I thought I read in a dev blog not to use an overlay as it could get action taken against your account! That means Overwolf is not approved by AGS. Not sure how any of this applies to map genie since it is a web site and not an addon.

you can have a Ipad in front of you with the same website on…or a second monitor…or you do it from memory or you use the wolf app…its all the same

The problem with banning Overwolf is a technical one at its core, as Overwolf it’s self doesn’t do anything with respect to New World - Overwolf is an overlay generating program that has a marketplace attached for users to share and download Overlays that have been designed with Overwolfs framework.

The Overwolf overlays currently available for New World are essentially just a collection of jpegs layered on top of each other, with the only interaction the plugin has with New World being poling player position.

I’m also really curious how other players using the map has any effect on you whatsoever, let alone impacting your “immersion”.

This obsession with forcing other players to play the same way as you is incredibly self centered and childish.

EAC can only see if you’re using a browser, but not what sites you are on so AGS will never know if you visit map genie. Same with Overwolf, EAC (easy anti cheat) see’s overwolf but can’t see the app aka Overlay that’s ran inside of overwolf. because of this AGS can’t tell if overwolf is using the overlay or not. Also to note that EAC has overwolf white listed so you’ll never get flagged by EAC for using overwolf and by extension the overlay.

They are using the fact that New World doesn’t have a means to ban ATM excuse to use.

It’s been stated by NW that addons that pull more than the location aren’t allowed (such as pulling from external websites).

People just want to make up their own rules instead of actually listening to the Devs.

I’m not sure, I haven’t seen any evidence that people have been banned because of it so I wouldn’t want to make an assumption.

I know I am not willing to just toss money out the window for a little qol thing in a video game, if the ToS specify I could loose rights to play then I should excersice caution, yeah! Figure the community would use the same logic as it makes since to me. AGS has indicated a rework or adjustment is needed soo imo they have acknowledged the need for better map to player orientation.
