> [Aurora Project] What New World could become <
Greetings to all.
The so-called “Aurora Project” is a set of ideas divided into several Post, where they will be treated individually and precisely. It is very important to understand that these suggestions are my way of understanding and improving New World, and that of course any other opinion is totally valid as well. I ask for the maximum possible respect in these Posts that I am going to discuss, and if anyone wants to comment, I would ask you, please, that they read the entire Project, all Post with the Tag “[Aurora Project]” and written by me: “Lobo_Necrodes”, to understand its objective.
More Posts will be added over time and with new ideas. I accept contributions from other users who send them to me by Private Message to continue creating a “New World”.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I want to start by making something clear, and that is that I am not making this post to crush, humiliate, or discredit New World; on the contrary, I do it because I think it is good to ACCEPT mistakes, and learn from them in order to improve. Because if we don’t accept mistakes, they can never be corrected.
The second thing I want to say is that I would have loved New World to have succeeded and to have been a great game, because that way, today I would have an MMORPG that I could play and enjoy with my friends on a daily basis, but unfortunately , it’s not like that…
I’ll leave an image so you can see for yourselves what’s going on with New World.

- This image is taken from the official Steam statistics, and if you click on the image it will take you to the updated and live analysis of New World on Steam.
- Its maximum peak was 913,027 users, on October 1, 2021.
- And its lowest peak is currently at 57,454 users, on February 1, 2022.
The logical question is, what happened to New World? Is it an MMORPG worth playing today?
I don’t want to sound abrupt, but my resounding and unequivocal answer is: NO. New World is not worth playing due to how little it offers.
I want to go deeper into this, because although today New World is a game that is not worth it, the reality is that it has a solid base thanks to which, and after several changes, New World could be a really promising game.
I will first cite the things that are good about New World.
Then I will cite what his biggest mistakes are.
Finally, I will say why I think New World is not doing things right, and how it could change to become an MMORPG that competes for the Top 5.
But first… New World’s number one problem is the fact that they keep listening to the wrong people. I don’t know who makes the decisions on the New World development team, but they clearly don’t know what matters to the players.
Like I said before, I don’t want to put anyone down, but it’s important to say mistakes out loud and ADMIT THEM, or New World will continue to lose players. There must be a person who is in charge of making decisions, of prioritizing certain things over taking them away from others, who decides on good changes, who has good ideas or who at least knows how to value ideas when they are good. I have been reviewing this forum for months, and there are people here with much better and original ideas than those that are being applied, and I think you should listen to these people, even if they are not educated, even if they do not work in this sector, or even if they are 10 years old… because “good ideas” can be had by anyone, and “good ideas” are what differentiate an exceptional product from a mediocre product.
There we have the clear example of American Airlines, which managed to save +40,000 dollars a year just by removing an olive from the first class salads on its flights… To have an idea like this you don’t need studies or 20 years of experience , not even 70 years old and being a millionaire… you just need to have an active mind, open to solutions of any kind, and be alert and sharp enough to have ideas like that.
For this reason, my advice to Amazon and New World is to stop always listening to the same people, and open your mind, because there are very good ideas in the forum and people who could really help change the course of New World in the future. years to come, and the only reason this is not happening is because whoever is in charge is not giving them the attention they deserve.
Often a lone modder does a better job than an entire company, because “passion” is everything; the real desire to want to make a product succeed because you APPRECIATE and TRUST that product. This is something that should be taken into account.
THE GOOD THINGS OF NEW WORLD
-
Its sound section.
I think it’s the MMORPG with the best sound effects I’ve ever played. Being in the middle of a forest, felling a tree or breaking a stone, and that your friend hears you 300 meters away… it’s wonderful; and the most important thing for me, is REALISTIC. I think that video games (and cinema, literature, TV series, etc… although that would be another topic) are very afraid of doing “realistic” things nowadays, but for me the realist in a video game is something important (I’m not talking about reaching the “simulation”, but being “realistic” enough to be able to say that it is “logical” within the reality that each IP inhabits).
The fact that an enemy, or just another player, can find you because of the noise you’re making is fantastic to me, so in all honesty, I’d like to congratulate the team that has taken care of this part of the game, because it’s your best point.
