These type of topics doesn’t really help you know. We don’t have to turn the debate into a trench war of PvPers Vs PvEers. Essentially we’re playing the same game. Debate your side and leave it to AGS to make up the decisions.
I’m against a PvP server because I don’t think the resources are best spent going that direction, especially taken into consideration the problems with a pure PvP server (particularly faction imbalance). Blizzard struggled with that part ever since they opened PvP servers up until they closed the last one down. That’s a lot of years trying to make something work without managing, and that’s only 2 factions to handle. That’s why I’m against PvP servers, I don’t think the resources spent making it happen, is worth it for any sides. PvPers won’t get a server with PvP on because most players are their own faction and PvEers get less updates because some of the resources are spent trying to balance out the PvP servers. No one wins.
This is why I think the avenue that’s worth pursuing, is towards making PvP and PvE work on the same server. Which means figuring out incentives for PvP without making it a “mandatory” flag. Personally I don’t think wPvP will ever work if you don’t have scaling, because you will always have a massive amount of griefers that only kill low level players. Which is why a lot of players now don’t even bother flagging for PvP. In some sense the PvP community could take their blame for this and start rectifying it by saying it’s not acceptable to kill players way below your level, but given WoW as an example, that is never going to happen. Hence, wPvP will never work out balance unless you have beta style scaling. Which funny enough the PvPers managed to get nerfed because they didn’t feel powerful enough.
I find it a bit ironic that AGS did have a solution for getting more to flag, yet PvPers shot that down. And now PvPers are complaining there are too few flagging.
I think the best solution is just forget wPvP and leave it as it is, and accept that most people won’t flag anyway. Then go instanced and organised with PvP so that those you fight against are the same level. For isn’t that what PvPers want, a fair fight?
I don’t get why ppl still feels the need to attack one side every single time they feel there is a need for it? A healthy mmo need both pve and pvp however, forcing one or the other is always a bad idea. Why does someone who is specct for PvE with bad PvP Weapons need to worry about getting jumped by optimized PvPer while all he wanted to do was just collecting some stuff for some professions. As for there is no PvP I do agree, that’s why most more Successful mmo’s have PvP modes instead of open world PvP since in open world you will have 99% of the time an unfair fight.
As for Hardcore PvP, just no. If you don’t have a leveling system and gearing would only take like 10 min, then it would work, but if you die and lose hours of progress and now have to spend more money and time to even get back to the point where you were, lets just say a game like this would die out in about 2 months.
i am an exception, thanks i’m not everyone
but i agree flagging myself is a disadvantage as i mostly play solo and like to interact with randoms for dungeons or elites etc.
its more immersing u know.
Like i said in another thread serious PvPers need to get their people in line and be more respectfull, inclusive and support good sportmanship more seriously etc.
This is as utopian as to believe AGS doing PvP only Servers. The whole Game would become unplayable and a mess because of the zerging and meta’s we actually have.
“Make my enemy brave and strong, so that if defeated i will not be ashamed.”
i dont see how it is fun to fight people who arent ready or willing to fight .
PVP needs to be consensual, every serious PvPer wants a challenge and a fair fight.
Everyone else ist just a bully. Unfortunately there is more bullys than PvPers.
That is the nature of hardcore PVP. A very vocal group within PVP are getting a rush out of “dominating” others. If you break that down on a psychological level, all you find are social and emotional disabilities. They do not want to be loud and aggressive, they just cannot help it and they also cannot stop to complain and feel offended by everything.
Do we really need the vocal minority to harrass the rest of the forums community AND Staff over a lie? And let’s be honest, this is and was always about zergs ganking lowbies. Nothing against that at all, but there is more important things for the adults to focus on atm. Do you mean like the pve players harrased the devs to remove pvp too and then they added more pve for you so we shouldnt voice our opinions because we can flag? You clearly dont look at the full picture.
