The only possible defense of this i could think of was perhaps there is a mob with a similar name that is in the game files, usually game companies exclude players from making names of in game characters/bosses/npcs etc(you cant name yourself thrall in WoW and expect to keep it). the reason for this, as i understand it was due to macros and targeting errors/lore protection. perhaps something like that is going on here.
However…it’s also quite likely that they have automated this system, and if enough people report you(which only requires you pissing enough people off) then they ban/mute/force name changes based on numbers alone. THIS would be the most alarming system as it’s VERY abusable. Personally i hope it’s the former.
Time to fish for lore by testing what names they won’t let us use. I remember playing Vindictus and finding out that the name I chose for my character was the same name as the WORST NPC they introduced in a later generation.
I have no replies on my thread, but I specifically asked people to not contribute unless they have something useful to say. I often see in threads like these were some players think they are the judge jury and executioner on your specific ban and just trash talk you into oblivion, and ‘you of course will never be right because you deserved everything you get.’
To speak on your original post though, I think AGS needs to be more clear on what is and is not acceptable, there rules are too vague and anything can be bannable. I think they like it this way but as players we need to have it more well defined so something that’s okay today isn’t banned tomorrow without warning.
I wish you the best in getting your answer my friend, I have also been waiting on a ticket and two escalations which I think got filed in a garbage can somewhere.
Most of the time when I read about banned names people “forget” to include a screenshot of the actual name and it’s just a thread to complain where we won’t even know if the name in question is actually something that should be banned or not.
In this case, the screenshot speaks volumes, I don’t see anything wrong with your name and you deserve an explanation from the support crew. If they planned to use the name for an NPC, that would in itself be a valid reason but you should at least be told as much.
I’ll bookmark this as well and help bump it daily.
its not a ban. Ban means you cannot log into the service…at all. At most this was a temporary suspension caused by behaviour after which they flagged him for renaming. Not unheard of.
A ban in this case means the same thing as a temporary suspension, there are one day bans as well. Why are you nitpicking on words, you seem to understand his and my meaning quite well. The fact his account was suspended and his name was banned is the point here, whether it’s unheard of or not isn’t even taken into question and your reply is just asinine filled with assumptions about OP’s behavior, people these days…
No, it was found inappropriate and against naming policies, so they flagged it. They never banned him. they just said the name is unacceptable. he waited 4 days when it takes 2 seconds to type in a name.
Hello @Deleted
Just to clarify, forcing the rename and actually banning the user are different things and in this case @HighKing he was asked to rename the character.
Remember you can always check the naming policy here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=G4T2TEF6NYZ3Q29N
And also keep in mind the forums are not the place to discuss penalties, if you guys feel like there was an error you can always appeal the bans. https://www.amazongames.com/en-us/support/new-world/articles/appeal-a-ban
In the case of the renaming, you do have to change the name if you have been requested to do so, in some cases a ban is not necessary, just renaming the character would do the trick.
