Back in Alpha I said the game should be pushed back. But got a lot of flack for that

all they had to do was make leveling to 60 a matter of actual progression meaning increasing the xp needed to max level.

Getting to level 60 was the easiest part about this MMO.

Also they shouldn’t have mentioned how the watersystem worked, they just made it all about rotations after telling us.

I actually agree. They made getting to 60 too fast, they really needed to slow things down.

TBH, I’m not a hater of the game. I really love NW and feel it was fine to be released (not popular opinion).

Things I don’t like are how fast the leveling process was. Town board remained OP. (I didn’t even use it) and it was still relatively fast process to 60.

My main criticism for level 60 is the watermark system. I literally hate it.

(Profession leveling was too fast too, thanks for changing that… oh wait this should have been done before people were already 200)

How can you think it was okay to be released after the literal shit shower of failures that have happened? They’re using a bucket to try and stop a sinking ship. I can’t comprehend how anyone thinks it was anywhere near to ready tbh.

you as a company invested around 20 million dollars within 3 years to develop this game and then you realize that you are almost out of budget.

What would you do?

  1. let the game halfway die in beta.
  2. rush out to the world and get 40 million dollors (i dont know how much they sold and the cash they earned) and have the chance to fix the problems.

maybe this was their problem…

but iam not 100% sure. they dont tell me

I get it, you are salty.

Use some self restraint and just don’t play it. Why must you attack people that want to play it?

Salty? Because I disagree? That’s real constructive… well done.

I haven’t played it since I hit 60 and realised how awful the game is. I’ve hoped and continue to hope it will do well, but to see anyone actually say that it’s acceptable in this state is mindblowing.

If you are offended by people pointing out the failures of a game and find it difficult to have your opinions challenged then maybe the forums aren’t the best place for you…

You didn’t just disagree, you wanted to insult my opinion.

It’s funny when someone wants to attack someone else because they have a different opinion. The actions of a salty person.

What exactly did you find offensive?

@Licks

If you click edit, and see my name you will know if I got pinged. JS.

Take as much time as you need… i’m eager to hear what hurt your feelings.

no, mmos are never finished so would rather play and watch the game mature

I don’t get how you got that my feelings are hurt out of all this.

I just explained that you weren’t simply making an opinion on something, but wanted to challenge me for having a different opinion.

:woman_shrugging:

your replies are just tears that noone cares, dont like the game move on, others still enjoy playing it

The problem with New World is that its treated as an AAA game because of the involvment of Amazon, but the thruth is its just a small company that made the game.

The easily disrupted code, the lacking UI and content are all signs of a game that is underdeveloped.
The nice graphics and Amazon involvement made the hype go through the roof and pushed the game for an early release it wasnt ready for.

Its a pity, because it has tanked hard, and i really dont think they will get back after this.
A lesson learned i guess, but will it help others?

I doubt it.

This really is the only part I truly agree with, could have been more fleshed out. But nonetheless, I personally don’t believe that a further pushback really is/was required for that.

Post launch content can be added in these as well. And the advantage of doing things post launch, in my opinion, is that there is a lot more data regarding content actually played and thus, where development time makes sense.

This doesn’t work so well with an alpha crowd, because they are a different kind of beast in general than the much more casual, although much larger, potential playerbase you see post launch.

For everything else, you keep mentioning things like “more polish”, but you fail to specify what you actually mean with this.

And personally I would counter the entire push back would have been good sentiment, as I’ve previously done. Alpha feedback brought the game to where it is now. Its direction in decisions was brought to where it is now. And a continuous heading in that same direction, you most certainly not have made much of a difference to people leaving this game in big numbers if you ask me.

Let’s be frank, we’re in bit of a bubble here. If you’re on reddit, you’re pretty much in a comparable bubble. If you look on mainstream media however, people mentioning reasons for leaving are hardly even what you mention here.

I’ve seen numerous people outside of this more hardcore New World stating their leaving this game because of territory control, the faction system, lack of (flying) mounts, lack of dungeon finders, etc. Having prolonged alpha, in a continued direction of where things were heading, would not have kept these players. A longer alpha would not have removed territory control, would not have removed company tax abuse, etc.

Once more, alpha players and post launch players just are variously different beasts. The longer you remain in alpha, the more detached you often find a product becoming. Just take a look at Star Citizen for example, who in their right mind believes that the nutrition and hydration system, to the absurd of removing your helmet prior to e.g. drinking, is not going to lead to people finding this obnoxiously tedious post launch? Yet, this is the kind of stuff you start getting with “continued polish” based on alpha feedback.

I’d much rather say, MMO’s should just follow suit and start labeling their products as “early access” post launch. MMO’s in the first roughly 6 months post launch are always in a state of heavily continued development of the groundworks. For some reason, people appear to forget this or are new to the genre. An early access label could help indicate this.

Waiting longer wouldnt help. They made some errors and created new bugs with rolling out new stuff.
They just have to learn how to maintain a live game…

There is just so much which is lacking when it comes to basic quality of life, which most of us are used to. This is 2021, the lacking character customisation, none dyeable store outfits, stopping people from buying them, no transmorgs. Copy and paste with the housing feature, instead of adding more variation. No group finder, although with their orb system I am not sure how a group finder could even work. Clunky chat, not able to personalise the settings.

Then what appears a lack of foresight. Launching a game into a starved of releases community, being unprepared for the rush, having to add servers, yet no solution already in place to deal with the normal fall off after the hype, made worse due to somewhat misleading advertising, drawing pure pve players in, just to realise that the pvp mechanics will forever impact their pve play, something a lot of pve players will have found a terrifying prospect. Now many dead servers, pve and pvp players closing the door behind them, with players left stuck, the little content there is, for many unavailable or just very unfun.

It is a huge list, the above only a fraction, and while some of it may happened because the release was rushed, it may also just be inexperience and a lack of planning.

Levelling happened much too fast, and out of sync with crafting, but to just slow the levelling process, without providing extra fun engaging pve and pvp content, would not have been of use either.

I do believe the game is salvageable, but it will take considerable effort and reinvesting money that was made from the launch, as I do not see the shop being too profitable for a while.
Guess we have to wait and see if Amazon is interested in that extra investment.

Prime example of what’s wrong here

Again, you stated i insulted your opinion and that i attacked you. The only attack I see is your calling me salty for disagreeing with you.

Last chance, i’ll explain if you can tell me where I insulted you.
