Arena Experience So Far

So basically what you saying is that pay $$$ to the people who carry you for the gold that you handled to them last time they boosted you for Umbrals. Seems like a good strat for umbral boosters to flip the same coins over and over while getting paid in $$$ while doing so  Hilarious

@BobsynS Ultimately that is the point and the META for gearing in New World atm. Or you can spend 1,000+ hours grinding gear for your character the loser way. The choice is ultimately yours.

No mate. I have made my choice to login twice a week for an hour and not even bother with gear progression anymore despite i have 3x weapons at 625 and 1x armor set at around 620…
The strict acquisition of Umbral shards gated behind annoying 5man dungeon that takes abysmal effort even with coordinated group ( what’s left for random people found off the global chat ). Unless they give players alternative ways to obtain Umbral shards, I am not coming back to play and care about gear anymore. The amount of shards you get from Gypsum is absurd to begin with based on the time required to get Gypsum orbs in the first place… No thanks lul. And since I do not care about gear progressions what’s out there left for me to care about? Nothing - everyone has max trade skills, so that being said I am not even motivated to grind trade skills either… It’s not like I am gonna reach a point where my team time invested into trade skills will pay off in any way… It won’t simply because thousands of players are already 200+ in most trade skills.

Difference between 600 and 625 is minimal. Doesnt mean anything for PvP arenas. Makes you wonder why would you bother leveling to 625 in the first place and i have over 20+ sets of 625 armor and weapons for all classes. Eveything about NW is unbalanced.

That what you just said should be illegal for any MMO. There is not a single MMO out there I can think of right now that allows a single character to have highest grade armors and weapons for ALL available classes in the game given the fact that NW hasn’t hit even a year yet after release. That’s probably the only thing I trully hate about NW. All characters to be everything and no one literally have an identity within the world of the game.

Oh this again…

So he shouldn’t (and how did you even think to put the word “illegal” in there anyway?) be able train all the weapons to 20? Since, if he can, it immediately follows that it should be fine to leve appropriate sets to use with those weapons.

It’s the general concept in MMO’s to have a player to choose his specialization. It’s what makes MMO’s interesting in the first place… to choose whether you wanna be healer or dps or archer or mage or else… I haven’t paid much attention to this important detail from the get go. But once i reached level 60 myself I suddenly realized that freedom for players to be all spec in everything is not quite what I am looking for.
It’s discouraging for me to specialize in something when everyone has it. It’s discouraging as well for me to want to specialize in some trade skill if I know that everyone has it… What’s the point to be EXPERT in something when… being AN EXPERT in it only means that you are like everyone else? I really do not get the point why should I call myself in global chat “melee dps looking for party for mut5” - when literally as the man himself up there described that he can be all sort of classes and specs at the same time… What is my place in this world as a melee… when everyone is a melee as well ? DO you understand what I am trying to say ?

I will try to explain:
I want to know that me specializing in Melee type of DPS will mean that I am specialized in this specific thing with other handful of people. I do not want healers to have my specs nor I have a healing spec myself. I chose to be a melee and I want to be recognizable.
I want to know that grinding to become an Expert in Mining for example will mean that only me and handful of people who chose to be Miners as well are the only ones who are Expert in this.
I want to know that grinding Jewelry will mean that only ME and handful of people who chose to be Jewelers as well are the only ones who are Expert in this.

Do you understand how that provides meaning for everything in this game whether is trade skill or weapon skill or else ?

It is, and NW decided not to follow the herd a couple of years ago. None of what you’re ranting about on this specific subject is new.

Then you’re playing the wrong game.

Then you’re playing the wrong game.

Then you’re playing the wrong game.

Here’s what I understand; I’ve been playing MMOs since the beta of Asheron’s Call. You know what’s kind of funny about that? Asheron’s Call was essentially classless and it most assuredly was not built on the Trinity archetype. You chose your stats, and stat allocations…but you could absolutely be a jack of all trades. One of the first MMOs was done this way, it worked then and it works now. It’s simply not what you’re used to or what you like.

Here’s what else I understand; I do like this design choice. I like that, if I invest the time, I can be anything in this game I choose…or everything.

Yeah and when you look around you and see that everyone is everything… How would that make you feel?

Or may be NW is categorized in the wrong MMORPG section? From experience in MMO’s I can tell you that identity MMO’s that focus on making your choice unique and not something mediocre that after 2 months everyone will be the same is what makes those games interesting in the first place.

Simply because all players that have chosen to be something in the virtual world are actually unique and only them and the ones that chose the same thing are similar. Everyone else is different. The diversity is what makes MMO’s unique genre. It’s what makes MMO’s fun for the community to play because they need each other to fulfill the gameplay. In NW all I can see is that after 1 year a small group of 5 players wouldn’t need anyone else and they can simply play local TCP/IP version of an MMO. It’s not a position you want to put the MMO players in.

What MMORPG sections are there? It’s an MMORPG. I just happens to be an MMORPG with a progression system you don’t like. So…ok…I guess it’s in the “MMORPGs whose progression system BobsynS doesn’t like.” category.