Pvp servers would have completely different economies and ways of playing due to gathering having to be done while flagged allowing more competitive resource choking “the way this game was actually designed was around PVP they just changed there mind because many pvers crying to streamer on on forums now you have the same situation but with pvpers very amusing.” Please do tell me what you plan to do at 600 gs after you have already farmed the same dungeon 50 times." as there is no other content left to do so you will quit? then what for the game? pvp keeps it alive between patchs.
Wow, what a constructive thread. Such accurate generalisations.
Since the lack of nice suggestions around, I’ll give the secret on being a nice person and being respected for it since it seem it would be rather beneficial to stop and think about it for a second for most peeps;
Use empathy a lot and help anyone get to enjoy what they want to do to enjoy themselves regardless if your idea of joy is the same or opposite to theirs and don’t spread over your bad experiences onto others that had no part of it by generalising a huge number of people as “x people are this and that” so they don’t get unfairly treated for things that they didn’t had any part in ie; if big meanie pvper calls you carebear and trashtalks, isolate the issue and don’t carry that over to everyone.
During Alpha we simply stopped playing because that was not the type of game we wanted. Once the devs realized that we were leaving faster than they could send out invites then they decided to change the game.
It’s hard to not realize that you made a mistake when you can’t get people to play your game for free…
in EU there is already a server chosen by the PvP community for PvP and it is the server with the largest amount of players. Check the forum and you´ll find out which server it is. There is also an ongoing project to check for a second one. For other regions there are probably also other servers.
AGS won´t activate full PvP servers, but [in my opinion] it would be easier for everybody (also for PvE oriented players), if they would flag some new and almost empty servers as “PvP oriented servers”.
The end game of New World consists of PvP and also PvE, so it is normal that players want to make sure they do not end in a server, where almost all the players left after 3 months, because no new PvE content has been added + they do not want to participate in PvP.
Have said the same, and it would work. (a PvP designated server, as they did in EU).
We all know that most of the loudest complainers want to gank/grief, but a PvP server could and should happen, since some of the PvPers who have spoken up actually want more often and ‘fair’ PvP.
I’d make my 2nd char on that server. I like my current server a lot (Orefena) and it is PvP active, but the challenge of leveling on a PvP flagged 24/7 server would be enjoyable.
Love the posts that bring nothing and are made like " Hell yea, now I’m gonna write something without any sense".
Just like the posts that were made to poke poor full loot people, while no one wanted full loot, but still people were like " oh yea, where is your full loot now?!" - Still no one wanted that…
Because of such people the PVP game has become a PVE game. So you can congratulate yourself for being one of those that destroyed what people anticipated for years.
But no worries I’m on your side. The awesome experience of PVE on 60 level keeps me amazed all the time and I love the depth of PVE events, bosses and much more we got.
And now being serious - I have faith in people so I do believe you are just trolling around, knowing that devastating of PVP core of the game and various mechanics providing depth to every aspect of the game including PVE, was the real reason behind people not doing PVP, because it’s shallow street food festival with a lot of LMB and skill spam.
Frankly, I saw few people marked on PVP for no reason, so weird they haven’t given up on that part of game yet.
You can PVP all the time if u want to. But wait, when complainers have pvp mode on all the time, they can be ganked just like they would like to do on lower lvls right? This is the point, not more not less.
“PVP needs to be consensual, every serious PvPer wants a challenge and a fair fight.
Everyone else ist just a bully. Unfortunately there is more bullys than PvPers.”
I don’t agree with this. And before you call me a bully - my reason is this:
I want to chop trees and do quests in a hostile environment. I want the constant threat of being attacked, and I know I’m not always going to be ready for it. It will not always be a fair fight.
Competitive players PVE and PVP alike will not willingly put themseves in a situation where they are at a disadvantage.
This does not mean a PVP server would not have value on the New World community. Having this kind of server and just one of them per region would suffice.
