Ban Overwolf Minimap, it is cheating & ruining immersion

Dunno about people that just want to waste their precious time running around like headless Chicken which seems what’s considered “immersion” here, but I and everyone I know uses the resource map on the other Monitor while opening the map inside the game and put pins. And then memorize the node locations by doing a route several times over.

Sounds like this Minimap just makes that god-awful process a lot easier–as every other game with decent quality of life. Once you memorize the location of the nodes, you don’t need minimap.

I think that as long as it doesn’t say which Node is up in real time, it’s pretty fair, and it would make people actually do more gathering in game. Would help enjoy the game more. Unless the Dev team is worried that people run through the little content faster…

That’s not true - the current mini-maps on Overwolf are fine to use in their current form.

And they are available and approved for use all the same.

Yall realize the sun doesn’t raise or set in the right direction and ya talking about a minimap… now that is immersion breaking.

LOL, holy shit that killed me no cap.

I’m a little confused. Are you replying to me of Sifu?

That post is segmented into 2 comments - @SifuDizzy40 is spreading disinformation off the axe of hearsay.

I just disagree with you however, and am pushing back against the notion that there is anything wrong with the use of these mini-map plugins. AGS has explicitly stated we are allowed to use them as they currently function, and many users on these forums are intentionally spreading lies about the legitimacy of these plugins such that other players will believe these plugins are not allowed when they are.

I’m not saying you are guilty of this but your argument falls on the same side as those who are, and I am just making sure there is a counter-voice lobbying the point that these plugins are allowed for use by AGS, and should remain so.

reported for using the word ‘ban’. its racist and bigotry.

Ban all players with better computers specs than mine! It is an unfair benefits. And 3 screen because I have only two ( btw my second screen cost me second hand 30 Euros) and yes i have a map on that screen

What I really wanna see is suspensions for internet that’s too fast or slow.

You’re gunna play this game the way I want you to if it kills both of us.

Thanks for explaining. The only official thing I’ve seen on the forums has been that personal location data is fine, but that any other data cannot be shown.

Either way you are correct. I really don’t care for the idea. It’s weird because in every other game I’ve played I’ve expected that there be a minimap. If that didn’t provide other map information like node locations I got an addon that would.

In the same spirit in every game I have played I ground countless hours for rep and/or coin, or used RMT on the game’s store to get mounts. Absolutely have loved my mounts in all their great variety and even sameness.

Yet, here in this game they just don’t seem appropriate to me. Perhaps i got knocked in the head too hard at some point. Maybe it’s the bad influence of the forum Illuminati. I do have reasons for these things I’m opposed to but I won’t waste your time with the same arguments you’ve heard from everyone else on this subject.

Yep that is totally true - however many players interpret this to mean that is the ONLY feature the mini-maps can support while the statement the Dev’s have made is referring to game data. Currently the only interaction the overlays have with the game is pulling player locations, when they say “pulling” or “pull” that is referring to an API call that takes the data from the game and interprets it for another program.

Many of the mini-maps also store player submitted markers for things they have seen in game, these are the “nodes” that are shown on the mini-map; none of them are actual true locations of anything, they are all just the estimates of individual people. It amounts to a notepad file that you and your friends share that contains notes on where you have things in game as you play.

This is fundamentally outside AGS scope, and isn’t something that would occur to them that they have the right to manage - from a technical perspective it has as much to do with the game as your spotify playlist.

AGS has also stated that in future the mini-maps are clear to support the following 5 fuctions, the first of which is already supported:

The mini-map can:

· Show player position
· Show folks in group as we do on compass
· Only show node placement if they’ve unlocked that node via tradeskills, provided it is within the range that compass would display them.
· Only show AI that you’ve unlocked via tradeskills as compass and within range of compass.
· Show quests as they do on compass

Many of these features will require updates the the Overwolf API that AGS has built for Overwolf to use to pull data from the game, this is their comment on their priorities regarding updating the API so these mini-maps can support more features.

