Bow is broken. Fix the Bow now!

@Willard since you’re online now. Can you give us any feedback on this thread matter?

As a bow user myself i pretty much agree with everything you said, honestly I do not think that the bow has any representation with the mod or dev team whatso-ever, or even if ags actually looks at any of these posts

We tagged CMs dozens of times here but not a single one reply by them. I’m hopeless that they give any care to this matter.

I just do not get how they immediately listen to everyone who compains that the bow is too good without realizing that all of them are recieving the bow attack now acutally using it nor realizing how hard it is to actually use well. Yet now when the weapon is at its lowest there is no communication in site.

For example the jump canceling. The patch after it was found, gone. Now nothing from them.

game went from 900k to less than 30k players in a few months. its a shame they can’t make better decisions they would be making so much money at this point.

95% fall off of player base is not a normal outcome lol

Jump cancel was implemented on PTR and went live less than a week later. They didn’t even gave us enough time to test it before implementing. They didn’t thought about the consequences of it for the weapon.

Hey there, fellow bow sufferer, good luck waiting for the devs answer, I’m also on that train without success for some days now:

I’ll post here my own analysis on the mater, with some hate touchs for this past months treatment of the weapon included, so all these posts related to bow are linked somehow. This would make possible that, in the improbable event some CM or similar gave any kind of attention to this matter (I don’t think so) he/she could find all of the feedback and player’s “friction”, as they like to call it, together.

It’s easy to see we concur on everything in our posts, so we can get to the conclusion that:

  1. Indeed anyone with minimal common sense can see the problems and the solutions, easily.
  2. Devs are not among those people.
  3. Anyone who claims stuff in the lines of “Bow is OP QQ moar”, “It’s your problem not the weapon”, “ZOMG I got hit for 15k shot!!!”, etc. are effectively trolls or don’t play the game at all.
  4. AGS doesn’t plan on making this weapon viable, they just all play GA/WH and soon GA/BB which they conveniently developed to help more their already close-combat overpowered STR weapons (hello new gravity well), and will soon release full of one-shot mechanics just to have fun themselves.

P.S.: already buying some FS equipment to have a good time, just for a change.

I bumped your thread my friend, perfectly on-point observations you made there.

Nerf after nerf I was somehow able to become even better on Wars/OPR by overcoming the updates and training even more to master the weapon. As I said before, killing a lot of people on outpost isn’t any problem to me. But I spent hundreds of thousands of gold on the shop + crafting and also grinding dungeons/mutations to have my 7 out 10 BIS parts in my set, on top of hundreds of hours playing PvP (between Wars, Duels, any kind of open world PvP and OPR).
It’s not a surprise that I top the board very often on OPR, as any DPS with similar trajectory as me should top (in fact, If I did the same thing but as melee or IG/VG I would be able to have even more kills and damage than what I got now).

But think about new players. Think about the freshly new level 60 that doesn’t have any money, is using bad perks 500GS pieces (or even 520GS faction gear) and he tries outpost for the first time playing with the Bow.

This guy is going to be obliterated every match. He’s not going to do any decent damage, he’s going to be killed very often and if he’s just like me (that only likes to play ranged on any MMO), he’s giving up the game.
It’s bullshit. It’s so hard to become a good archer now that I’m seeing less and less of us and more and more of the mages.

It sucks. AGS doesn’t have any critical sense while nerfing the weapons. And tagging CMs here doesn’t have any effect either

I have touched on bow and its unstable state many times starting 3 months ago (ish). bow is the most unstable weapon (in the sense of power), being extremely weak early to mid game, and extremely strong late game to end game.

A lot of the skirmish talents are also seriously repetitive, they do not stack, and are in general not practical.

when we look at these issues bow has, we also come over the issue that it is infact very overtuned against light, and very undertuned against heavy.

The damage output and what it means
bow is highly unstable because of the nature of the talents inside of its talent tree. to fix the weapons stability we need to look at doing things like removing the 20% damage bonus’s and buffing base damage of the weapon itself paired with some reworks to the armor system. This should also be paired with changes to the skirmish tree and removal of scatter and shifting rain of arrows to marksmen tree, and creating a new skirmish ability for bow to help it maintain that identity.

