Now that they’re no longer required to key into dungeons, I’ve noticed on the PTR that no one is buying them. Are they becoming useless in Brimstone Sands?

you said it yourself PTR, why would you even farm and grind for money on PTR ?

PTR is the perfect place to test recipes that require motes. If no one is buying them, it means that there is no demand for them or the recipes that require them. There are many things that are in demand and thus have buy orders, including recipe components. Motes is not one of them. That’s what prompted my question.
I’m not grinding for money. I’m trying to see what gatherables I want to focus on a new server. Motes used to be one of the most reliable.
No. Motes will always be needed as they’re used in multiple consumable crafts such as Honing stones and Gems.

There’s no demand on the ptr because there are barely any players there… Definitely not a good indicator for item market value.
Motes are in constant demand. They’re easier to obtain now, compared to when I last played (although only by a small limited daily amount) and there is a lower demand due to the orbs as you say but on Nysa, before I transfered away, there were tons of high value buy orders for every mote.
Not so much on the server I moved to, which has fewer players and a less matured population. You’re seeing that multiplied by a ton on ptr.

Motes go into most of the consumables in the game, and are a quick way to level a lot of the skills… You don’t see this issue on the PTR because no one is worried about truly leveling their PTR account or the long term playability of it…
Just like you might have someone do a quick mat run(to check the drops they are concerned about) on the PTR you are not going to see that person, do a full grind on that same route.
Ok, glad to hear that this is just a PTR anomaly. What prompted the question for me was the number of other Buy orders that exist, whereas there were none for motes. It seemed to me that at the very least this indicated that motes were not in the highest demand relative to other items. But that could also be explained by unusual demand for items needed for new recipes on the PTR, etc. Thanks for the input.

I am looking forward to the new gathering tools that also get motes, so the prices drop. I need to finish jewelry craft. I have tons of silver and gems, but not enough motes to cut them.
Why do we even need motes to CUT a gem. Using them to merge gems, I understand, but CUT them?
How are you going to cut gems …make honing stones …booster potions to name just few ?
Somehow I don’t foresee many players placing buy orders for motes in order to cut gems. But I could be (and I hope to be) wrong, so keep up the effort to persuade me that they are worthwhile, I’m rooting for you.

The new gathering tools which will give EVERYONE mote while they gather other stuff is going to flood the mote market and I am looking forward to cheap motes
But the items for those new PVP foods, now they are going to go insane in price.