Back the the main point. As a PVPer if im flagged up and have been fighting the same people on the server at launch and I get to know some of these people as PVPers I wouldnt be suprised to see them unflagged when they are out doing something like harvesting or in myrkguard. Even though now I can kinda poke some fun at them for it they definately know its lame to do these things unflagged as a PVP player but dying while doing these things would put them at a disadvantage.
Having a server doesn’t give them the urge or feel the need to unflag in order to keep up with players. Everyone is shared in that harsh existence and in the struggle. Its part of the fun at that point and there is no disadvantage anymore, everyone is on even ground. You can contest farming routes now, You can contest mob spawns now. You can add a dynamic layer for all PVE aspects of the game.
Just because you dont see someone flagged open world absolutely does not mean they wouldnt play a PVP server.
This game is not hardcore and a PVP server would be loads of fun in this game because since there isnt really a penalty to dying the little things become the reward, like fighting over a iron node. Or fighting over skinning the bear.
Progression is slower for people as a whole on these servers but reaching the end on these servers is 100x more rewarding to US than it is in an environment where we dont have to risk anything to stay ahead.
@OP Attacking a playstyle preference is cringe and hypocritical in nature. Just because its something you would not enjoy does not mean people are wrong for believing it.
Yes they are and anyone complaining about PvP servers is an actual moron.
DON’T PLAY PVP SERVERS IF YOU DON’T WANT TO.
The rest of us that want to play PvP servers would like the option. PvE players complaining about PvP servers is hilarious.
You know what you guys are afraid of? That 90% of players will play PvP servers because it’s better, and you guys will be left on dead servers. Well, guess what, suck it up.
Absolutely don’t see you as a bully for this, and I totally get the thrill and sense of fear that this can create. But the very fact that you said “and that’s fun for me” and it’s something that you want is a way of giving your consent to it. But for some, the real “Thrill” of the game is hitting 200 in a crafting skill, or getting that rare fish. And for some of them having to look over their shoulder instead of looking at their fishing isn’t fun. I really hope you, myself, and others, can find a way to all have the game we want and enjoy without it taking away from the game others want and enjoy, and from your post it certainly seems you not only aren’t a bully, but are actually reasonable about different people wanting different things. Happy hunting.
Me “giving my consent to it” would be choosing to play on a PvP server in the first place. In the same way that people who don’t enjoy that would be able to continue playing the game as it is now by not transferring to a PvP server.
And this is where a lot of misunderstanding comes from. You won’t find many PvPers who don’t also enjoy these things. I see many posts claiming that PvP servers “won’t have an economy” because there’s no one to chop wood or craft things. They seem to believe PvPers just want to run around mindlessly killing each other - but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
I spend 90% of my time doing crafting or gathering. I just really like how much more alive the world feels when enemy factions are actually…you know…enemies
Oh, I agree with you completely. And I truly hope I didn’t offend you. Most of the players I play with are PvPers, and although I don’t enjoy it, we all still have a great time playing together. And they all gather, craft, we even had a friendly competition to see who could level up fishing the fastest. Most PvP players I’ve known, here and elsewhere, are just as engaged in other aspects of the game as PvE players. Maybe not as focused on house decorating as some hard core RPers, but who is? (Full disclosure, I spend a ton of time re-arranging the decorations in my house and love RP, so no insult intended there). And I also agree that because of that the idea that a PvP server would fail due to lack of crafters, economy, etc. is unfounded.
The real misunderstanding was on my part, in that I thought you were suggesting that you didn’t agree that the PvP ought to be consensual. I do believe that the idea that the bullies outnumber the PvPers is false. In my experience, that is completely untrue and most PvPers I have encountered are just as likely to be good decent people/players as anyone else.
And trust me, I get this. I live in city that changed the spelling of it’s name about a dozen times over a few decades depending on whether it was held by the English or the French. Turns out, almost three centuries later, the two sides here still carry a few grudges.