How would? You mean “How does”, since that’s the game we’re playing. How does it make me feel? It makes me feel good to see other people being able to be what they want to be and not pigeonholed into narrow specializations.

So you are saying that MMO community do like to be everything? It does not align with the fact that you choose your starting class, does it?
The reason why people play MMO’s in the first place is choose their identity and play alongside other people with different identity… Or am I mistaken?
I personally dislike the fact that I am forced to specialize in War Hammer for entering mutations in Lazarus Instrumentality. The game even forces me to have all weapon specs because it seems the Instances do favor different weapon/armor choices more than others. So you might say it’s good for you to have a choice to be everything, but on the other hand I do not like that the game forces me to switch off my desired weapon into something I would never choose to play with - ONLY because the game CHOSE instead of me that if I want to succeed in mut10 Laz I should spec into WH build. Amazing… So it turns out that I chose WHAT I WANTED TO PLAY but game SAID NO - YOU PLAY WITH THIS PERIOD.

The fact that you only have 2-3 weapons choice for high level mutations despite your OWN choice of weapons/armors isn’t what you said it is ? – > pigeonholed into narrow specializations CHOSEN from the game BUT NOT YOU ?

Just wondering if you don’t buy an emote because you didn’t have the salt for it and move onto the next track can you NEVER get that emote again?

Sadly this is true. This is the option the game gives players who dont want to spam mutated expeditions.

Maybe someone else can answer for you. I’m not that far along. Level 6 atm.

Yeah so they chose not to follow the pattern of all previous successful mmo’s and try to reinvent stuff for a genre that was massive in terms of interest and player base and seeing the last 10 years of companies trying to Reinvent the genre only resulted in massive decline towards MMO’s simply because it was proven what was working but for some reason no one follows the already established proven to work ideas, instead they are trying to reinvent the wheel?

Why do you think League of Legends / Fortnite / CS : GO are so successful even when their core design, concept and ideas were invented more than 20 years ago? And it used to work and it still works apparently.
League of Legends is entirely based on the custom Dota/Moba maps in Warcraft 3.
Fortnite is based on the Deathmatch experience in CS:GO / Quake series / Half-life series with the only difference that you pick up weapons around the map instead of buying them from the shop at the start of the match. Fortnite is just more of an Arcade shooter than a standard one we can all see but the basic concept is the same as all shooters in the early 2000’s.
Counter-Strike series started off as a private mod from 2 young IT’s fans of Half-Life that created the first itteration of Counter-Strike as Mod for Half-Life which them 2 later on were hired by Valve and the story begins. The game is still the same as it has always been, just more in-depth maps, utilization of new coding designs and better graphics who mainly focus on performance not fancy looks.

Also one of the reasons why PvP in most newer MMO’s suck hard it’s because games are not optimized for performance. Any PvP in any genre should prioritize performance. It’s essentially the most important thing when you battle vs other players especially when the combat outcome lies behind split-second real-time decisions players have to make.

This could be the idea after all. Not like many other companies didn’t do that before  Or like every mobile game out there  ( click to build for 72 hours OR click HERE to build NOW for only $2 )

I’m not that jaded yet. I do think they have some devs with mobile games background over there though who believe in fruitless game play loops that consume large amounts of time is the way to keep an active player base.

That assertion may be true but that active player base as we’ve seen is minute who will tolerate that compared to the vast population of potential players and customers who won’t. And who have and will set the game down until reasonable gear progression systems are instituted.

Keeping active player base can’t be kept with fruitless game play loops. The fun aspect of these loops matters the most. Very few people would play a game repeating 5000 loops of unfun and dissatisfying game play just so they can reach X thing at the end when it comes to a game. Many have tried and none succeeds. The only one succeeds are the ones providing you meaningful joyful experience within the loops.

In the past decade even players are focusing too much on what they gain at the end, what’s their gear score, how many of X things they have farmed… etc… That’s not important. I can give you all an example of a brilliant pvp MMO that was superior and full of fun experience that was destroyed by it’s own developers when they started with endless meaningless loops with X amount of reward 15 times a day forcing every player to do it simply because It was the only way to progress. This game is called ArcheAge. During 2014-2016 before patch 2.5 the game was amazing and fun with 1 downside - pay 2 win. Instead of pushing subscription-only model ( it used to be free-to-play with optional Sub but it really wasn’t optional if you wanted to actually play the game) and removing pay 2 win aspects of their own ( which was the right call to ensure game will grow even more ) they made the wrong call to keep the p2w aspect and force alternative way for players to progress if they choose not to p2w - which was massive crash of the game. Since the alternative way they delivered was exactly what mobile games deliver - endless loop of meaningless content to get X reward at the end of it. Given the numbers and all packed with it - every player that did not want to spend cash for gold/items had to sit in chain of meaningless game play scenarios 10 hours a day to obtain X reward that upgrades their gear.

I seriously still do not understand why mmo developers does not use the subscription model. The history of WoW proves that its working.
