Bots mining nodes

yup. My server only gets about 500 players and they are all over.

Gating nodes behind a cooldown is not a good answer, there are enough time gates in the system already. and putting limits on how much you can gather each day also hurts the player.

Granted BOP materials is also a bad idea, as you can not sell your stuff.

PvP only, thats is a big NO.

Bot detection is a fail, by evidence of the bots running day after day.

I say put an abundance of t5 nodes in the new areas and make it a “pvp zone.” PVE can’t complain because they can still unflag in the old areas.

Yes we can :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The most ridiculous thing is that if a robot is reported, it will only be banned for 7 days

I remember. Not sure why that changed. Definitely should go back to that.

so, your solution is to make it easy for PvP by creating a new environment where bots couldn’t survive and leave PvE unchanged? lol, you’re missing the point; selfish.

The root cause needs to be solved: 1) making the system efficient for ALL players (regardless of flag) and 2) getting rid of bots.

it is sad that bots take so long to get banned and then they can return quickly.

the ban has to be more effective to discourage their use. ban the entire license, not allowing another steam account to re-use the same license.
also, quickly action reports. many people (intentionally or unintentionally) report bots incorrectly, so it can’t be based on the number of reports.
AGS likely needs MODs playing the game (on each server) and validate reported bots.

the biggest impact of bots is to the players that actually want to gather. those that just want to buy mats from TP, like the bots because their prices are lower.

in the end, a balance needs to exist so that the multiple systems can co-exist efficiently (gather/sell/buy).

AGS likely doesn’t see the full impact of bots because the TP has items and they are somewhat well priced. they miss seeing that a human player on a populated server, wastes too much time trying to find a harvestable nodes.

PvP is not the answer; you’re just short-sighted.

Also, making these items BoP would solve the bot issue but it would create another big issue where you cannot buy or trade… This could work if you didn’t need to spend 10’s hours per week gathering the different items on top of playing whatever content you like… if a node would give a large number of resources and the gathering of different items would take an hour or two that would leave enough time to play.
this is why lots of people like the idea of making every node harvestable once per day; you have access to all nodes and that’s plenty. no need to mess with PvP/PvE.
if you have 20 hours a day to play, go play a different part of the game or do another activity; you don’t need to gather a million items in a day

i can spend 8 hours gathering ori to only end up with ~500 ori ore/hour (without competition; normally half or less). this is a waste of my time as i’m left without time to play the game.

Let’s see what AGS does in April for the bots topic. Banning VMware was a short term solution that didn’t last. As long as players pay real money for gold, bots will find a way to exist.

I honestly only read the first two paragraphs. I stand by what I said and I’m not the only one that thinks that and it wouldn’t be an “easy time” for PVP players. You do know what PVP means, right? If you want to go into the new zones then flag up. If you’re scared to go alone, then go with friends, company, group, etc otherwise stay safe in the PVE zones. Bots will always exist in MMO’s and I think this is the only solution to put up a good/cost efficient fight against bots and not to mention those PVE’rs that camp a resource node.

I’m sure you know the frustration of not being able to get a node because there is a PVE’r/bot camping the node/s for hours on end and not being able to do anything about it because they are unflagged.

You are taking a very sever tone on your solution. It won’t fly very far and may destroy the game. I hate bots just as much if not more than the average player. I also report them as I find them and that is daily and repeatedly. The real solution is that AGS needs to hire more people to deal with the issue. Also we need to see that our reports are being actioned upon in a timely fashion. This needs to be a message in game telling us the result of our report.

Also I have seen a new bot that has ‘random’ movements as it travels from node to node. I have started to include this type of information in my reports so that AGS can add that to their algorithms.

On the contrary, I think this solution will go very far with both the players and AGS. You got to remember that even though AGS is a big company (has a lot of money) they want to spend the least amount of money and make as much as possible and I believe that just setting a couple zones to pvp only will be more cost efficient and more effective on bots than hiring quite a few more employees. Why hire a bunch of plp to tackle the bot problem? Let the players take care of that! I rather have AGS hire plp to tackle other problems (like bugs, exploits, etc) than hire plp to tackle just bots. Wouldn’t you agree?

Instanced nodes is the best solution I think

Instanced nodes have problems of their own, and would not address Bots.
it would actually make it better for bots, they would not have to compete with other bots.
TP would be more out of whack than it is currently.

There are a lot of ideas around Bots, and most cause problems for other styles of game play.

If they are instanced you get the ori you want nullifying the bots and gold sellers.

I do not care if the solution is answered via pve or pvp regardless there needs to be a solution. Large populated servers do not have enough opportunities to acquire ori

no I don’t agree so let’s leave it at that.

Bots are inflationary. They are generating gold and NOT spending it on refining, repairs, property taxes, but only trade taxes, with the end result of RMT.

  1. Bot mines ori nodes
  2. Bot sells ori ore (and other raw mats)
  3. Bots sells gold for $
  4. Players spends $ for gold
  5. Player uses gold to buy ori ore
  6. Prices creep higher and higher

No, that just solves your problem, not the problem of bots.
Bots also ruin TP prices. they promote gold sellers, and enable pay to win for crafting.

edit: Bots are not just an “ori” problem.
Bot miners, bot loggers, bot harvesters, bot fishers, bot faction pushers(not seen for a while), and even bots that fight.

2 words for you: Personalized. Nodes.

No reason to force people to flag.

We can either have personalized nodes, to which I totally agree, or, hear me out, get a couple of oris dropped from corrupted elite monsters. Do a run, close corruptions, get the daily doze.
It sucks for mining set, but could be an alternative. Myrkgard is a total waste of space now, and we close corruptions to delay invasions only, they could be something more all together.