So the end result is the following
bow changes

  • Remove various 20% damage based on condition talents
  • replace the above talents with things like 20% faster arrow speed or 20% faster heavy charge speed.
  • create a new dynamic set of interactions for bow.
  • create a new ability that helps with skirmishing or mid range arrow gameplay.
  • set this new ability to do something that will help bow gameplay and be interactive, for example, your next 2 heavy attacks are instantly charged.
  • rework the ultimate talent for skirmish and all the minor talents that do things like slow, they all do the same thing but in ways which are not practical.

Armor changes

  • light armor values should be around 1250 (up from 750)
  • medium armor values should be around 1350
  • heavy armor values should be around 1550 (down from 2100)

I have 1500+ Hours of bow PVP clocked. I recently gave it up for every single reason the OP mentioned.

The issue is that AGS uses a silly metric like “war damage” as a metric for balance. In truth, the only bowman that rank high in war damage pose actually little impact to the game. They don’t even try to engage in fights, it’s a literal game of running away just gain more uninterrupted time to spam poison shot and RoA into balls of enemies. Damage registered… but easily healed away.

A complete stat pad and useless. Bow’s best opportunity for team cohesion is a RoA + Pen shot combo on CC’d targets, but given recent buffs to other weapons, that damage is less then a Pillar of Fire + Fireball combo.

Shit, even nerfed icespike has a better single target lock down threat.

I play with a bow from the beginning for almost 1000 hours. Currently, I don’t even want to go to OPR to enjoy the bow, rather suffering. I fully agree with the above issues. I hope it adjusts soon. Good LUCK with the “bow”.

Bow is only for hunting animals to skin now. Useless in actual gameplay.

With all due respect, @Willard, this is something you said you did earlier (like a month and a half ago) with the concussion ultimate nerf to bows, which I contributed plenty of suggestions to. Absolutely nothing of import happened, and in fact the changes were rolled out as is with ZERO feedback received from the community, and no response to questions as to the reasoning behind the brutal nerfing. As players, we have literally no recourse on this because the two cowards in charge of combat and weapon balancing refuse to face the music.

What on earth makes you think simply handing off a list of threads is going to do anything now, when it didn’t result in a thing happening the last several times you did it?

@Willard Well I appreciate the fact that you still take the time to respond, even though as you’ve alluded to, your hands are tied in terms of ‘process’ as well. A fellow bow user as well amongst the CMs, how about that!

I can only hope there is a real, determined effort to engage us bow users specifically, and the player base on the whole generally, as it’s clear the opaque way of making changes doesn’t sit well with a very significant portion of the players. As you can well see, and likely experienced yourself on some level as a bow player, the complete nerfing of the bow has reduced it to near ineffectual status for both PvE and PvP.

Anyways, thanks again for at least doing what you can to ferry over the sentiments of us disgruntled archers. It absolutely sucks to wait on engagement and feedback response that doesn’t at all seem likely to happen.

1500 hours main bow player… slow arrows, no hitbox registrations, .33 root after shooting, slow charging heavy attacks… this a creates a useless bow build, top damage doesnt affect in war, theres no such thing as hitting 4k+ on bow, if ppl say this, it is a lie, everyone runs resilient, onyx, and perks to mitigate that dmg, you usually hit 800-1000 on heavy armored players… theres bugs when you are hit with gravity or ice storm your character is in an animation glitch that you cannot do anything, not even swap weapons. the bow is useless in all content… the skill tree need a huge rework, remove splinter shot and replace with a complete different usefull abilitiy, remove knee shot, no one his going to aim for the knee when u can aim for the head… this class should dominate in mid range single target or rather actually do dmg and make a difference and not be a fly in someones ear. the fact that people say, bow is range and we have an advantage, a melee player just has to press shift everytime a bow player ads… and u miss. they can catche you regardless of the range bcus of bloodlust and reap and charge. but what bow player is going to be 200m away to hit what arrow?
bows only hit arrows close range. rework the hitbox, the arrow speed, and the .33 sec root after shooting and then maybe it will be more competetive, right now its a meme.

You make very good points and the bow needs to be addressed. The bow is one of the most fun abilities to play and there are some excellent points on this thread that could be taken advantage of. AGS is losing a huge portion of the player base by only focusing on large scale pvp and melee

Thank you for your attention, @Willard, I know you mean well. Nice to see at least one of you guys understand our problem with the Bow, since it’s your main weapon.
Well, our job and apparently yours was done here. Let’s hope they hear the detailed feedback we gave and some things change, as earlier as possible.
