top 5 players were mage,not sure what you’re on about

Equal skill equal gear is the key here. Im at 250 outpost wins and I can confidently say Ive met under 10 people that are actually good at the game since launch across 2 servers.

Which makes absolutely no fucking sense with how low the skill cap is.

I think mmos just attract the shittiest worst garbage players.

Just try the weapons and compare. The mages (light/medium range FS/IG) left playing are the people like me. Always played mages in MMOs and they can nerf it so I hit max. 500 per atk and I’d still play mage, idk how long I’d have fun in NW though hehe
edit: no they aren’t on an unplayable state, but comparing with all other weapons they are the weakest imo.

I don’t think that opr wins are a good indicator of individual skill tbh. It’s too easy to steamroll one way or the other lol. Need a 1v1 ranked arena or something.

This is one of the small things I’ve learned in my life… EVERYTIME somebody says “this is how it is” - there will ALWAYS be someone out there who can prove you wrong.

Thats the craziest part is I’m not that good or geared and still, less than 10 across around 2-3k lvl 60s. 1v1 ranked would be about the dumbest shit lol. Prepare to watch the never ending potion off of lifestaff V lifestaff. 1v1’s mean about 0 in this game.

Even same class 1v1s mean about nothing because you should honestly never die to anyone in a 1v1 ever in this game. Use consumables. If you take consumables out than its not a “real world” scenario. 1v1’s are pointless.

THAT’S THE THING stop take your scoreboard in war it’s not representative of what you really doing . Your damage is just AOE = more people , more damage + more time duration of the war. Even a kid can make top 10 damage in a war with only cast and stay hide behind a tree . That mean aboslutely NOTHING :slight_smile: and that dont mean you was a masterpiece in the war.

i play OPR with fire\void gaunlet mages that get 30 kills. You are living in pure copium thinking that mage is dead
