Attributes and perks need to be less random

The loot in the game is trash. If something happens to drop, it almost always has nonsensical attributes and poor perks. To fix random drops/crafts:

  • Weapons can only drop with their scaling attributes and constitution (Spear → Str, Dex, Con)
  • Attributes determine the list of rollable perks (Focus → VG and LS perks)
  • Remove perks where it doesn’t make sense (Hated on LS/focus gear)
  • A crafter can craft whatever attribute/perk combination they want by forcing the attribute/perks

If you guys like the suggestion, please comment and bump. It is clear that AGS won’t bother reviewing posts unless they have a significant number of comments.

Edit:
A lot of people have said that they want the ability to get off meta picks, like an int scaling GA. I propose that patterns should allow the player to select the perk and attribute as well.

Beyond this, I am not sure what can be done to ensure it is not more difficult to craft unique off-meta items. Suggestions would be helpful!

agree.
this is one of the next big things that need to be improved, right after getting rid of timegates and orbs.
plus desync, weaponswitch, overall combat clunkiness and permanent staggering.

thanks for this thread.

This would actually make loots less junky and more interesting to keep until something better can be acquired. Nice suggestion mate!

Thanks Cyd. I agree, this isn’t high priority behind the things you listed. Hopefully my suggestion is easy to implement.

sorry, it wasn’t meant to diminish what you said.
it is a high priority problem, no doubt. the longer you play and the more loot you see, the more frustrating it gets.
i can still remember how sad i was when i started to salvage my legendary drops. some were so bad, i just couldn’t list them in the TP for a couple hundred coins.

there are just so many things that need to be improved, and with a heavy heart i have to admit that i am losing patience and motivation.

they said they understand that combat needs to feel more responsive and snappier, yet here we are, and combat feels more clunky than ever.
they said we will be able to run Expeditions/Mutations more frequently, yet here we are with the same old grind and a measly couple mutation orbs per week.

i really do believe the Devs want to make the game better, and are trying to build back trust with the playerbase.
but there are already so many lost opportunites, and so much time wasted.

Yup, 100% agree. It would still leave things to be random, but not to the degree where it is next to impossible to get a drop suiting your needs.

It’s designed to be super random.

Here are the reasons:

  1. Less effort from the devs. You might also notice the legendary items with fixed perks usually suck even worse because someone on the team actually selected the perks

  2. Creates treadmill so you have to keep looting, gathering, crafting until you get something with a decent roll

  3. They must think players enjoy RNG

But the truth is:

Nearly all of the perks are really really bad. Like reinforced?!? That’s gotta be the worst perk in the history of gear perks, it’s literally trash. Any luck perk? On combat equipment? Absolutely useless. On kill perks? Mostly useless. Anything that gives a potential proc that’s time-locked to be up less than 33% of the time - useless. Most of the elemental or bane perks? Useless except in very specific circumstances. And the special weapon ability perks? 25% of them don’t work, 50% of them are just plain bad, and 25% are actually decent. Any weapon ability perk on a stat item that would never use that weapon, useless.

So much useless.

I disagree with forced stats on weapons, but very much agree on making certain perk combinations impossible to get on one drop (aslong as they are still craftable).

This might seem weird, but the level of customization this game allows, even if its not meta is interesting to me.

I had a company member try to make an Ice Gauntlet/Great Axe with int/con, now obviously this might sound insane, but great axe with some great tools such as grav well and charge can be very useful to an ice mage, and the gem will make up for half of the lost damage on the Great axe. I dont think it was particularly good, no surprise there. But I would love to see similarily creative builds, and for that I think off stats on weapons can stay, even if I get the frustration.

I agree. This should be done for the random rolls, but crafters should still have the option to experiment.

  • If an item drops, it should adhere to the proposal
  • If a crafter wants to craft an item with specific perks, they are free to do so
  • Anything the crafter leaves up to chance will adhere to the proposal

If the player wants an Int GA, they can force the attribute when crafting, but they cant get an Int GA when crafting/looting a random GA.

If the crafter wants to get really creative, with mismatching attributes and perks on an armor piece, then there is an issue. If they select Int as the attribute, they won’t get a great-axe perk unless they force it with a shard.

Im a STR/INT/CON build and most in STR/INT. I am normally top 10 in OPR and 1 vs 1 I rarely lose. I think people are too often putting themselves into pigeonholing builds. You dont have to. The INT gem helps tremendously and so does the FOC Gem.

I mean since the added shards the attribute problem is not that problematic. Also, you can use perk mods with shards.

But, yeah or that OnKill-Perk giving Mana for no Mana-using weapons. Yet, I can understand the argumentation for trash perks.

We can’t have weapons dropping with only their scaling stat or it ruins builds. A full INT Firemage who wants a great axe with INT gem as offhand for an example. Not going to want STR in their build. But for names fixed stat items, those need to be done better then they are.

What if you want to build a Pally Build and want hated on your LS

What does all this matter when they cant even fix things like the increasing amount of bots in the game, stuttering, ridiculous amount of bugs… the list goes on

Btw no matter what AGS might say this game is still in EA

Yes please

Just completely remove hated off of everything except sword and shield.

100% agree that most of your drops should be in correlation with your fixed attributes, like me, I only run con and int. My drops should be occultist, scholar, or sentry. ESPECIALLY anything thats bind on pickup. Maybe 50% chance to get a BOE that is with your set attributes, and 100% chance for anything that’s BOP, that isn’t a named weapon or jewlery drop. Like you probably still wouldn’t want a infamy or will of the ancients dropping with strength on it.

I don’t understand why this is even a thing

Interesting doesn’t mean good.

Dex items with lifestaff perks makes no sense
Muskets with mana on kill makes no sense
Focus pants with some shooter stance stuff makes no sense.

If they released weapons that complimented those combos sure but they don’t and it’s cluttering/padding the loot pool.

It doesnt make sense for Meta builds.

I want INT with Sword perks. I love running Ice Gauntlet/SnS. I run 100% INT build with an INT gem in my sword. Its a beast of a build. So much of a beast that I actually stopped playing it because it felt like easy mode.

Now I run Spear/FS and 100% in INT. I want INT gear, with dex spear stuff like bleeding sweep and keen vault kick. Its a beast too.

I am finding as I test damage and test the builds that I can do better than most running uncommon builds.

Meta is NOT the only way.

My spear does 1161 dmg on light attacks with an INT gem. Without the INT gem I average 607dmg on light attacks. A simple int gem makes a STR weapon viable with an INT build. They made those gems for a reason.

I hate LS or Id test those builds with an amber gem too. LS is just too boring to me though.

I don’t think you understand and that’s okay.
