Arena Experience So Far

It is, and NW decided not to follow the herd a couple of years ago. None of what you’re ranting about on this specific subject is new.

Then you’re playing the wrong game.

Then you’re playing the wrong game.

Then you’re playing the wrong game.

Here’s what I understand; I’ve been playing MMOs since the beta of Asheron’s Call. You know what’s kind of funny about that? Asheron’s Call was essentially classless and it most assuredly was not built on the Trinity archetype. You chose your stats, and stat allocations…but you could absolutely be a jack of all trades. One of the first MMOs was done this way, it worked then and it works now. It’s simply not what you’re used to or what you like.

Here’s what else I understand; I do like this design choice. I like that, if I invest the time, I can be anything in this game I choose…or everything.

Yeah and when you look around you and see that everyone is everything… How would that make you feel?

Or may be NW is categorized in the wrong MMORPG section? From experience in MMO’s I can tell you that identity MMO’s that focus on making your choice unique and not something mediocre that after 2 months everyone will be the same is what makes those games interesting in the first place.

Simply because all players that have chosen to be something in the virtual world are actually unique and only them and the ones that chose the same thing are similar. Everyone else is different. The diversity is what makes MMO’s unique genre. It’s what makes MMO’s fun for the community to play because they need each other to fulfill the gameplay. In NW all I can see is that after 1 year a small group of 5 players wouldn’t need anyone else and they can simply play local TCP/IP version of an MMO. It’s not a position you want to put the MMO players in.

What MMORPG sections are there? It’s an MMORPG. I just happens to be an MMORPG with a progression system you don’t like. So…ok…I guess it’s in the “MMORPGs whose progression system BobsynS doesn’t like.” category.

How would? You mean “How does”, since that’s the game we’re playing. How does it make me feel? It makes me feel good to see other people being able to be what they want to be and not pigeonholed into narrow specializations.

So you are saying that MMO community do like to be everything? It does not align with the fact that you choose your starting class, does it?
The reason why people play MMO’s in the first place is choose their identity and play alongside other people with different identity… Or am I mistaken?
I personally dislike the fact that I am forced to specialize in War Hammer for entering mutations in Lazarus Instrumentality. The game even forces me to have all weapon specs because it seems the Instances do favor different weapon/armor choices more than others. So you might say it’s good for you to have a choice to be everything, but on the other hand I do not like that the game forces me to switch off my desired weapon into something I would never choose to play with - ONLY because the game CHOSE instead of me that if I want to succeed in mut10 Laz I should spec into WH build. Amazing… So it turns out that I chose WHAT I WANTED TO PLAY but game SAID NO - YOU PLAY WITH THIS PERIOD.

The fact that you only have 2-3 weapons choice for high level mutations despite your OWN choice of weapons/armors isn’t what you said it is ? – > pigeonholed into narrow specializations CHOSEN from the game BUT NOT YOU ?

Just wondering if you don’t buy an emote because you didn’t have the salt for it and move onto the next track can you NEVER get that emote again?

Sadly this is true. This is the option the game gives players who dont want to spam mutated expeditions.

Maybe someone else can answer for you. I’m not that far along. Level 6 atm.

Yeah so they chose not to follow the pattern of all previous successful mmo’s and try to reinvent stuff for a genre that was massive in terms of interest and player base and seeing the last 10 years of companies trying to Reinvent the genre only resulted in massive decline towards MMO’s simply because it was proven what was working but for some reason no one follows the already established proven to work ideas, instead they are trying to reinvent the wheel?

Why do you think League of Legends / Fortnite / CS : GO are so successful even when their core design, concept and ideas were invented more than 20 years ago? And it used to work and it still works apparently.
League of Legends is entirely based on the custom Dota/Moba maps in Warcraft 3.
Fortnite is based on the Deathmatch experience in CS:GO / Quake series / Half-life series with the only difference that you pick up weapons around the map instead of buying them from the shop at the start of the match. Fortnite is just more of an Arcade shooter than a standard one we can all see but the basic concept is the same as all shooters in the early 2000’s.
Counter-Strike series started off as a private mod from 2 young IT’s fans of Half-Life that created the first itteration of Counter-Strike as Mod for Half-Life which them 2 later on were hired by Valve and the story begins. The game is still the same as it has always been, just more in-depth maps, utilization of new coding designs and better graphics who mainly focus on performance not fancy looks.

