Assistance with hot CPU

NW has had issues with running CPU (Ryzen 2700X) quite hot since day one even while sitting at low usage (30%ish). I was able to tweak game settings and get it in the low 80’s, and that’s where I left it.

This patch, however, the problem got much worse. Today I monitored and saw spikes as high as 92C. I restarted the game, same thing. As an experiment, I reduced max processor power down to 99% and immediately the temps dropped into the 60’s.

This is far beyond my hardware expertise. I can say it’s not my cooling, because I can stress test my CPU at 100% and my temps stay under 75C. I do not overclock or under/over voltage, it’s stock.

Help me understand:

  • Why a CPU in a low usage state would be overheating when the cooling is tested and shown to work well
  • 2, why would throttling the processor power resolve the issue?
  • And most importantly 3, is there a better solution?

Hi @Asri.

Hope you’re doing okay :raised_hands:

I’m sorry about the issue you’re experiencing, that CPU usage certainly is not normal, given that your CPU has plenty of power to run the game without any issues.

Please make sure to have the DxDiag ready once you reach support, you can pull it following this steps:

DxDiag report:

Go to Windows Start search bar and type dxdiag.

Click on dxdiag.exe.

When green progress bar goes away, select Save All Information and save the file to their desktop.

Also please make sure you send this link to the agent so we can help you to investigate this issue, also give them all the information needed. And please let me know how was it!

New World is a CPU bound game. It push the CPU to its limits. Do be afraid. Its ok. CPUs can handle these temps.

AMD says 85C is max operating temp, so I’m going to stick with that.

Plus, my CPU is usage is actually fairly low at 30%.

Have the same CPU, and never really had issues out of NW with it.

GPU, on the other hand, does run a bit hot. Can play more graphicly taxing games, and they don’t make it run as hot as NW does.

Nothing that’ll destroy it, but enough to where I’m like wtf.

CPU cooler, may just be needing some cleaning.

i would apply new thermal paste if possible

My GPU (3070) is totally fine, which seems to be the opposite of others’ issues.

My CPU cooling performs like a champ in stress tests, but I do clean it out all my fans and inside every 3 months or so. Yes, I’ve reinstalled and even deleted and rebuilt my game cache. I don’t have any heat issues in any other games. It makes no sense to me.

With the 99% power throttle everything is running smooth and cool at max video 1440 100fps. (I run an aggressive fan curve.) It’s a solution for now, but an off one.
