[Aurora Project] Changes in Gathering / Farming

> [Aurora Project] What New World could become <

Greetings to all.

The so-called “Aurora Project” is a set of ideas divided into several Post, where they will be treated individually and precisely. It is very important to understand that these suggestions are my way of understanding and improving New World, and that of course any other opinion is totally valid as well. I ask for the maximum possible respect in these Posts that I am going to discuss, and if anyone wants to comment, I would ask you, please, that they read the entire Project, all Post with the Tag “[Aurora Project]” and written by me: “Lobo_Necrodes”, to understand its objective.

More Posts will be added over time and with new ideas. I accept contributions from other users who send them to me by Private Message to continue creating a “New World”.

Currently removing materials is a very simple, repetitive task that provides a large amount of materials. In reality it is the opposite of what we can find in real life; Except maybe for the “repetitive” thing, but only to a point.

  • In real life, actions such as cutting down a tree, skinning an animal, or chopping an iron ore, are processes that take a long time, and that in the end provide an amount of resources according to the time spent.

  • In New World, cutting down a tree, skinning an animal, or mincing an iron ore, is a matter of a few seconds, and you receive a huge amount of materials each time you do it.

This issue that we are going to deal with here affects the economy of New World, since if all players can be all professions, no one needs other players because they are all self-sufficient, and that has a direct impact on the economy.
I talk about this right here:
[Aurora Project] Why money is not flowing in New World?, How to fix it

Of course it also affects the professions and how they are managed in New World.
Information about it, here:
[Aurora Project] Changes in “Professions System”

And all that affects why players prefer not to use professions to strengthen the economy.
You have that topic here:
[Aurora Project] It isn’t worth craft equipment, why and how to solve this?

My proposal for this is to tighten the times and earnings more.

One of the problems with cutting down a tree in a matter of seconds is that it is enough for 2-3 players to get together to leave an area of the map completely depopulated. The same is true of ores and animals; and I don’t think the solution to this problem is to decrease the respawn time of these elements.

Currently there are already “dead trees” and a different animation to cut them down, and it should be a mechanic used to manage the time and resources of the felling, for example.

  • Cutting down a tree and making it fall should not bring you any benefit, and it should also be a long process (This prevents players who are not looking for resources from spending their time trying to deforest an area just out of boredom). Likewise, several players should be able to cut down the same tree to cut it down earlier.
  • After a tree has been felled, it should fall to the ground as it already does, and then it should be able to be felled again several times, providing materials each time. With each felling, only a “portion” of the tree should be harvested, and this portion should grant wood resources (In this way, a single tree would take considerably longer and would grant a larger amount of resources for several players at the same time. that it is not so easy to deforest an area and making the players seek to cooperate with each other).
  • After this, a felled tree should take several days to grow back; at least a couple of real days. Games like ArcheAge have these mechanics, which sounds crazy (Everyone thinks at first that 2 days to respawn a tree is crazy, but actually in ArcheAge it works perfectly and has much less vegetation than New World; in addition, New World is full of bushes that also grant wood, and of course it is more logical than seeing how a tree respawns in front of you out of nowhere …). The downed tree should have a growth animation during those two days and you should be able to see how it grows. During this time, logging could be done again, but it would yield very little wood so it would not be worth it. Furthermore, this rapid growth for a tree of 20 meters or so can easily be attributed to the Lore of the island of Aethernum, as part of “its own rules”.

The same should happen with ores.

  • Chopping an iron ore, for example, should be a long process that should also be divided into many repetitions, and each of these repetitions should provide minerals to the player.
Right now, you come to an ore, you hit a button and you wait. Then the ore disappears entirely and comes out of nowhere in a few minutes. I believe that an ore should be able to be minced multiple times, and also several players should be able to do it at the same time. And each of these times, it should give you materials. Each time the penalty should be smaller and smaller until there is nothing left. And the ore should slowly grow back in several days, maybe 3-4 actual days.

And for animals it’s not bad at all, but it could improve a bit.

  • Skinning an animal is a matter of seconds is quite a short time, and you quickly run out of animals even if you are alone. I think that taking longer to skin a single animal and receive a little more skin would help solve this problem in part, in addition to giving it more realism.

Of course, all this also applies to the collection of plants and other ways of obtaining raw material, such as fishing, for example.

Finally, it would not be bad if all these actions had some kind of “minigame”, for example:

Cut: Having to click at the exact moment with each ax to receive more materials and cut faster.

Chop: Having to click repeatedly while the Character loads the ax, and the more times you clicked axes in that amount of time, the more materials and the faster you will chop.

Skinning: Having to press the click at the right time and also release it at the right time, simulating when the knife would begin to cut the skin and when the cut would end, thus receiving more materials and ending the process earlier.

They are small details that make not only your skills as a Character go up, but also your skills as a Player. This is one of the wonders of games like Dark Souls, where an expert player is clearly differentiated from a new player. Although they are both level 1, one of them will be able to kill any Boss even if it takes him a long time, while the other never will. And it’s not a question of Character level or equipment, it’s a question of your progress as a Player, and it’s a wonderful feeling.

With these small details, an expert skinning player will always skin faster and receive more and better materials than a new one, and it is because he deserves it, because he has had a learning process to reach this point of skill, and he will has won.
There would always be a base and a minimum of resources that you are going to obtain, but who better does it, without a doubt deserves more materials, and more opportunities to obtain “rare” materials.

I like your train of thought, but i have to disagree with your “click at the right time” strategy. My hands don’t work as well as they used to and having to time things just right would be a total failure for me. As it is, the fishing mechanic is a bit of a pain (literally) trying to hit MAX on the meter.