Information to be used for display, even within the limitations expressed below (above in this case), must come from the Overwolf API, which we may add to over time but can’t commit to at the moment.

This is the current state of affairs with the current available Overwolf mini-map overlay plugins.

I know people are complaining saying it is hacking/cheating etc. and trying to put it in the same category as the duping people (which is hilarious they even consider a mini map in the same boat as that) but this is the first mmo I have played that doesn’t have a mini map. Hmm let me see, WoW, FFXIV, SWTOR, ESO, Rift, WIldstar, SWG, AoC, LotR, TSW, well I think people get my point.

Anyways, addons like a mini map imo isn’t cheating. It is a mini map that should have been part of the game since the beginning. All other mmos use addons yet not considered cheating. If you think this mini map gives such a crazy advantage then you have never played an mmo before. “You can see nodes on it”. WOW. You can see nodes on that bar at the top of your screen too. What’s your point?

The disagreement they have is that the compass shows you actual live node locations when they are currently up - they interpret that the mini-map is showing you all node locations at all times, however this is a misunderstanding on their part.

Currently no mini-map shows any node data, none of the node locations listed in any of the plugins are true node locations, they are manually recorded nodes added by individual players. They are often incomplete, inaccurate, or missing altogether - there is no game data used in the cataloguing of these nodes.

They believe the mini-map is showing MORE node data than the compass does in-game however from a technical perspective they are not showing any of the same data whatsoever, and only the in-game compass is truly showing you the actual location of anything at all that is listed on the mini-map or shown by the compass.

Everything listed in these plugins is a guess at best most of the time and just not there at all the rest of the time.

at the end of the day all minimaps currently show where a node could be placed whether that is a guesstimate or not or entered via players or pulled via a reverse scan of the gamedata way back from beta. they are STILL node placements and as they didnt come via the API they are not allowed.

NOWHERE has AGS said the current addons in their current form are allowed only that they HAVENT banned anyone for using them and have decided not to reprimand anyone for using them up until that forum post.

Ahhhh this is some good info. I don’t use Overwolf so I didn’t know exactly how the node thing worked but this put those who thinks this addon is chating/hacking in their place. I am sure I will get Overwolf in time because I still don’t understand how this is the only mmo that doesn’t have one already part of the interface.

Thank you for the info on this too!

I think this quote sums up your lack of understanding perfectly - these are radically different circumstances; just because you do not have the education to discern that difference does not make it so.

Here is another misguided statement you have made in other threads misleading players on these forums:

Here are some other examples of posts you have made attempting to give players the implication they are at risk of being banned when they are not, or cases where you have shown you clearly do not understand this conversaion.

You have made it very clear in many threads that you personally do not want the mini-maps to be approved, while fundamentally misunderstanding the Dev blogs through a lack of experience related to programming of software engineering.

Again, here is the Dev blog.

At this point you are intentionally misleading people. I’m going to report these posts from now on.

Happy to help - just doing what I can to push back against the efforts to mislead others employed by people on these forums like @Triadian.

so in effect your saying im too stupid to understand that the placement of a node is not actually called a node placement.

where i come from telling someone they are stupid without highlight where in fact they are wrong makes you a bully.
feel free to report my posts MAYBE just MAYBE someone from AGS will point out where YOU are too stupid to realise a node placement means where a node is placed.

I think this quote sums up your lack of understanding perfectly, i ACTUALLY want addons and minimaps, but what i want MORE than ever is AGS to explain their stance on not allowing them without any uncertainty or phrases that can be taken both ways. becuase that last announcement was like “overwolf minimap addons are allowed” vs “but what those addons do is NOT allowed”… is like telling people they are allowed to use their car on the road but its illegal to drive a vehicle with 4 wheels and justifying it with “it makes our roads look less aesthetic” (quote taken from a fellow dev)

What about the people that already downloaded the Overwolf Minimap addon coordinates into their brain?

How does it ruin your immersion unless you are using it…?