And this… says a lot about how the rest of things are made. Not because the audio isn’t something important, but because normally an MMORPG is remembered for its mechanics, not for its sound effects, and yet, it’s the only thing that all the players who have played New World agree on; that its sound effects are really outstanding. -
Its graphic section.
You don’t have to be a guru to figure this out. They are not the best graphics in the world, but they are very good graphics.
He uses a realistic color palette in most cases, especially in his landscapes, clothing, equipment, buildings, etc. All that are actually “things created with earthly materials.” This is interspersed with more saturated and bright colors for all those things that are of a more “fantastic” nature, with some enemies, maps and buildings.
It really is very nice to see, and in my personal case, I have always had good FPS, so I would say that it is well optimized. -
Bet on a slow and tactical combat system.
And this does not mean that the combat system is perfect, but this nuance, is that it is “slow and tactical”, it is something positive. We already have 523 MMORPGs (at least…) of Asian style (the vast majority) where everything is colored lights, spamming 50 skills per minute, and jumping from one place to another as if we all had super powers.
But in turn, the combat system has one of the worst points of New World that I will detail below. A point that only seems to like 50,000 people of the 913,000 who entered to test the game, and I’m certainly not one of those 50,000…
Unfortunately, I would say that these are the only good and fun things about New World today. And yes, now many players may come to tell me that this is not correct and that it has many more, but you have to understand one thing… and that is that New World only plays about 50,000 daily active players, and that number does not stop increasing. down and down, so I understand that YOU have a lot of things that you like about New World, but New World can’t survive with 50,000 active players a month… it needs a lot more, and for that it has to change things, quite a lot in fact , to find those things that the majority like and attract the public.
I understand that for some players the game will be perfect, but you have to understand that you are a minority with particular tastes, and that unfortunately this is not profitable for a company like Amazon; so with a heavy heart, the options are either to change, or to close New World in the near future. And I think it’s better to evolve and adapt to survive than to just throw in the towel.
THE BAD THINGS OF NEW WORLD
-
Its “weapon” based combat system.
It is clear that this only pleases a minority. It is a very minority minority… It is something that I already talked about in this post:
[Aurora Project] Changes in “Class System”
People who play MMORPGs are people who obviously… like RPGs, role-playing games. An RPG without Classes is nothing, and this is known by anyone who has ever played an RPG in their life. It’s fine that a Class can use various types of weapons and abilities, but there must be those “Classes” as such, Classes that help you identify with your character.
And it is that I already said it in the link that I have previously commented on my other post, “Being an Archer” is not the same as “Being a guy with a bow”. They are extremely different things, and this is a tremendous problem. And if you really can’t see the difference between these two terms, no wonder they only have 50,000 players a month and dropping. And I am going to repeat it for the third time, I am not saying this to offend anyone, I am saying it because many times it is necessary to be told what you are doing wrong so that you can ACCEPT IT and CHANGE IT.
This… ufff… is without a doubt the biggest problem New World has, because all the other problems revolve around it.
There are no Classes so you can’t “specialize” in anything, because all players can do the same things. Nobody needs anybody, so in the end nobody looks for anybody to play with; And what is an MMORPG where no one plays with anyone? Well, a large map full of people who only come together to punch each other 4 times in PvP and do the same dungeon repetitively 100,000 times.
And yet, both things get boring precisely because there are no Classes. It’s ridiculous, honestly. And until they change this, rest assured that New World will not attract new audiences. And you can give it a try, just put out a news saying “New World will add a Class system to their MMORPG”, and users would come back in droves just to try it out, because it’s something we all want to see in New World.
But of course, it is not enough just to change this to keep those players, it would be necessary to change other things as well. -
Its territory capture system.
Having this system is not an error as such, but as it is carried out, it is. And it’s a big mistake since almost 90% of the game is thinking for this purpose, and it shows.
It doesn’t make sense to be able to attack territories every two days, or every day, or even several times a day… it’s absurd and I don’t know how they don’t realize it. A “Coordinated Attack” of this magnitude to take over something as important as a sector of the map, should be something really difficult and require a lot of planning time.
A simple skirmish at a location in the middle of nowhere should not be enough, they should be true large-scale wars where the entire map is compromised, and where siege weapons can be used.
