I noticed how fire staff is an ideal weapon for the Garden of Genesis expedition because it does extra bonus damage against Angry Earth tree type monsters. I’d appreciate it if devs could make more contents just like this. For example,
Spears having better reach and doing bonus damage against large tall monsters.
Muskets and warhammer doing extra bonus damage against heavily armored monsters
Ice gauntlets doing bonus damage against cold blooded reptilian monsters such as alligators, etc.
Life staff doing more damage against undead units maybe?
I already use them and I don’t like them. They simply last too short. But that’s not what this is about. I am simply more interested in this rock scissors paper mechanic.
Every enemy type has multiple weaknesses and multiple resistances already. You can just look on the wiki or google them to find out what they are. I am unsure what the point of this post is.
People already match weapon types with enemy weaknesses. People already use gems to turn half their damage output to an elemental type that matches an enemy type’s weakness. These are just simple game mechanics, easily found on the wiki.
Weapons are overwhelmingly favored over others because they 1) have a really low skill floor and are exceptionally easy to use and you will be successful with them with minimal effort (great axe, life staff), and 2) because they have VERY good skill trees compared to other weapons and give them very high throughput where other weapons dont get the same levels of benefits (rapier, firestaff, greataxe, life staff). I mean, greataxe’s passive traits are so powerful that its abilities are on 20+ second cooldowns and it is still the best melee weapon in the game by a long shot. Turn brain off and left click. And don’t get me started on how brainless life staff play is. I’m not putting down life staff players who are try harding, but at the base level a five year old could play heavy armor life staff in this game and it’s almost impossible to die vs. any enemy.
You can put a gem in any weapon and convert half of your damage type to be strong against the enemy’s weakness, meaning that at the very worst case (your main type is resisted, and your gem type is strong), you are dealing normal 100% damage because the resisted damage is compensated by the strong damage, and at the very best case your entire weapon damage (base or with a gem combo) is strong against the enemy, giving you 140% damage done.
You are right. What I am asking for is for the devs to add more incentives to use unpopular weapons so certain weapons aren’t always preferred over others.
For example, I know that fire staff is the most effective weapon choice for the Garden of Genesis dungeon. But if I am a spear user and I apply coatings and put some ruby in my weapon socket and all that. It would be still more effective to take a fire staff user instead. The expedition is almost encouraging you to use a fire staff. The devs can make other expeditions to work in a similar way But instead of a fire staff, plug in some B or C tier weapons there instead. Make these weapons deal such large bonus damage in these dungeons that it would be a waste not to use those weapons in those dungeons.
