Banned people abusing Steam family share

Looks like Amazon had already thought about it and going to disable it:

Actually, I should have searched before posting this, as it has been a hot topic for a while:

Good. These excuses of “b-b-but my children!!!” are just lame. Buy your kids a copy and you can actually play WITH them rather than having them farm mats for you to sell later. “But money!!!” Not anyone’s problem but your own. At least this isn’t WoW where you’re also paying a sub for four-plus people.

I would just like to add my 2 cents here about family sharing.

Yes, it is useful, but people have to realize that it’s an MMO, and no other MMO allow family sharing or account sharing. Why? Because it opens up a huge grey area for hackers and exploiters to jump in, abuse, cheat in all the way they can, justifying it as “account sharing”.

Just take a look at the EULA for every major MMO out there. Account sharing is strictly forbidden.

You have to understand that New World is not a singleplayer game where you can simply borrow it to your friend for them to play the game. It’s an MMO with grinding involved, and allowing family sharing will just damage the game. A lot of people are using it to avoid being banned on their main accounts while they look for exploits or cheats to ruin the game for other players.

By the way, even in AGS Terms of Service, it is not allowed to share your account (and Family Sharing falls under this category):

1. YOUR ACCOUNT

We may require you to create and authenticate an account for the Games using your Amazon, Twitch or other log-in credentials. The profile information connected to those credentials, including your username and avatar, may be displayed to other players and used by us to support your account. Any information you provide must be complete, accurate, and up-to-date. If you are under the age of legal majority (18 years of age in most jurisdictions), you may only use the Game Services under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian, and you must have your parent or legal guardian agree to this Agreement on your behalf. You may not share, sell, rent, or transfer your account. You are responsible for (i) maintaining the confidentiality of your account log-in credentials and for restricting access to your account, and (ii) all actions that occur under your account, including purchases. Certain Games may be distributed through stores or distribution services offered by our affiliates or third parties, and you may be required to create an account with those parties; your relationship with those parties is governed by their terms. To the extent there is a conflict between their terms and this Agreement, the terms of this Agreement will control with respect to the Games.

It is also included in the Code of Conduct for AGS:

5. Safeguard accounts and protect personal information

Do: protect your and others’ private personal information.

Do not: share passwords in forums or elsewhere. Amazon employees will never ask you for your password. If anyone asks you for your password, DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. Never post or share content that may reveal private personal information about others.

Do not sell, trade, or share accounts.

Say what you want to say, but Family Sharing should never be allowed in MMOs.

EDIT: I forgot a very important part about Family Sharing that if you manage to share the game with other people and you all play together at the same time, you are abusing a bug from Steam which can get you banned for violating the Steam Subscriber Agreement which you agreed to upon creating your Steam account. In theory, Family Sharing should just allow one player to play the game at a time, i.e., if I borrow it to you, you can only play it when I’m not playing, but there are some special occasions where it’s possible to bypass this verification and have both me and you play the game. This is not allowed by the Steam Subscriber Agreement.

I’d say 90/10 in favor of keeping Family Sharing.

The number was arbitrary. So it’s unlimited? If so and someone wanted to “exploit” this for advantage - that’s one boring way to spend time. But assuming we’re talking about farmers (that don’t play for fun), how much gold do you expect they’ll get in an hour (as you have to run back and forth)? Can this be automated? Is it possible for AGS to limit Faction bonuses account-key-wide (to say 15, to accommodate a reasonably sized family)?

Listen, I’m all for shutting down gold famers and exploit users - and shut them down harshly. But I think the solution here does NOT need to come from shutting down Family Sharing.

It’s actually the other way round, I’d say 90/10 in favour of removing it

Only because the majority of users haven’t been given a better option. For some of us, that isn’t good enough and thankfully so. One user thought so and pointed out to AGS a simple oversight that can easily be corrected allowing family share to be used.

Ok, I won’t read all those. I’ll take your word for it. In the end, I bought my kids their own copies, so it doesn’t affect me personally. However, what’s the opposing argument for banning the key instead?

There is no mail system in this game so how exactly are they sending large sums of money? Stop and think for a bit. the only way to exchange gold is direct transfer and I don’t know about you guys but I don’t trade with any random person that opens a trade window with me. I call BS on this. The only direct transfer not involving another person hitting an accept window is giving gold to the company you are in.

One of the best ways to generate wealth is by doing the 3 bonus faction quests. So having an unlimited amount of ALTs parked to do these is a big deal.

There are also a number of items in the game that can only be completed once every 23hrs. I’m not going to name them all, as I don’t want to make potiental exploits anymore clear. But parking ALTs in places to get these items or having them craft them is exploiting the game.

There is a reason AGS only allows us to have 1 character per server per account and family sharing bypasses this with no financial cost.

So… I brought this up once, and was proven wrong. Apparently it’s possible to send people money in-game (yes, from anywhere). It’s not a mail system like WoW, it’s an option built into the UI. I’ve never used it, though. I think it should be disabled (despite being helpful to some folks) at least temporarily until we get more things under control - especially with these exploiters who use it to amass wealth in a single spot.

OK playing with family and friends is not sending large sums of gold to random people to try and get them banned.

No one said that they shouldn’t ban the key, but FS still leaves open the game to several abuses

Ah the storage shed thingies. Well if that happens then report it and just dump the coin or send it back.

But the point isn’t random people sending you money to get you banned, it’s people using the multiple ALTs to make money and send them to friends or family and then have them sent back to your main character

I think we’re talking about two different things… I was replying to the quoted post about the guy trying to get people banned by sending gold to them.

Oh ok sorry

I would think it would me more effective to ban the license than remove family sharing. Consequences.

If you have family that also plays, and you mess around and get banned, the whole license is banned. Thus, anyone who is in the family group is banned as well. Your family will knife you in your sleep for screwing them over. Ez clap.

You can just do “give coin” and select a persons name???

This is just a random person i selected in brightwood that i dont know and the game mention the name is valid. I also canceled it because i need my money ^^

Yeah I remembered the storage vault thing later.
