Blue screen Windows crash when starting up game

  • What is your character name in New World:
I can’t get into the game to check which variation I used, but I think it’s just something like Vyrdrokk.

  • What server/world did you experience your issue on:
On startup, not in a specific world.

  • Describe the issue you are experiencing:
My computer is crashing roughly 50% of the time when I try to start the game, with a blue screen and Windows text saying something generic like “There’s been a problem”, then the computer force restarts after a few seconds.
The stop code for the windows crash is SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.
Sometimes it shows “What failed” as FLTMGR.SYS, sometimes it doesn’t show anything for
    “What failed” at all.

  • Is this a bug? (If this is an exploit, please dm Aenwyn or Luxendra)
    Yes

  • (if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay:
It crashed my computer, so the game was unplayable.

  • (if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue:
Only by waiting till my computer restarted.

  • (if a bug) Please include a screenshot or video of the issue that you have experienced:
    PXL-20220909-183937543 — ImgBB

  • What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced:
Start the game from Steam. Alt-tabbing may make the issue worse, but I have had it happen at least once where I just clicked “play” and waited, doing nothing else, and still got the system crash.

  • When did this happen? (Date and Relative time; please include your timezone)
Multiple times over the course of Sept 8 through Sept 9.

EDIT: SOLVED!

Things that didn’t fix the issue:

  • Verifying the files on Steam

  • Checking for Windows updates and restarting

  • Updating drivers (none were found to be out of date)

Things that may have contributed to fixing the issue (I didn’t test in between them, so I don’t know which one worked):

  • Fully uninstalling and re-installing the game

  • Running command prompt as an administrator and using command sfc /scannow to scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy.

That is a windows issue not the game. Chipset drivers, bios, etc. the sfc scan more than likely repaired the integrity issues on your system.

That makes sense, although it is strange that it only happened with New World, not any other game, and that it only started happening after a New World update when there hadn’t been any updates to my windows system in a while.

wonky dll injections can cause that too.

Welcome to the New World forum community.

I’ve moved this over to the support section as our support team is better equipped to handle this.

Hello and welcome to the forums @vyrdrokk42, thank you @Centeotl for moving this thread over, and thank you @Helvanir for your good input on this one,

I am sorry to hear you were having issues getting into the game but am glad to see you managed to get around that. I can confirm what @Helvanir mentions in that these error messages are usually associated with Windows itself so I can also suggest running a disk check up and making sure all windows dll files are in order.

Good luck and see you in Aeternum! :wolf:
