Blunderbuss feels a little weak. Some feedback after 20 hours of PVP

Hey all.

I’m a mage, and initially first picking up the Bussy, it felt super fun. All the animations and sound are beautiful.

However, I tried running a combination of stats (note this is in the POV of a mage) - full int, split str/int, and just more str.

However, all combination feels quite weak esp in PVP.

The two shots (or three if you use that perk) of auto seem inadequate considering its spread and lack of range. Reload also is quite slow. I don’t see why one would use the auto over… anything, considering IG/VG/FS all have higher DPS in their autos with much more range and doesn’t need to reload.

Net shot seems borderline useless - I don’t find it impactful at all in slowing anyone down despite being fully upgraded.

Blast shot is promising, but the short range and long wind up time makes it quite hard to land on anyone else but those that are already slowed, rooted, stunned, or are extremely close to you.

Mortar is super fun to use but there are lots of issues with it. If you step on any small incline, you are taken out of the ability. It takes a long time to load, and the time between each shot is slooooow. The damage doesn’t make up for its slow speed either.

Splitting Grenade is in a good spot, although I think maybe a faster “split” speed would make it a bit more impactful.

Azoth Shrapnel is fine, but definitely requires a super close range or most of the pellets won’t hit.

Claw Shot in theory sounds super good + fun, but in this meta of Grav Wells and Ice Shower, getting close to enemies actually is a pretty bad idea. Which sucks because most of the abilities with the BB require you to be very very close. Maybe make it so you can Claw onto anything even environmental stuff. Could be too OP in mobility though, even though it would make this weapon extremely fun and unique.

And the most important piece of thing that affects the BB particular to mages is that int conversion elemental gems are broken when it comes to the damage.

Using T2-T5 with full int, the elemental side of the damage is significantly reduced, so you are missing out between 30-50% damage when using full int conversion. So this makes BB entirely unviable with a full int build. This is the same bug affecting Fire Staff’s Fireball when using an elemental conversion gem - the elemental damage is significantly reduced.

Another issue is, Refreshing Move would be super useful with this weapon, but the craft mod for it doesn’t work with rolling. You can only get the faction vendor one.

All in all, I’m not entirely sure what niche this weapon serves. It’s not for CC (granted, I am thankful it doesn’t have roots - this game already has enough roots). It’s definitely not for range. It’s a close range weapon, but it doesn’t do as much damage as say a hatchet or great axe. It’s not as good as a Fire Staff for AOE damage either because the CDs are sooooo high.

Some more observations after another day of all day OPR testing:

  • two autos seems whole fully inadequate. I’m aware there’s the three shot after 2 seconds, but it’s conditional. And you lose it after the initial shot. I think to make this weapon a bit more impactful, there should be consistently 3/4 shots as base, and 4/5 with the perk buff.
  • the autos themselves are honestly kind of underwhelming. The spread is very high and is useless after 10 meters. The two shots, again, makes it underpowered in an already weak auto. Holding right click doesn’t add much range. I’m trying really hard to be deliberate on the autos, but it doesn’t have the consistent damage of melee, nor the range and impact of ranged shots. It’s just… not good
  • the claw shot is super fun to use, but it’s hit box maybe due to desync doesn’t connect very often even when I check in a VOD that I hit on my screen. Maybe increase the hit box and range just a little bit?
  • I think Azoth Blast is in a good spot and probably its best ability
  • I tried hard to like Split Grenade but the splitting and fuse takes way too long. I don’t run it anymore
  • for the love of god increase the int scaling and fix int conversion gems. Right now the elemental damage side is bugged and thus you dont get the full damage. Same issue as Grav Well and Fireball and Musket’s sticky bomb
  • not entirely sure why this is Thrust damage
  • Net shot feels good, but maybe increase its hit box a bit too

This weapon is super fun and frankly I’m glad it’s not overpowered on launch like Void Gauntlet was.

It just needs a few more tweaks to make it at a good spot!

I’ve played in PVP many times since Blunderbuss was added to the game. His damage is abnormally high. If you have 60+fps and you are good at aiming, you can do 1 shot combo no matter who comes your way. My FPS is not good but I can still kill someone easily

sure has some problems

Sometimes the character freezes a lot while Reloading

sometimes when you use Azoth’s sharapnel blass ability while at the bottom of the enemy, the projectile will randomly go up and do no damage

Using the blast shot ability is very problematic, even if you turn the mouse when you use it, it fires at the point you look at while using it.

After a certain time (10-15min) in OPR, the game starts to freeze a lot (I only saw this problem with this character)

Blunderbuss has absolutely no need for extra Damage if you’re going to buff, don’t add +damage or you’ll totally ruin the game @Community-Team

Blunderbuss played with 300 strength feels very well balanced.
Left tree is pretty good for PvP while the right tree is very easy to play in PvE but still very strong.
Finally they released a weapon not extremely overpowered. Actually well done and i hope all upcoming weapons are goind to be as balanced as the Blunderbuss by release.
I remember chaos when they released the void gauntlet and it needed a lot of nerfs and months to get this weapons balance right.

gonna be honest, the claw shot seems terrible. Was hoping it could be a useful tool for a Tank to pull ranged threats (Mages) into close quarters as a way of proper CCing, but pulling you into them is just stupidity. that alone makes it sort of a troll pick, as launching yourself closer to an enemy that’s most likely in a group is just baffling, especially when there’s far safer options to do this that doesn’t leave you out in the open (Great Axe, anyone?)

  1. There is a bug limiting the damage of INT BB builds. (Elemental gems are not scaling with various skills.)
  2. BB is incredibly strong, but it has a very high skill floor. If you think it’s weak, you’re probably not skilled enough yet.

… weak?
What?