You already have a map created with your respective cities by sectors, why don’t you take advantage of all that potential, it could be the best PvP battles ever seen in an MMORPG, and you are not doing anything with all that…
If you ask me, wars should be a planning process of at least a week or even two, so that the players hype for all that time preparing their assault, and the defenders fine-tuning their defenses. And defenders should have it a lot easier than attackers, just like it is in real life. In this way, staging an attack would be something the attackers would take seriously, something they would eagerly prepare for weeks, and an elusive feat that they would truly value when they succeeded, just as the defending team valued for as long as they did. he had that territory in his power because he already had to fight and suffer before to be able to get it.
Also, they shouldn’t be instanced battles with markers, and cute little icons, and all that… they should be fierce, hard, difficult battles, on the open map itself. And you should be able to attack both castles and cities in the same territory, and take both to win that territory.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to make a full post where I exploited all the PvP possibilities of New World because I stopped playing earlier as the game was getting pretty boring and all my friends were going back to WoW… but I did make a couple of post where I more or less talked about easier things to change for current PvP, and you can see it here:
[Aurora Project] Changes in “Castle Siege” : Tools to manage groups
[Aurora Project] Changes in “Castle Siege” : Updating mechanics -
Its trading system without NPCs.
It took FALLOUT 76 almost 2 years to realize that an MMORPG without NPCs, which bases the economy on its own players, is complete suicide and is not viable because the players will not behave “realistically” within the game. , generating supply and demand, because it is not a NEED, and therefore, this system without NPCs is worth nothing.
If all of us had the possibility and ability to live by ourselves, would we work for other people? Ask anyone and they will always tell you that the best thing is to be your own boss… Well, this is what happens in video games.
If I can go out to cut down, I am not going to buy wood.
If I can chop, I won’t buy stone.
If I can build my own boat, I’m not going to buy one.
If I can make my own potions, I’m not going to buy them.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc…
And if we add to this that 90% of the players do the same thing, trade goes to hell… The economy becomes unsustainable and self-destructs. And this is exactly what I am talking about here:
[Aurora Project] Why money is not flowing in New World?, How to fix it
Now let’s also add that all players can be all professions at the same time. Another absurd idea… I talk about it here:
[Aurora Project] Changes in “Professions System”
And all this breaks the economy, because it is not profitable to buy anything when you already have plenty of everything… I also talk about this here:
[Aurora Project] It isn’t worth craft equipment, why and how to solve this?
If I, who am an ordinary person who is not dedicated to the economy, is able to deduce all this simply by looking at the world around me and using logic, how is it possible, that from a study owned by Amazon, with hundreds of employees, not a single one notices and says something to their superiors?
NPCs are REQUIRED. Not only because they bring the game to life, but also because they fulfill different very important functions, and in this case trade and regulation of the economy are a clear example. They should use NPCs and “artificial tax” algorithms to balance the economy whenever it goes out of balance. They can pass these “artificial taxes” on players, who rules what sector, or whatever else they want, but they’re necessary in either case. -
The poor PvE system.
PvE is always one of the fundamental pillars of any MMORPG, and in most cases it is the most played content, however you have only a few Dungeons (all the same actually…), which you must repeat dozens of times for beneficial results. Please…spend more time on this pillar of your game, because it’s not nearly as good as it could be.
If you want my advice, copy the best in this section, World Of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV and TERA. It’s okay to take inspiration from other games, or even copy certain things. Let’s see if you believe that anything we have today was invented by a single person… no, it is the accumulation of years, and years, and years of evolution, of people who look at the work of others, improve them , and pass the testimony back to future generations for further refinement; so do the same. Take systems that you already know work and that people like, and try to take it a step further (SUPER IMPORTANT: Don’t remove things that you already know work to try to be different from the rest ¬¬’ Just copy what you know already works, and then, PLUS, try to go one step further). -
Its setting.
It seems silly, right? By now you must be thinking that I complain about anything, but if you think like that it’s because you don’t understand how important this point is.
If I tell you there’s going to be a new Star Wars movie, you can’t imagine how many people will want to see it just because of its setting… and people who’ve already seen Star Wars are constantly looking for other movies that have a similar setting, because they fell in love with it. All these people are basically “consumers” who are giving money to companies that make products that meet their search criteria, in this case “Science Fiction”.