Also one of the reasons why PvP in most newer MMO’s suck hard it’s because games are not optimized for performance. Any PvP in any genre should prioritize performance. It’s essentially the most important thing when you battle vs other players especially when the combat outcome lies behind split-second real-time decisions players have to make.

This could be the idea after all. Not like many other companies didn’t do that before  Or like every mobile game out there  ( click to build for 72 hours OR click HERE to build NOW for only $2 )

I’m not that jaded yet. I do think they have some devs with mobile games background over there though who believe in fruitless game play loops that consume large amounts of time is the way to keep an active player base.

That assertion may be true but that active player base as we’ve seen is minute who will tolerate that compared to the vast population of potential players and customers who won’t. And who have and will set the game down until reasonable gear progression systems are instituted.

Keeping active player base can’t be kept with fruitless game play loops. The fun aspect of these loops matters the most. Very few people would play a game repeating 5000 loops of unfun and dissatisfying game play just so they can reach X thing at the end when it comes to a game. Many have tried and none succeeds. The only one succeeds are the ones providing you meaningful joyful experience within the loops.

In the past decade even players are focusing too much on what they gain at the end, what’s their gear score, how many of X things they have farmed… etc… That’s not important. I can give you all an example of a brilliant pvp MMO that was superior and full of fun experience that was destroyed by it’s own developers when they started with endless meaningless loops with X amount of reward 15 times a day forcing every player to do it simply because It was the only way to progress. This game is called ArcheAge. During 2014-2016 before patch 2.5 the game was amazing and fun with 1 downside - pay 2 win. Instead of pushing subscription-only model ( it used to be free-to-play with optional Sub but it really wasn’t optional if you wanted to actually play the game) and removing pay 2 win aspects of their own ( which was the right call to ensure game will grow even more ) they made the wrong call to keep the p2w aspect and force alternative way for players to progress if they choose not to p2w - which was massive crash of the game. Since the alternative way they delivered was exactly what mobile games deliver - endless loop of meaningless content to get X reward at the end of it. Given the numbers and all packed with it - every player that did not want to spend cash for gold/items had to sit in chain of meaningless game play scenarios 10 hours a day to obtain X reward that upgrades their gear.

I seriously still do not understand why mmo developers does not use the subscription model. The history of WoW proves that its working.

In New World’s case though with the lack of content not enough would have paid for a sub past Nov. The game didnt launch clean and with enough content to support that model.

The game has some content out there. The sad part is that a lot of things regarding inventory management, determining what materials are used for what purpose, the hundreds of unique crafting mods, the hundreds of unique arcana items … simply makes all of it seems so complicated to any beginner user that it actually discourages you to even wanting to deal with it. I simply do not understand why they can’t just simplify everything into 10 unique crafting perks - 5 for attributes and 5 for ( str, dex, int, foc, cons) based weapons. Then just alternate the number of required items per craft… for example if you wanna choose a great axe perk of higher tier ( gravity well ) it could require you 100x strength based crafting perks instead of only 5x for if you wanna use some low-quality perks instead like some trash thing no one cares about.
Having diversity does NOT necessarily mean that you need to overcomplicate stuff that it’s more annoying to deal with than actually trying to learn and understand. Also the names of these crafting perks are so confusing sometimes that I just do not want to craft. There is no way I would ever sit down and memorize them all.
Inventory management is at bad state. There is so many things that are overcomplicated for the players for example the inability to set your own desired way of categorizing items within the inventory. I myself do not want to have just ARMOR / WEAPON tags in the inventory system. How do I actually manage my 10 different sets of weapons and armor the way I want them to managed in order for me to be easier to work it? I can’t. I simply can’t - All I can do is just watch them 100 items randomly sorted by GS or whatever that at the end of the day none of this sorting options is any useful for most players.

Yeah, they really went crazy with all of the itemization. They didnt have a use for a ton of gatherables so they made eight of them required to craft the consumable needed for Amber gypsum I think is the one as an example.

Yesterday I hit the storage cap globally. I started looking to sell off things to free up space. A problem I’m seeing is due to the bad in game economy for gear a lot of other products and materials don’t sell well.

I collected 2k worth of cooking stuff I had saved up from world tours. I made 1,200 Hearty Meals yesterday and gave half away free. The other I put up on AH. We get an absurd amount of food from chests like it is still a survival game. It should have been ditched and consolidated. I’d also settle for a generalist gatherer set and ditch all of the others. I gather all sorts of things whrn gathering. I dont sit anlt one ironwood group and wait. Though with teleporting being a non factor now it is more viable to warp around to various farm spots of the same type.

On the other hand I have zero Orange Infused Regeneration pots. I use these a lot for pvp and theyre selling for around $15/per. Half the reason players die more than others in pvp is that they cant afford to use consumables to stay alive in OPR and/or wars.

I purchased a Medium potions kit reward from level 12 or 3 of the pvp reward track. It gave a couple crafting mods and (1) Infused Regeneration Potion. I repeat, 1. Some dev has the spirit of their 1950’s grandma living in their body and guiding these lousy rewards for this game. The gear is good coming out of Arena pvp track (though we need a lot more options for non-Constitution gear choices. We can only use a couple CON gear items and the rest have to be of our dps attributrle.

The addition of Ori and starmetal is a great addition. They need to give players a lot more Infused Regen Pots out somewhere though. Ill have to work up my Arcana.

Lmao I actually like how the announcer sounds. :joy:

My personal opinion is that all sort of potions - regeneration or flat out burst potions should be crafted only. Makes no sense to have them both looted and crafted. Unless there is some crazy dev that can simulate economy and adjust numbers for both… it ends up one destroying the other. In most cases crafting suffers. For my generic game play so far I haven’t end up in need to craft any sort of food or potion aside from luxury like weapon buffs ( honing stones ), coatings… which are essentially just luxury and a bit of help to do a dungeon faster. For pvp most of these buffs are probably essential but given the drop rates of HP/MP potions I haven’t seen a case where you would need to craft or buy crafted ones. 90%+ of the potions aside from Regeneration potions on the TP are looted which directly nullifies the need of crafting them in the first place.

But in order to promote crafting to be the main source of supply for any sort of potions etc. Crafting system somehow needs to be simplified because at this point is one giant mess and most people probably does not want to deal with it to save trouble digging into this mess. It’s annoying.

Yes, honestly the only time I touch Arcana crafting is to free up storage space or if I have a specific neednfor something I can make quickly. If I can’t I just buy it. There are too many random materials. I’m sure that appeals to people but its a turn off for me for cooking and Arcana.

The stacks are so small and the base fees so high that trying to sell a lot of thr mats isn’t worth thr time. The base fee AGS assigns should be reduced or removed. A loy of the mats in the game aren’t profitablr to sell and it isn’t thr player assigned taxes that are the issue some.

Look I like the crafting in this game besides the rng gacha. I’m actually okay with all of the mats beside ls not having enough space to store it all. Im nearly capped nownglobally at all times.

Im planning on crafting during the xp bonis period to work my levels up and clean out my storage space which should help.

Some matsnlike Corrupted Ward, I went to look to buy one on Valhalla today. There isn’t a single one listed on the market. Some ofbthese trophies even with all of the WT’s going on are one or two decimal spots too rare.

Yeah overall these little things do matter a lot. It’s better to have fewer things obtained but meaningful. After my dozens of chest runs myself I got a loaded dice and instead of being excited for it I almost felt just relief. Relief of finally getting something that I won’t just stash for no purpose at all or throw away. Relief that I can finally slow down on these chests runs just so i won’t have to repeatedly salvage thousands of useless gear pieces. Some devs seems to not understand that you don’t need thousand different drops and materials. You simply don’t.
I have been farming in other games a lot and the ones that i like the most were the ones that didn’t fill up my inventory every 30minutes with useless stuff instead getting few things but all meaningful. And by the time you find the rare thing you haven’t burnt out due to frustration of having to deal with nonsense inventory fillers. And when that happens you actually feel excited and joyful.

It’s like there is some sort of logic that they think what makes Path of Exile a popular game is the number of countless drops you pick up and salvage. No… these meaningless thousand of drops in PoE are also frustrating to deal it if ever played the game yourself. Not everything is what it looks like it is. Just because PoE is successful and popular that does not mean that their design based around 2 billion items on the ground is actually good. No it is not!

Good points. I did try PoE a week or two ago due to guild interest. It didnt take for me. I’m not interested in mob grinders and the loot and gearing system with the random gems I didn’t care for. I think doing combat for the first couple of hours only using one button was a deal breaker for me

Albion online is the game with my favorite economy, gearing, and loot system. Ive been dying on this hill but I believe if New World copied their system it would be a wildly popular gamegoing forward with most of the major server issues resolved.