The “Pirate” theme isn’t bad, but damn… New World isn’t even remotely pirate-themed. It has pirates, it has samurais, it has warriors, it has Spanish colonists, it has magic, and 20 other things, put in a blender and put in any way; that’s the truth. And although the graphics seduce you at first, later you begin to feel uncomfortable because you don’t find any sense in the setting offer that New World presents you.
Don’t be silly… go for the “Medieval-Magic Fantasy”, we all know very well that it works. It gives the feeling that you didn’t want to do a Medieval-Magical Fantasy just for stubbornness, just for trying to be different from the rest, and congratulations… you’ve succeeded. This result has been liked by just 50,000 monthly players and going down every day…
For the fourth time, these comments are not to discourage or humiliate, they are to make you realize how ridiculous some of your decisions are and the repercussions they are having, so do yourself a favor, ACCEPT that your original ideas are a complete disaster and CHANGE things so that New World can revive, or it will end up in oblivion along with other MMORPGs that we all already know too well…
The list goes on and on… but things are becoming less important, so I think a Top 5 of the worst things in New World is enough.
Of course, these things are not “isolated” but each one of them affects other things, and in the end the whole makes New World an MMORPG of just 50,000 players per month.
I would love to continue giving my feedback, so that you know that we players care and you can improve it, but I want to be honest… and I have already invested a lot of time in this forum and none of the good ideas, neither mine nor those of no other player, have received the slightest attention. Players are here, every day, investing our time, effort, and dedication, so that you can improve your product and that we all win: So that you earn more money and we enjoy a better game. But I don’t see a rapprochement of any kind with the players. The only thing I see is that you continue with your programmed route of content that you already had thinking about releasing, and nothing more. Well let me tell you one thing… no one will come back to New World when they release new weapons like Daggas, and no one will come back when they release a new map, and no one will come back when they put mounts… because they have more serious problems that they are not solving, And until these things change, no one is going to bother giving New World a second chance.
I will give you an example so that you understand it better; also an example that we all know very well. World of Warcraft.
-
World Of Warcraft: Every year that WoW releases new content, players come back en masse, by the millions, because the basics of the game are good and fun, what happens is that the content is for 15 year olds, overly easy, boring and repetitive, so players come back to the game, try it, and after 2 months they get bored again.
-
New World: It does not matter what content they release, because the base of the game and its mechanics are so boring and poorly thought out, that even if the content were the best in the world, playing it would be a headache and we would still not be able to feel identified with a Class, without being able to advance in it and gradually specialize with various branches of progression, we would continue to have economy problems, we would continue to have repetitive and boring PvP and PvE, etc, etc, etc.
And honestly, if I were the owner of New World, I would be very happy to be compared to World Of Warcraft, because not everyone has that honor. World Of Warcraft today is sad, and I haven’t paid for it or played it for months, but we must not forget what it has meant for the MMORPG industry, and considering the current purchase by Microsoft, I would spend a lot of time and I push my New World (even assuming I owned it) to compete with World Of Warcraft and other MMORPGs for years to come. And if someone does things better than me, the first thing is to ACCEPT IT with your head held high, and the second is to learn from him; Of the good and the bad.
With this I end this post. In the end, it will just be another post to which I dedicate several hours to finally end up in oblivion, so… I suppose that in the end, as usually happens, we players love video games more than their own creators; It’s a shame I wasn’t born a millionaire or had the opportunity to become rich, because I would dedicate every second of my work and free time to my great passion, which is MMORPGs.
I guess this will be my last post here for a long time, unless New World changes a lot and for the better, which I don’t see on the horizon… so hello to all, and I wish you the best.

Modifications may come to this Post in the future, and will be added as an answer and / or edit.
Remember once again, that these suggestions are my way of understanding and improving New World, and that of course any other opinion is totally valid as well. I ask for the maximum possible respect in these Posts that I am going to discuss, and if anyone wants to comment, I would ask you, please, that they read the entire Project, all Post with the Tag “[Aurora Project]” and written by me: “Lobo_Necrodes”, to understand its objective.
Thanks for your time and attention, and until next time. Greetings.
